Fake Survivor 64

Chapter 64

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I, ‘Mose’, left the apartment complex and headed towards the ‘Silver Orchid Inn’ where Iris was staying.

There’s a female staff member there who tries to stop me from getting close to Iris, and for some reason, she uses her body in the process.

As a result, she has done what needed to be done, and I couldn’t stop her. But I wonder if she’ll try to stop me again if we meet next time.

She’s got a nice face and body, but it could be troublesome if she has some hidden agenda.

I’ve had my fair share of female company last night and this morning, so I’ll give it a pass this time.

So, as I transformed into ‘Mose’, I also turned invisible and floated my way to the destination.

I chose to float to avoid being noticed and accidentally bumped into by others.

Upon arriving at the ‘Silver Orchid Inn’, there were fewer customers than usual, probably because it was a bit late for the morning.

Since I was invisible, I had to be careful not to be noticed by the opening and closing of doors. I managed to enter the inn by timing it with a customer leaving.

To avoid any contact with customers or staff, I floated near the ceiling and made my way to Iris’s room.

I haven’t told Iris about my invisibility yet, so I can’t just enter through the window.

The female staff member who always bothers me was busy with serving and didn’t notice me.

I went upstairs, glancing at her, and then stood in front of Iris’s room, deactivating my invisibility while being cautious of onlookers.

 *Knock knock.*

 ”Yes, who is it?”

 ”It’s Mose.”

”Oh, I’ll open the door now.”

Iris opened the door immediately and welcomed me into her room.

”So, what’s the plan for today?”

Iris guided me to sit on the bed beside her and asked about the schedule for the day, snuggling close.

I’m used to this, so I didn’t mind.

First, let’s talk about my voice.

”Actually, with ‘Magic Mending’, I can now change my voice. ‘Ah, ah, how’s this?’”

I spoke in the deep voice of an old man that I tried yesterday, and Iris was both surprised and impressed.

”Wow… Well, if you can make armor and even change its color, it’s not surprising that you can do this. Can you change into another person’s voice?”

”I can, but… it’s not like I’m changing into someone else’s voice. I’m just modifying my voice by channeling it through the specially structured armor. I can’t change it freely.”

 ”Oh, I see.”

In reality, I can change it freely, but if I tell her that, she might mistake someone else who is impersonating me for ‘me with a changed voice’.

If she wears the scarf I made, it’ll be easier to find her, but it would be a hassle if she gets kidnapped or something.

So, I want her to understand that this is just an application of my ability to manipulate magic threads.

I explained that from now on, I’ll speak with this voice outside, pretending that ‘Mose’s’ throat is healed, and that was the end of that conversation for now.

Next, I proposed my thoughts on future dungeon activities.

”Today, or rather, I’m thinking about the future… I want Iris and Seria to stay in the 4th District.”

”Stay in the 4th District? Well, if we’re going deeper into the dungeon, we’ll be staying for a longer period anyway… But you’re specifically mentioning it, so are you planning for an even longer period?”

”Well, it’s not like it’s going to be a long time. The 3rd District has dangerous magic wolves and higher-level monsters that spread lightning around, so going back and forth is quite risky and troublesome. That’s why I thought it would be better to reduce the chances of taking the two of you with me between the city and the 4th District.”

It’s possible to protect the two with my Magic Armor, but… if we frequently go back and forth between the city and the 4th District, it might attract the attention of big companies. Besides, there’s the issue with Ferris.

She was able to sense me covered in magic, so I should consider that if I put the two in Magic Armor, she might sense it too.

If that happens, there’s a chance she might suspect the relationship between “Koji” and “Mose,” and she might even deduce that the magic covering me when I turned invisible is the same as “Mose’s” Magic Armor.

I plan to argue that if everyone wrapped in magic is the same person, then all magicians must be the same person, right? But…

If that doesn’t work, she might conclude that invisibility is also my ability, and the magic item for invisibility could be revealed as a fake.

Of course, that would lead to the question of what that thing that disappeared right in front of her was. If I can create armor with magic, then could that timer also be… ? There’s a good chance she might think of that.

If it comes to that, Ferris might think I lied to mess with her body, and she could suspect that I’m trying to use the fact that I can’t turn invisible anymore to make her do something inappropriate as a form of compensation.

Well, since it was Ferris who asked to use the magic item that makes her invisible, I want her to believe that there’s not too much suspicion about it…

For now, I tell Iris that the 3rd District is dangerous, so I want her to stay in the 4th District, and she easily agrees.

”I see. Well, I don’t mind. It might be a bit inconvenient, but getting what we need is the top priority.”

”I see. Then, let’s ask Seria, and if she has no problems, we can leave as soon as we’re ready.”

At what I said, Iris looks puzzled.

”Huh? You’re going to ask Seria too?”

 ”Is that strange?”

”Well, that girl is under a contract to follow your orders, right?”

”That’s true, but there’s no need to force her to come along. I can just receive the magic catalyst from her when I return to the city and hunt in a lower district for a day.”

If I’m going to have her stay in the 4th District, having 2 people is better for security than just one.

Even if Seria is not very strong, she should still have some deterrent effect as a Cleric.

The last group that attacked us was concerned about that too.

However, if the person sent is someone who has just come to the city, it’s a problem whether a long-term assignment will be approved.

The contract with Seria is basically a secret, so that would make us just a regular assignment.

Since the evaluation as an assignment is still unknown, they probably won’t trust us, and the church might hesitate to approve a long-term assignment.

 I convey this to Iris.

”I see, even if the person is good, the church might still refuse. If that’s the case… does that mean the plan for Iris to stay in the 4th District is off?”

”I don’t know. I heard that ‘Silver Orchid’ has a company just for women, but they even stop men from getting close… If Iris goes there alone and they accept her, it would be fine for her to stay there.”

 Iris reacts to that statement.

 ”‘Silver Orchid’? Hmm…”

 ”What’s wrong?”

”No, it’s just that company is where I was rejected for joining. But they did introduce me to this inn that has their backing, so maybe they would accept me after all.”

”Oh, really? Then the name of the inn, ‘Silver Orchid Inn’…”

”They probably named it that to make it clear that it’s connected to the ‘Silver Orchid’ company. Thanks to that, it seems like the female staff don’t get complaints about selling their bodies.”

 ”Ah, I see…”

 Huh?

She was rejected from joining, but she was introduced to this inn, and there was a woman who tried to stop anyone from making a move on Iris, even using her body to do so.

Iris had been hiding the fact that she could use magic, so it’s possible that the woman was just being kind by introducing a new female adventurer to the inn.

However, if I assume that the woman was acting on ‘Silver Orchid’s’ orders… then ‘Silver Orchid’ is paying some attention to Iris.

The reason for that is still unclear, but if that’s the case, there might be a chance for her to be accepted at the base in the 4th District.

Thinking that, I made a suggestion to Iris.

”If they introduced you here, they might be flexible with the base in the 4th District. But if you just show up out of the blue, they probably won’t accept you, so Iris, why not ask when you go to apply for membership?”

”Ah, that sounds good. Then shall we go now?”

 ”Yeah, let’s do that.”

I wasn’t planning to join them, and while I was thinking about telling Seria about this, Iris looked surprised and asked me.

 ”Huh? You’re not coming?”

 ”Huh? Am I going too?”

”Well, that’s… only if they accept me, but as Mose, we should act together, right?”

 ”Yeah, I guess so.”

”If someone from ‘Silver Orchid’ sees us, they might think I’m being followed by a suspicious person, so I think it’s better to let them know from the start that I have a companion.”

”I get that, but wouldn’t we just say we use the ‘Golden Lion’ base instead?”

”Well, you know… I’m worried about my safety, so I could say I want to go to a safer base.”

”That makes sense, but then they might say not to bring me into the dungeon.”

”They know I have something I’m targeting in the dungeon from when I applied for membership, so they won’t think I’m dragging you in.”

”Ah, right, and that’s why they said something convenient about the treatment and turned you down.”

”Ugh… well, in the end, I got your help, so it turned out well. So, what do you think?”

 ”Hmm…”

 Iris was right.

I might be treated as a suspicious person while accompanying everyone in the dungeon, even if I’m accepted.

If Ferris happens to show up, it could get troublesome.

Getting attacked by her incredible strength would deal a lot of magical damage, so I want to avoid a fight as much as possible.

”I got it, I’ll go too. I’ll go out through the window and wait outside.”

 ”Huh, through the window?”

 ”Yeah, that’s…”

I explained to Iris that I came to this room without being seen by that female staff member.

Hearing that, she made a subtle face and said, “Oh…”

”That person seems to think you’re forcing me to do something inappropriate. When she came yesterday morning, she noticed the smell in the room and checked if it was forced or not.”

”I knew it… I’m glad I came back quickly. Should I go to the ‘Silver Orchid’ office and say I’m your formal companion? That might make things better.”

”But if the information gets to ‘Silver Orchid,’ they might stop suspecting you, right? Then, I’ll get ready to go…”

Saying that, Iris stood up from the bed and tried to put on her armor as a precaution.

 ”Wait a second.”

She came closer and smoothly lifted the visor of my helmet.

 ”Mm…”

 *Kiss.*

Since I had no particular reason to refuse, I accepted it, and when she pulled away, she smiled and said to me,

”Yeah, it seems like you should be more proactive from now on.”

Did she notice about Ms. Monoka being held by me?

I didn’t really mind if she found out… but I did try to hide the smell, so I’m surprised she noticed.

For now, I don’t want to make her unnecessarily anxious about our cooperation, so I’ll mention it.

”I have no intention of breaking our promise.”

”I know that. But your priorities might change… so I’ll just have to try harder from now on~♡.”

Saying that, Iris winked at me, and I replied as I looked out the window.

”…Try to hold back in public.”
