I, Rumi, and Nana left the village with tents, food, Rumi’s cooking pot and dishes, and Magic Power recovery potions, just like during the stampede battle.
We set up the tent near a river, a little away from the town road to Somirkas, and covered it with Earth Magic to hide it.
”Alright, we’re all set! …Nana, can you use flying magic now?”
I asked Nana.
Nana tilted her head a bit and looked down sadly.
”Not yet… So this time, I’ll fight behind Ms. Rumi!”
”Rumi, that means you need to protect Nana.”
”Got it! Rob, are you still going to fight in the air?”
”Since the enemy can fly, yeah, I will. I’ll focus on taking out the ones up high first. Also, I’ll connect ‘Thought Sharing’ with Rumi, so let me know right away if anything happens.”
”Understood! Ugh… it seems like this will be a tough fight.”
Rumi looked a bit worried.
”Oh, right, I’ll give Rumi a shield. This time, focus on protecting Nana rather than attacking.”
I said that and took out the shield I borrowed from my mom, handing it to Rumi.
Rumi’s eyes sparkled as she looked at the heavy shield.

One of the shields owned by former S-rank adventurer Emma Cartwood.
The shield has high magic resistance, and it boosts the owner’s magic resistance and status resistance abilities.
It’s made of orichalcum.
The current owner is Rumi.
”Yeah! Thanks, Rob! Leave Nanna’s protection to me!”
Rumi smiled confidently.
”Brother Rob, can you teach me how to use this?”
Nana held up the [Magic Condenser Device (Immortal Seven)] next to her face, asking me with an excited voice.
”Oh, right! Let’s try shooting it up into the sky.”
I said that and stood behind Nana, placing my left hand on her shoulder and guiding her right hand holding the [Magic Condenser Device (Immortal Seven)] to aim it at the sky.
”It’s easy to use. Just charge this Magic Tool with attribute Magic Power and pull the trigger. …The limit for the Magic Power you can charge is probably around a thousand, which is more than advanced magic.”
”Have you tried charging it to the limit yet?”
”Yeah, I was too scared to do it in case it broke.”
”I see… I’ll be careful when I use it too.”
Nana nodded slightly, looking serious.
”Okay, let’s charge it with Magic Power and shoot. …The enemy this time is weak to light, so charge it with light attribute.”
”Yes~♪ Here I go… bang!”
Saying that, Nana instantly charged the light attribute Magic Power into the [Magic Condenser Device (Immortal Seven)] and pulled the trigger.
In that moment, a powerful sound echoed.
──Boom!
”Wow, amazing! This is so much fun!”
Nana’s eyes sparkled, and a big smile appeared on her face.
”Right? I knew you would enjoy it, Nana! …Alright, since we’re ready, let’s head back to Grove Village!”
”Oh!” “Yes!”

By the time we returned to Grove Village, Mom Emma’s barrier was already covering the entire village.
’Magic Detection’ activated.
…I could tell that a lot of monsters were flying in from a nearby area.
”Alright, they’ll be here soon. They might look a bit creepy, but don’t be scared and fight!”
I encouraged the two of them.
”If they’re not cute, it’s fine!”
”I agree with Ms. Rumi!”
Rumi and Nana nodded confidently.
”Then I feel better. Just don’t push yourselves and be careful not to get hurt.”
I jumped into the air using wind magic.
As a strong wind blew past me, I slapped my cheeks to get focused and glared at the eye monster “Kalarisk” that I could finally see ahead.
…There were still a few, but they were close enough for my attacks to reach, so I gathered my Magic Power in my palm.
”Hmm, Second Rank should be fine… ‘Shining Arrow’!”
──Whoosh──Thud!
Hit! …Yeah, this should be enough to take them down.
I created arrows of light in both hands, shooting them one after another, slowly reducing their numbers.
It seemed Nana also started attacking with her [Magic Condenser Device].
Nana had a mix of excitement and tension on her face.
…However, a swarm was rushing in that we couldn’t keep up with, so I switched to area attack magic.
(Rumi, move a bit forward and unleash a big one!)
(Okay! Be careful!)
I moved to a slightly higher position than the enemy swarm and began to unleash area magic continuously.
”Sixth Rank ‘Luminace Burst’!”
──Boom!! ──Boom!! ──Boom!!
No matter how many times we shoot, the eye monsters keep coming endlessly.
Their magic is weak, and it feels like they hardly do any damage even without Magic Power.
We fought until around noon and finally decided to take a break.

We hurried to make some food near the tent.
We started a fire, and as we grilled the meat until it was browned, a delicious smell filled the air.
Since we were short on time, we put the grilled meat and fresh vegetables between slices of bread and all took a big bite.
”Rumi, Nana, are you both okay? Did you get hurt?”
I asked, concerned about the two of them.
Rumi looked a bit worried and chewed her meat carefully.
”Yeah, I’m fine… But it was a bit scary because they keep coming back faster than we can take them down.”
she said anxiously.
Her words showed that the fear of battle still lingered.
Seeing Rumi scared like this was rare, and it hurt my heart.
”…Ms. Rumi was protecting me, so I wasn’t scared at all! Shooting this magic tool was fun too!”
Nana replied cheerfully, her eyes sparkling.
Her innocent smile lifted our spirits.
It was tough knowing that we could fight all day without running out of monsters, but I had known that from the start.
I tried to act bright to ease everyone’s tension so they could rest.
”After a short break, we’ll go again. Next, you two should attack from the outside of the group. It seems like that group is focused on my mom, who is setting up the barrier, so I don’t think they’ll come too close to us.”
I was making a plan while watching Rumi and Nana’s reactions.
”I got it! …If they don’t come closer, maybe I can attack too.”
Rumi said, looking a bit anxious, but I could see her gaining confidence.
”What will Brother Rob do?”
Nana asked, looking at me with hopeful eyes.
In response, I nodded.
”I’ll do the same as before. I’ll fly around and use area magic to chip away at them.”
”Rob, don’t push yourself too hard, okay?”
”Yeah, if things get bad, I’ll run away!”
After finishing our meal and deciding on our next plan, we decided to head back to Grove Village.
On the way back, the surroundings started to feel tense.
If I listened closely, I could hear the sounds of enemies moving in the distance.
We moved forward with serious expressions, preparing for battle.

When we returned to Grove Village, what we saw was a swarm of Kalarisk tightly stuck to the barrier.
The translucent barrier, which should have been shining in rainbow colors, was now completely black, as if its brilliance had vanished.
”Ugh… this is bad… Huh? …There’s a demon race over there…”
For a moment, I felt a rush of tension, but I quickly regained my calm and gave instructions to Rumi and Nana.
”You two take care of the Kalarisk swarm, and I’ll go take down that demon race!”
”Okay, got it!”
”Brother, please be careful!”
With Rumi and Nana’s replies behind me, I used wind magic to soar into the air and charged at the demon race.
However, before I could get close to the demon race, it noticed my presence and shot dark magic at me.
I quickly wrapped my [Dawn Sword] in Magic Power and slashed through the dark wave.
Closing the distance, I swung my sword down to try and split the demon race in half, but it reacted instantly and blocked me with its pitch-black spear.
*Clang!*
The sound of metal echoed, and sparks flew.
I tried to push harder with my sword, but it seemed stronger and knocked me back instead.
*Thud!*
I fell to the ground, hitting it hard, and pain shot through my body.
”Damn…”
Even though I was scared of this tougher opponent, I glared at the demon race and stood up again.
The demon race in front of me had a terrifying presence.
It had small horns sticking out of its head, and its eyes were blood-red.
Its purple skin looked like that of a grim reaper, and large black wings spread out from its back.
It wore tight black leather that showed off its agility and strength.
Its Magic Power was lower than mine but higher than Rumi’s, and its physical abilities were clearly better than mine.
”Hey, did you set up this barrier?”
The demon race asked me with a cold look.
”…I don’t know.”
”I see, then die.”
The demon race said this coldly, then instantly readied its spear and charged at me.
I wrapped my whole body in Magic Power and fighting spirit, activating Space-Time magic ‘Time Slow’ to slow down the demon race’s movements.
I skillfully dodged the thrust of the spear and aimed to cut off its arm, but it was blocked again.
*Clang! Clang! Clang!*
The sound of metal echoed repeatedly, and all my sword strikes were blocked by the demon race’s defenses.
The demon race and I engaged in a fierce exchange of weapons for a while.
In the intense back-and-forth, our skills and strength clashed, creating sparks.
But then, at that moment, with a sharp sound, the wings on the demon race’s back were shot through.
*Boom!*
”Ugh…”
The demon race let out a groan of pain and momentarily stopped moving.
It seemed Nana provided cover fire.
Taking advantage of that opening, I used ‘Step Warp’ to instantly get behind the demon race and swung my sword with all my might, aiming for its neck.
*Slash!*
A brilliant flash was released, and the demon race’s head flew into the air.
Right after that, the movements of the Kalarisk swarm that had been stuck to the barrier began to go wild.
…It seemed that the demon race I just defeated was leading that swarm.
After that, we took a short break and continued fighting until night fell.
Fatigue was building up, but the fact that everyone was safe was a relief.
* * *
The next day, after finishing breakfast, we returned to Grove Village and resumed the hunt for the Kalarisk swarm.
The battle felt endless, but we fought persistently, and finally, by late afternoon, we managed to wipe out the Kalarisk swarm around the village.
”Ah… finally done. You both worked hard,”
I said in a tired voice while activating ‘Magic Detection’ to confirm there were no remaining enemies nearby.
In my words of encouragement, there was a strong sense of accomplishment and relief.
”Ugh… I’m so exhausted…”
Rumi was completely exhausted and looked like she might collapse at any moment.
Her face clearly showed her fatigue.
”Brother Rob, Ms. Rumi, great job!”
Nana also looked tired, but she seemed to enjoy the battle and had a satisfied expression on her face.
And so, our long fight against the Kalarisk swarm came to an end.
