Volume 1 Chapter 36 The Royal Capital’s Martial Tournament – Part II
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Northeast Area of the Royal Capital Lorensia (Soldiers and Adventurers Area).
In the morning, after finishing breakfast at the inn, we finally arrived to register for the Martial Tournament.
The cold morning air made the excitement for the tournament even stronger.
”Welcome to the 98th Royal Capital Lorensia Martial Tournament. Please show your Adventurer’s Certificate and fill out this form.”
The receptionist, a pretty girl with a serious expression, guided us.
”Here you go… Is this okay?”
Dad Izana quickly filled out the form and handed it back to the receptionist.
”Wow, S-Class! …Oh, aren’t you the winner from last time!? …Excuse me, can I shake your hand?”
Her eyes sparkled as she spoke with excitement.
”Huh? …Uh, sure.”
Dad looked a bit surprised but happily agreed to shake her hand.
Wow, Dad is really popular.
…But Mom had a frown on her face, giving off a slightly scary vibe.
”Sir Izana will be participating from the main event. The match schedule will be announced at noon today, so please take your time until then.”
The receptionist said this while blushing and trying hard to impress.
”Thank you. Well then, we’ll be on our way.”
As Dad smiled and walked away,
”Y-Yes! I’m cheering for you! Good luck!”
The receptionist shyly waved goodbye, her cheeks getting even redder.
Yeah, Mom’s face is getting more and more serious… this is kind of funny.
”Alright, we’ve finished the registration, so we have free time until noon. What does everyone want to do? We can watch the preliminaries here or go shopping in the commercial district.”
When Dad said this, everyone’s opinions started flying around.
”…I don’t want to move around too much, so let’s watch the preliminaries here.”
Mom was the first to decide.
”I want to watch the preliminaries here too!”
”Me too, just like my brother!”
”Um, is it okay if I stay with Rob?”
I, Nana, and Rumi followed Mom’s lead.
”O-Okay… then, the opening ceremony is starting soon, so let’s go watch it.”
Dad smiled and led everyone.
Following Dad’s guidance, we were able to get seats with a great view.
In front of us was the circular arena where the main event of the Martial Tournament would take place.
In the center was the fighting stage, surrounded by a grassy area.
Beyond that, there were spectator seats that overlooked the stage from above.
Some of the spectator seats were VIP seats, and it seemed the queen would be watching from there.
”Dear citizens, and esteemed nobles gathered here, good day. I am Princess Elena Altia Farnor, the second princess of Altia. First of all, I would like to express my deep gratitude for this opportunity. It is a great honor and joy to participate as the host of this traditional Martial Tournament!”
The princess’s dignified voice echoed throughout the venue.
”This tournament is a special day to witness the battles of those who represent courage and pride. The winner, of course, but also the passion and effort of all participants support our nation and shape our future.”
Her words resonated strongly in our hearts.
”Alright, everyone, let’s make this Martial Tournament exciting and reaffirm our strength and bonds! And I hope that those aiming to be the strongest one can show their true power in this sacred place and win glory under the guidance of Goddess Vanessa!”
The princess’s strong words instantly raised the excitement for the upcoming battles.
”Now, we will begin the 98th Martial Tournament in the royal capital of Lorensia!!”
The moment the princess declared this, the curtain of the Martial Tournament was lifted.
The preliminary rounds of the Martial Tournament would be completed in the morning using many training grounds.
We decided to watch the preliminaries at the arena where the main event would take place.
It seemed that battles would unfold here among those skilled with swords.
I had only seen my dad, Alice, and Mr. Leon’s sword (Alice’s dad) techniques, but I thought the upcoming battles would be very educational.
(…So fast)
In that moment, my heart was filled with surprise.
Only adventurers of B rank and above were participating, and everyone’s movements were truly ultimate.
Their flowing swordplay decorated the arena as if they were dancing.
I felt proud of the fact that my dad had won among these people.
Seeing my dad’s back made the path ahead shine so brightly that I also wanted to aim for the path of the strongest one.

The swords used in the tournament were made of steel with dulled blades.
This special sword was designed to ensure safety during the battles between participants.
Participants wore a wristband called a ‘Barrier Bracelet.’
This bracelet has a protective effect on the wearer, preventing injuries until its durability is exceeded.
When the durability is completely used up, the bracelet breaks, and that’s when the referee stops the match.
This creates a safe environment for fighting.
Victory Conditions in the Match
1. Destroy the opponent’s bracelet.
2. The opponent surrenders.
3. The opponent falls out of the ring.
4. The opponent’s weapon breaks.
With multiple victory conditions like this, the ways to fight expand, and the players start thinking about their strategies.
The preliminaries ended without any problems, and now it was finally time for lunch.
We checked the main event matchups earlier, and it looks like Dad’s turn is last, so I’m a bit nervous.
The cafeteria set up in the arena was lively.
Colorful food stalls lined up, filling the air with delicious smells.
There were all kinds of foods like grilled meat, sweets, fruits, and cold drinks, making my mouth water just by looking at them.
Many people were happily chatting while munching on their food, and I could feel that everyone was looking forward to the main event.
”R-Rob, look! That grilled corn looks so good!”
Rumi said, her eyes sparkling as she pulled my arm and stopped in front of a stall.
”Big brother! I want that fruit tart! It looks so cute, and I want to try it!”
Nana also excitedly pulled my arm, trying to take me to another shop.
”…You two, calm down.”
Feeling a bit confused, I pulled them along and moved toward Mom and Dad.
”Now, what should we eat?”
Dad asked everyone with a happy smile.
”Since Izana is the star today, you can have whatever you want,” Mom said with a warm smile.
”Yeah, but if I leave it to Dad, I have a feeling he’ll choose curry again…” I added.
”Ugh… I-I’m okay with whatever Papa wants to eat too,” Nana said, sounding a bit reluctant.
”Ah, it’s fine with whatever Mr. Izana wants to eat!” Rumi added.
”Hmm… Alright, let’s go with katsudon. There’s a place near this arena that serves a huge katsudon,” Dad said confidently.
We entered the katsudon specialty shop, “Hot Katsudon Factory,” guided by Dad.
When the fragrant katsudon was brought to our table, it felt like a dream.
The crispy coating, the juicy meat, and the moment the special sauce coated everything made our hearts feel full, as if we were wrapped in happiness.
”Delicious!”
The words slipped out of my mouth, and everyone nodded with smiles, enjoying lunch in a warm atmosphere.

The first match of the 32 remaining contestants ended smoothly, and finally, it was Dad’s turn.
We sat nervously in the stands, 4 of us lined up, cheering for Dad.
”Go, Dad! Wipe the floor with your opponent!”
I cheered with all my might.
”W- wipe the floor…?”
Nana said, her eyes wide with curiosity.
The innocent reaction of my little sister was cute.
”Nana, it means to really beat them up… Rob, calm down a bit.”
Mom gently explained to Nana.
And I got scolded.
”Do your best!”
Rumi shouted energetically, following my cheer.
Dad noticed us and waved back.
His face was full of confidence, raising our expectations even more.
Amid the loud cheers, Dad and his opponent stood at the starting line of the battle stage.
As the audience held their breath, the commentary began.
”Thank you for waiting, everyone! Now, let me introduce the player who will headline the final match of Block A! The winner of the last tournament, ‘Sword Saint’ Izana Cartwood! With his charming looks and overwhelming skills, we can expect cheers from beautiful women in this tournament!”
”Aaaaaaa! I-ZA-NAAAA!”
At that moment, I suddenly heard loud cheers from Dad’s fans.
Mom’s eyes widened, and a vein popped on her temple.
We felt cold sweat running down our backs.
”Facing him is the highly regarded A-rank adventurer, ‘Shadow Blade’ Sylvan! Known for his incredibly fast movements that are hard to follow, he also has a tricky skill that lets him shoot blades from the shadows! He always covers his nose and mouth with a mask, so we can’t see his full face, but his eyes are sharp, giving off a strong vibe!”
The energetic commentary echoed throughout the venue, raising the excitement and tension as Dad’s first match was about to begin.
