Chapter 25 The Worries of a Guild Receptionist (POV Miyori)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Ugh… It was busy in the morning──wait, it’s almost noon already…”
This is the Adventurer’s Guild branch in Razia Village. The morning rush at the reception has finally calmed down, and I can finally sit down in the chair at the counter.
My name is Miyori. I’m 16 years old and from Razia Village. I’ve only been a guild receptionist for a month.
Recently, thanks to the lord’s energetic activities, the village has become lively. This has affected the guild too, and more young adventurers have been coming in.
The guild master and his wife couldn’t handle it all, so I was hired as the guild receptionist here.
However, just half a month after I started learning the job, the guild suddenly got super busy.
During the ‘Dragon God Festival,’ there was a ‘Dungeon Burst.’ Because of this, the monster situation around the ‘Goblin Forest,’ which is centered around the dungeon, changed dramatically.
We were super busy dealing with this and reporting to the guild headquarters in the royal capital.
According to the adventurers, the outskirts of the forest haven’t changed much, but the area around the dungeon in the forest is now home to high-level monsters.
”I heard there were a few ogres among the monsters that attacked the village?”
Recently, the adventurer ‘Garm’ often talks to me over the counter.
”An ogre… that’s a monster around adventurer rank C, right? So what about you? You’re not the only adventurer just hanging around here before noon.”
I quench my dry throat from the busy morning with some ‘honey lemon’ I’ve been into lately.
”My Big Bro and Liz went out to investigate the dungeon area. It’s a request directly from the lord, and they’re forming a temporary party mainly with adventurers ranked B.”
”Oh, you just leveled up to E, right? Mr. Ares moved up to C, and Ms. Liz to D, I think?”
”Yeah. With my rank, they won’t take me along.”
He sounds playful, but there’s a hint of regret.
”Well, there’s nothing to do but work hard for that. I heard you were practicing early in the morning for about a month, Mr. Gram?”
Around the time I started working at the guild, the guild master praised Ares’s party for their hard training.
”Yeah, I thought I improved a bit, but I still couldn’t beat Hiroya…”
He lets out a deep sigh.
”Well, I hear he’s really amazing. The guild master said, ‘The lord’s second son, he’s going to be a sword saint in the future.’ Is he really that great? I heard he’s only 8 years old.”
Imitating the guild master’s raspy voice makes Garm, who was feeling down, smile a little.
”Yeah, he’s incredible. His sword skills… or should I say tachi skills since he uses a sword. The accuracy and speed are something that beginner adventurers can’t match. Even with ‘Physical Boost,’ the moment I thought I could grab his Bokken sword, he closed the distance and hit me in the torso in an instant.”
”Hmm.”
I’ve seen him here a few times. He gives off a slightly mature vibe.
”Anyway, I’ve been training for a month now. ‘Alright, let’s complete some quests and level up!’ But then the monster situation suddenly changed, right? That’s why both Big Bro and Liz got called out…”
”…After all, we have to wait until the investigation around the dungeon is done.”
For now, there really aren’t many chances for low-ranked beginner adventurers. Most of them are busy helping build the barracks and residential areas on the south side of the village.
Even with this situation lately, why is the receptionist so busy this morning?
”──This is the guild’s branch office.”
The door opened, and the person we were just talking about came in, leading a party of adventurers with a few men. It’s a party I don’t recognize.
Yeah. Adventurers with ‘pretty high ranks’ from the royal capital and nearby cities have been registering at this village’s guild more often in the last couple of days.
Well, they’ve already completed their main registration at their home bases, so we just need to confirm and do some additional registration here.
After finishing my conversation with Garm, I get to work.
”Garm! Perfect timing. Let’s spar!”
Since my work started, Garm was left without anything to do, so Hiroya took him to the training area in the back.
* * *
The party before noon is a mid-level party ranked C based in the royal capital. I check their adventurer cards and compare them with the list stored in the guild. This task takes quite a bit of time and effort if done alone.
After finishing the registration, I introduce them to a few inns in the village, and finally wrap up my work.
”──Garm, you’re moving better now.”
It seems the sparring is over too, as Hiroya came back with Garm into the guild.
”…Was that from the capital?”
Garm, looking a bit tired, sat down in a chair.
”Yeah. In just the last 2 days, there have been ten groups.”
”Things should calm down soon, right? There are new people in this village too.”
I must have looked tired as well. Hiroya spoke to me in a comforting way.
”Today’s investigation will open up the area around the dungeon. It’s going to be busy for a while…”
I finished the last of my honey lemon drink, which had become weak as the ice melted.
”Must be nice for those with high ranks.”
Garm stood up and took 2 bottles of honey lemon from the ‘refrigerator,’ a magic tool that was recently developed in the capital, and tossed a coin my way.
”There will be rank restrictions for a while in that area. But you can’t let it go bad, Garm. The goblins and wild boars around the forest are increasing, so if you keep working hard on that…”
Hiroya gulped down the honey lemon that Garm offered him.
”Yeah. I can’t keep making big bro and Liz do small jobs because of me. I’ll do my best.”
Garm smiled.
”──Is Hiroya here?”
The guild door opened again, and 2 cute girls along with another girl around my age walked in.
”Oh, sorry! I promised to go gather herbs for the clinic!”
Hiroya quickly stood up and ran over to the girls.
”Good luck, you two!”
He said that and left the guild, holding hands with the girls on either side, while a younger girl hugged him from behind.
”…Unlike you, he’s really popular…”
”Ah, Marti, I guess Hiroya really is liked, huh…”
Garm leaned on the table, staring at the door that just closed.
”Is that girl the Marti you were talking about? She’s cute… but it seems like you don’t stand a chance.”
”Then, how about this? Miyorie, let’s go on a date!”
”Sure, but only after you rank up to A.”
”…That feels harsher than just being turned down.”
”But… Hiroya, you know…”
”?”
Garm looked a bit surprised by the sudden change in topic.
”I thought he seemed mature, but sometimes he really gives off that ‘big brother’ vibe.”
”Oh, I get that. But he doesn’t come off as cocky. I’ve felt that way too.”
Garm, who was feeling a bit restless, would invite me to join him or try to cheer me up when I was tired. He really knows how to read the room and be considerate.
”Well, I don’t have a big brother, so I can’t really say.”
Thinking about that, I enjoyed a relaxing afternoon.
This was a story about the guild after ‘Dungeon Burst.’
While mixing in Hiroya and the others’ stories, it seems like the talk will continue about the drastically changed monster situation in the dungeon and Goblin Forest for a while.
