 ──On the day of the promise,

 I arrived at the nearest station an hour before our meeting time. As I was moving to the meeting place, I got a message from Risa-san saying, “I suddenly have work and can’t make it,” and our plans were canceled.

 In less than a week, I couldn’t gather much information about Risa-san’s interests, so honestly, I felt relieved.

 From our messages, I learned a little bit: unlike me, a student, Risa-san seems “really busy.”

 I can reply quickly between school and my part-time job, but Risa-san… her messages take a long time to be read, and she definitely doesn’t reply in real-time.

 When I finally get a response, it’s usually just a few short sentences, and sometimes she leaves me on read.

 Maybe she doesn’t feel like hanging out with me, but she politely sends a message to decline. She says things like, “I’ll make it up to you. Next time we meet, I’ll treat you to a meal.” I don’t even know what that thanks is for, so I quickly declined. Is Risa-san a bit clueless?

 But… since we’re not that close, I don’t think much of it. Still, it might be tough to date someone who can’t make plans even an hour before the day.

 It seems difficult to hang out with someone who understands such situations, like a medical professional or a coworker who can adjust their time freely and won’t mind last-minute cancellations.

 It’s unlikely, but if I were to date someone like Risa-san, who has a busy job, I’d feel like I’m the only one caring about the relationship, and it would feel like being ignored. With work, daily life, and hobbies, her priority in the relationship would probably be very low.

 If that happens, I’d constantly need to check if she cares about me, or I wouldn’t feel secure. In the end, I’d probably get anxious and end up saying, “This is too much; I can’t keep this up,” and break up right away.

 ”……”

 Even though it’s impossible, I fell into self-hatred for having such overly hopeful fantasies.
