Volume 2 Chapter 5 Cooking Environment
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Is it there or not, which is it?”
”…Should we check the fridge together?”
I went with Risa-san to the kitchen space and slid the movable panel hanging from the ceiling to the side. The fridge, which was hidden behind a wall-like panel, appeared.
I wanted to believe it was just my imagination when I heard her softly mumble, “I wonder what’s inside…” It was strange how Risa-san hesitated to touch the fridge and took a deep breath before opening it.
I started to feel anxious about looking inside the fridge too. What if there are scary, germ-filled ingredients? Even if I see them, I prepared myself to stay calm.
(What? It’s more normal than I thought.)
Inside the opened fridge, there were only unopened silver and clear pouches and jars of various sizes lined up.
”With this, I can make breakfast. If I cook rice and use that pouch…”
”Shuu, I’m sorry! I can’t eat any of this.”
”Can’t eat it?”
Is it expired? I picked up a pouch and looked at the label.
”Cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil…?”
Just oils… no, only oils.
”It’s not for eating. Those are ingredients for making hand cream. Homemade cosmetics are popular, but once I got the ingredients, I got satisfied and just kept them, planning to make it later. Also, I don’t have any rice right now, and the rice cooker is missing.”
A home fridge is usually a space to keep food cool and stored, right? Even if there’s no rice, how can a rice cooker just go missing?
”Missing, huh…”
”But, there’s a microwave oven instead! It’s a built-in type, so you can use that right away!”
Trying to cheer up, Risa-san opened a door near the stove. It seemed to have both microwave and oven functions. And for some reason, it looked unused. It was too clean.
”I’ve never used something like this. How do you use it?”
”Uh… I don’t know either. Oh, but there should be a pot! I’ll find it right away!”
Risa-san, looking flustered, pulled out the storage under the sink.
”Oh, that?”
There were colorful CD packages with illustrations of thin-skinned men that made me want to pixelate them. They were neatly lined up.
”I’m sorry! Forget you saw that!”
”Got it.”
Awkward. I wanted to ask, “Why did you put this here?” but I knew I shouldn’t.
This was the first time I saw someone filling kitchen storage with hobby items instead of cooking tools. It might be a smart use of space.
For now, I realized I shouldn’t carelessly open the storage around here.
