The next morning, a friend of the hospital director’s wife came to pick us up in a car.
”Hi, I’m Elishira. Nice to meet you, Shuu.”
She wasn’t very wide, but she was taller than Risa-san and looked like she either played sports or went to the gym. She had a strong build.
After we greeted each other in English, she introduced herself in Japanese, which surprised me. I heard that Elishira-san lives in Midtown, where many Japanese medical workers also live.
She said she had lived in Japan for a few years in the past, so she can still speak Japanese.
”Since we decided to live together, is it okay to stick with the original plan of having a studio room instead of a one-bedroom with 2 rooms?”
”Sticking with the original plan,” huh? Risa-san probably only planned to meet me when she came to Japan. If she lived alone here, no one would know about her pregnancy.
(No one?)
Risa-san probably hasn’t told anyone… It’s true that pregnancy is a private matter, but it can affect her work. Is she worried about that?
”Yes. Even if it’s small, I want a safe place with good security. Considering our budget, I think a studio room is the best choice.”
After hearing Risa-san’s words, Elishira-san asked me, “If you both decided, that’s fine, but you’re okay with that, right, Shuu?” Elishira-san seems to enjoy taking care of people in situations like ours.
”Yes. If we get married someday, we’ll probably have kids too…”
Risa-san reacted to the word “kids” and jumped a little. She glared at me, so I pretended to laugh and asked, “What?”
”Wait! Marriage? Are you two getting married? I’m sorry. I thought you were just going to be roommates. If that’s the case, a studio room is fine. By the way, when do you mean by ‘someday’?”
I see. It looks like Elishira-san doesn’t know about the pregnancy either.
”Um! We haven’t decided on anything specific yet! Please keep it a secret from others!”
Risa-san was pleading. It seems she hadn’t told anyone about dating me either.
”I get it. Don’t worry! But can I tell my family?”
”Huh? Well… um…”
”It’s okay, my family can keep a secret.”
”Ugh, fine…”
Risa-san replied nervously. It looks like Elishira-san’s family might end up knowing too.
I have a feeling that Risa-san won’t be able to keep the secret at the level she wants…
”Geez, Shuu, you idiot.”
She said that quickly so only I could hear. Risa-san probably hasn’t told her parents or work about the pregnancy or the marriage either. Unexpectedly, my careless words might have made things worse.
