Volume 4 Chapter 7 House Hunting And Risa-San’s Circumstances

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Finding a place to live only took half a day. We decided on a one-room apartment in a mid-rise building owned by Elishira-san’s company, and it has a doorman.

It’s surrounded by tall buildings, so there are a lot of people around even during the day, and there aren’t many green spaces that you can see from the hotel room.

But it’s bigger than the cheap apartment I lived in Japan, and it seems like it will be comfortable for just the two of us.

After we had lunch at a nearby restaurant, we were given the contract inside the store. Just like she said yesterday, Risa checked each part of the contract, handed over the documents she prepared, and signed it right away.

Since it comes with furniture, we just need to buy a few more things, and we can move in anytime. It looks like we can start living there in 2 or 3 days.

Then we got a ride from Elishira-san to a store to buy some supplies. Risa seems eager to start living in our new place instead of the hotel, so she decided to get everything ready early.

At the store, when we were about to say goodbye, Elishira-san invited us over for dinner later that evening, saying, “Come to my place tonight. I’ll treat you to dinner.” I thanked her and agreed to visit her house in the evening.

After buying detergent and other daily necessities, we went back to the hotel and asked them to deliver our purchases to the new house. Since we got everything done for the day, I wanted to relax, so I invited Risa to a café.

”Shuu, about that thing… can you not tell anyone else? I haven’t talked to my parents yet.”

I accidentally told Elishira-san that I plan to marry Risa. I kind of expected she would say something like that.

 ”Okay, I understand.”

Risa’s family seems to be what you would call a “good family,” unlike mine. They probably have a lot of expectations and rules.

”It’s not that I don’t want to marry you, Shuu… I just need to think about when to tell them.”

”Are you worried they might oppose it and try to set you up for an arranged marriage?”

 ”That will definitely not happen!”

After strongly denying it, Risa let out a deep sigh.

”Actually, I told my parents, ‘I’m never getting married, so don’t expect any grandkids.’ I also said things like, ‘No one would want to date someone like me,’ and ‘I don’t have time for that in my life,’ and ‘Just leave me alone about finding a partner.’ I’ve been saying that for years, so now they probably think I’ve given up on marriage and grandkids.”

I felt that way when I first met Risa. I guess I was right.

”But if they hear about me getting married, or even having a grandkid, their hopes will be fulfilled all at once!”

 ”Yeah… but isn’t that a good thing?”

”It is, but it’s not! They’ll start nagging me to come back to Japan and to slow down at work.”

So, Risa doesn’t want her parents to interfere with her career, which she loves.

”That’s why I want to wait until after the matching is done and I have a formal job contract… ideally around April.”

”So, when will you tell them about the pregnancy…?”

”I think it would be fine to tell them right before the baby is born.”

 ”Right before!?”

Is that really a good time to say it? But Risa seems pretty set on this. If I hadn’t chased after her, she probably would have tried to raise the baby alone, so I guess it’s natural for her to think that way.

At first, Risa planned to keep everything from her parents until she returned to Japan.

(What to do… It seems impossible to convince her right now.)

Risa said this, but her mind might change after a while. When she asked, “Is that not okay?” I replied, “That’s fine.”

I didn’t think that my casual response would lead to a big mess later when we returned to Japan, involving “Risa’s parents who didn’t know about the pregnancy” and “my guardians who already knew about Risa’s pregnancy.”
