Volume 4 Chapter 20 Emergency Summons From Home
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The next day, on Christmas, Risa-san and I took a flight back to Japan in the afternoon. For some reason, Risa-san also got an “urgent call” from her parents, so she had to leave early too.
Risa-san was confused and kept wondering, “What could be so important that we need to talk in person?”
We only had 3 days to stay before being away for a long time, so we went back to her tower apartment to clean up the trash and the stuff we had left at the entrance.
That day, instead of hanging out in Risa-san’s room, we both headed to our homes.
It had been since New Year’s that I visited my guardians, and it felt awkward. I wanted to explain things about Risa-san right away and planned to go back to the cheap apartment where I lived 4 months ago.
But I was told that we had made plans to visit Risa-san’s family, the Rokushoushio family, tomorrow, so I had to stay at my parents’ house tonight.
It was all happening so fast, but it seemed to be what Risa-san’s parents wanted, so there was no choice. I didn’t have time to prepare a suit for the visit, so I would probably have to go in my school uniform.
We decided to calmly talk about what to do next, and I was told to put my stuff in my room.
(I still have a room in this house?)
I was surprised and confused by that. I thought the study desk in the room, which I hadn’t used since graduating middle school, had already been thrown away, but there was a new bed in there too.
I felt like I didn’t belong in this house and thought I was just temporarily staying here, so I was confused.
(I might have misunderstood those people.)
I realized that now. My name was called from the living room. I was pulled back from my thoughts filled with disappointment and embarrassment about myself and hurried to respond.
In front of me were my family register, consent forms, and a marriage application, and we started discussing things again.
(So Risa-san really comes from a good family.)
I just found out that my guardianss had connections with the Rokushoushio family. Apparently, they were business partners. So, they knew more about Risa-san’s family situation than I did.
I heard that Risa-san’s family is a branch of a well-known local family that has produced many politicians and doctors. If you go back far enough, their ancestors were connected to noble families and samurai from the warring states period.
Even though it’s a branch family, Risa-san is the only one who can carry on the family name, so her parents wanted her to get married if possible. I didn’t really mind, so it was fine with me.
Once I confirmed that I was okay with it, my guardians nodded and contacted Risa-san’s family.
I thought it was surprising how much we had to discuss and how many documents we needed for a marriage.
But I was scared that if Risa-san found out my true feelings about all this, she might just say, “Then I’ll back out,” and that terrified me.
”Shuu, is it true that you’re going to marry Rokushoushio-san?”
”Huh…?”
My guardians, who were talking to Risa-san’s parents, asked something strange.
”They said the young lady left home saying she couldn’t marry Shuu.”
”What!?”
”Why is that happening? Is Risa-san having cold feet about marriage?”
”Let me talk to her. I want to speak directly.”
After greeting Risa-san’s parents, I explained that I had Risa-san’s consent for the marriage.
Since it was an emergency, without Risa-san’s permission, I played the recording from New York airport where I said, “I will marry you,” as proof.
I never thought I would use it like this, but I was really glad I had it as a backup. Since it was Risa-san’s voice, both sides could trust what I was saying for now.
Next, I asked about the situation when Risa-san left her home. Her parents said, “Someone is coming tomorrow to discuss the marriage, so don’t go out,” and Risa-san got angry and said, “I’m not marrying that person!”
Why does a simple conversation keep getting more complicated? The reason is clear: Risa-san hasn’t talked about our relationship.
Also, Risa-san’s parents know that she is a bit hesitant about love and marriage.
(I guess I have to clear up the misunderstanding myself.)
I told Risa-san’s parents that “I’ll take care of Risa-san” and that “we’ll visit as planned with the 3 of us.”
(Risa-san keeps avoiding me.)
I sent Risa-san a simple message on my phone: “I want to see you. Where are you now?”
