Volume 4 Chapter 22 Misunderstandings
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I left my old part-time job and got on the train. I wasn’t heading to my apartment, but to Risa-san’s family home. I already knew where it was since I was planning to visit tomorrow.
”Shuu, your place is close to my family’s home, right?”
”No, that’s not true.”
”…Huh?”
I stepped onto the road where I could see Risa-san’s house. It was bigger than I imagined. There were well-kept plants, curbs, stepping stones, and a pond with a stone bridge. And behind that beautiful Japanese garden, there was a single-story house.
”Shuu, why!? I’m not going in!”
I grabbed Risa-san’s wrist as she tried to turn back and pulled her back.
”Let go! I don’t want to marry some guy from a matchmaking thing!”
”Risa-san, it’s a misunderstanding. The person coming to your house tomorrow to talk about marriage is me.”
”Huh? Really!? No way… Are you serious?”
”Yeah, it’s true. Because you ran away, my guardians started to doubt if you really agreed to the marriage talk.”
They thought the whole marriage thing was just my imagination or a joke. I figured I could complain about this.
”…Oh, I see! I didn’t tell my parents about you.”
”Right. So for your parents, it’s a sudden ‘marriage talk.’ But I cleared up that misunderstanding too.”
”Ugh, I’m sorry. Thank you!”
I didn’t want to explain how I cleared up the misunderstanding. If Risa-san found out about that voice message I used, she might freak out, even if it was just a little.
”I’ll go tomorrow. You just wait at home, Risa-san.”
I walked her to the impressive gate of her family’s house, and to make sure she wouldn’t run away again, I lightly kissed her lips as a reminder.
”Okay.”
She nodded shyly and said in a small voice, “I’ll be waiting.”
(That made me feel better.)
I thought I was safe, but I was wrong. At that moment, I should have met Risa-san’s parents and told them not to mention “that voice” to her.
I didn’t take any precautions and just watched as Risa-san went inside her house.
The next day, when my guardians and I visited, Risa-san’s parents apologized, saying, “Risa-san isn’t coming out of her room.”
(What is this, a myth about a rock door?)
When I asked what happened, they said they were happy that Risa-san was considering marriage, but then things got complicated.
It seemed like there wasn’t a problem, but when I listened closely, I found out that Risa-san had learned that everyone heard the “voice message where she declared she would marry me.”
(Risa-san must have freaked out from embarrassment.)
I was slow to follow up, and things got tangled. When I asked Risa-san’s parents if I could see her, they said she didn’t want to see me right now.
(Could it be that I got rejected…?)
It was my fault for not choosing my actions wisely to protect myself. But I couldn’t give up here. I asked where Risa-san’s room was and got permission to go inside.
While I tried to convince Risa-san, it seemed like our parents and guardians waited in the living room.
(“First a ‘runaway,’ now a ‘shut-in’…”)
I took a deep breath and called out to Risa-san in her room.
