When we, now officially a couple, got home, the sun had already set.
I lost count of how many times we went out today… my legs are so tired. But I feel really happy inside. Ms. Akari looked just as happy.
”Welcome back, Yuuta, Mama Akari. Yuuta, what’s with that face? You look so worn out and have dark circles under your eyes… Haha, did Mama Akari wear you out?”
”Haha, maybe…”
Ms. Akari turned bright red and hid behind me.
”…I’m glad. It seems like you two are doing well enough to be apart for a year. But still, this is…”
Puruun suddenly started squirming around.
”What’s wrong?”
”Well, you two smell really… um, you know… I feel like I might get excited too!”
Then I looked over, and Melon was also fidgeting and holding her private area.
”Big sister, something feels weird down there…”
Oh no, this is bad. Are we still giving off strong pheromones?
Ms. Akari and I quickly ran out of the house.
And even though we were leaving tomorrow, we had to wait outside until the sisters fell asleep to cool off.
My body was really tired, but even when I went back to the straw mat at midnight, I was too excited like a kid before a field trip to sleep.
Puruun, who was sleeping next to me, also seemed unable to sleep, sighing and tossing and turning a lot.
”Puruun. Is something bothering you? I don’t smell anymore, right?”
”No, I’m fine. I was a bit worried earlier. But now that it’s finally tomorrow, I’m just really excited.”
”Me too.”
”Yuuta… do you think we’ll be okay in the royal capital?”
”What are you worried about? We’ve been doing fine so far.”
”Yeah, but that’s as family. Because of that smell earlier, I’m really aware of our boy-girl thing now… I wonder if that will go well too.”
”I’ll do my best to meet your expectations.”
”Really?”
”Yeah, I’m really happy you said you like me. But I still have this idea of one man, one woman stuck in my head. Honestly, I’m not ready to accept everything about you just yet. But starting tomorrow, I’ll have a bit more distance from Ms. Akari, and I want to find out more about your good sides.”
”…Thank you, Yuuta. Let’s do our best starting tomorrow.”
Even though I said that, I still felt really guilty about betraying Ms. Akari.
Puruun hugged my right arm with both arms, pressed her face against my shoulder, and soon started to softly snore. I thought strongly while looking at Puruun’s cute sleeping face that I had to protect her for now.

The next morning was sunny. Perfect for our departure to the royal capital.
After having breakfast with my family, we all headed to the caravan. The caravan had finished getting ready to leave last night, and Mr. Agohige and the caravan people were chatting casually with the villagers, saying their goodbyes.
”Hey, Yuuta, Puruun. Your carriage is over here. Be happy, you’re with me.”
Ms. Sharlin said this and guided us to the carriage. We loaded our stuff and decided to hang out together in the square, talking with Ms. Akari and Melon, when Okia and Sodon came to see us off. Then Ellulu showed up, and Sodon suddenly got awkward, which made me want to laugh.
Ellulu said she came to see Puruun off, but then she whispered to me.
”Yuuta. Puruun is my precious little sister. Please take good care of her.”
”Of course. She’s a precious little sister to me too.”
”Wait, little sister? Puruun said she wants to be with you. She’s still a virgin, so be gentle with her the first time!”
”──Hey, stop it! Ellulu, don’t say those things to Yuuta!”
Puruun hugged Ellulu tightly while saying that. Ellulu hugged Puruun back just as hard.
”I know it’s going to be tough, but hang in there. You might go to the royal capital school someday too, so I’ll need your help then.”
”Yeah, I’ll do my best, big sister!”
Sodon watched this and whispered, “So precious, so precious.”
Okia started talking to me.
”About that sword of Barua you showed me the other day. I checked with Mr. Agohige, and it turns out it’s way better than the one I lent you. Barua might be surprised about all this from wherever he is, but I think he prepared that sword for you to protect the girls when it really matters. So, while you’re in the royal capital, make sure to protect PurPur and work hard for your dream!”
”Okay!”
”──Hey, it’s almost time to leave! Everyone, get on your own carriages!”
The caravan leader’s voice echoed in the square.
I walked up to Ms. Akari and said,
”Ms. Akari, I love you. Haha, I don’t know why, but being here is making me remember a lot of things… But let’s meet again next year, healthy and happy!”
I couldn’t stop the tears from falling.
”Yes!” Ms. Akari replied with a big smile, even while crying, and I gently kissed her lips.
”Let’s go!”
After the command, the carriages started moving one by one. Melon ran after our moving carriage.
”Big sister! Yuuta! I’m definitely coming next year too! You both take care!”
Puruun was waving from the carriage, crying loudly. Soon, Melon’s voice faded away, and the carriage left the village and entered the forest road.
”Ahaha, they’re out of sight now. Melon, Mama Akari, and everyone in the village…”
I hugged the sobbing Puruun and said,
”Don’t be silly. Don’t cry. A new challenge has just begun. Even if we’re apart, our hearts are one. We’ll all work together and do our best from here!”
”…You’re right. I need to get pumped up.”
Ms. Sharlin, who was watching us, said,
”You guys are a great family. I’m jealous.”
So, Puruun and I set off for the royal capital, filled with a mix of excitement and worry, not knowing what awaited us.
