Chapter 145 Hiroya vs Vampire

(Hiroya’s POV)
After a nice dinner with Ms. Sasha, who arrived late, I took her to the open space on the second floor, and we talk about my fight with Otto.
”Ah, so it’s the ‘Magic Eye’…”
Elberhardt sat back on the sofa, crossing his arms.
”With that battle in the dungeon and pushing back the Demonkin version of him… how did you fight without using ‘Physical Boost’?”
”I discovered ‘a certain power’.”
I thought it would be easier to show him, so I unleashed ‘Hiroya’s power.’
”Wow…”
Elberhardt looked surprised when he saw it.
”This power is just like the ‘Obu Hiroya’ from my past life. It’s probably tied to my negative feelings. I had a tough upbringing as the heir of a famous samurai family.”
I asked Rena to join us so Elberhardt could explain.
”When he was reincarnated, those ‘negative feelings’ were hidden away. So, they stayed as part of his soul that wasn’t optimized for his current body. When it comes out… the overflowing soul takes the form of his past self and shows his past power.”
”But… I was nothing like that in my past life──well, I guess you’ll understand once we fight.”
Elberhardt smirked confidently.
”Let’s sneak out of the house. Your ‘family’ might be okay, but we can’t let the guests see us, right? We can set up a barrier in the backyard so others can’t see the fight.”
Elberhardt stood up from the sofa, and Rena and I quietly followed him down the stairs.

Rena handed me the Bokken sword and wooden sword, and we faced each other, keeping some distance.
”I’ve set up the barrier. Now only Rena and the others can see us fighting in the backyard.”
”Thanks, Lady Rena. …Now, I should tell you about my power too. …It’s another reason I survived in this world as a kid.”
Elberhardt’s eyes started to glow red.
”No way… you…”
Rena’s eyes widened, and she covered her mouth with her hand.
”With this power, I finally feel like I can fight on equal terms… So, do you understand who I am?”
Elberhardt smiled, revealing sharp teeth.
”Could it be… a ‘vampire’?”
”Yeah… but not the kind from this world, more like the ‘vampires’ from our world, Lady Rena.”
Elberhardt readied his wooden sword with a fierce look.
”So, go ahead. You can attack first, Hiroya.”
The sword energy from Elberhardt kept rising.
”I’m not like my usual self… I might be a bit reckless, but here I come!”
I grabbed the Bokken sword from my left hip and charged at Elberhardt.
He lightly thrust at me with his wooden sword. As expected from a hero, he seemed to see my moves.
I twisted my body to dodge the thrust and used my rotation to strike at his right side.
──That hit should have landed…
But the wooden sword that should have hit him was already back in his hand, deflecting my Bokken sword.
”What?!”
Now my right side was wide open.
(This is bad!)
I quickly kicked out. Elberhardt blocked with his right arm, and his left hand swung the wooden sword at me.
Using the kick’s momentum, I jumped back, managing to create some distance.
I sheathed the Bokken sword at my left hip as Elberhardt’s thrust came right at me.
(Damn! So fast!)
I drew my sword as quickly as I could and deflected his wooden sword.
(This is it!)
I lowered the tip of my Bokken sword and aimed for Elberhardt’s chin, slashing upward.
──He smirked.
Elberhardt laughed and tilted his head back, narrowly avoiding the attack.
(Then!)
Stab the Bokken sword straight in. But, his left arm gets grabbed while he’s holding the Bokken sword.
”!”
For a moment, the night sky spreads out in front of me…

(Rena’s POV)
(What’s happening?)
Rena can’t see what the two of them are doing at all. When Rena realizes it, Hiroya is already on the ground. Mr. Elberhardt has one of his arms held…
”As expected of Hiroya. Nice fall.”
”Seriously, what’s with that speed and strength? Even if Hiroya loses his balance, he just attacks with all his power…”
”I was surprised too. I was scared many times. Did you really have that much ability in your past life? Are you a monster?”
He’s laughing while pulling Hiroya’s arm to help him up.
”Well, I’m the monster here.”
He laughs at himself a bit.

”Hiroya is as skilled as those called ‘sword masters’ in his past life.”
I use ‘healing’ to help Hiroya’s whole body feel better.
”Is that so… That makes sense. Until now, the only one I could fight like this was Shinji.”
”What about my mom?”
Hiroya asks with interest.
”If I show my ‘vampire’ powers, Megumi wouldn’t be able to handle it.”
Mr. Elberhardt looks at Hiroya, who is lying down with his head on my lap, and smiles.
”But… that power really puts a lot of strain on your body, huh, Hiroya?”
”Yeah… I always have muscle pain all over. That’s why I don’t want Rena to let me use it too much…”
I add while stroking Hiroya’s head on my lap.
”Right… And with that kind of backlash, I also think it’s not a power he should use too often with that body.”
Mr. Elberhardt crosses his arms while saying this.
”But, can’t you use the ‘eyes’ that could see my movements to tap into your past life’s power?”
”Just the eyes? Ouch!”
As Hiroya tries to lift his head from Rena’s lap, I push him back down.
”Oh… I see. Like using ‘Physical Boost’ on specific parts…”
I understand what Mr. Elberhardt is trying to say.
”Yes. If it’s just the eyes, I don’t think it would put that much strain on you. ──What do you think, Hiroya? I think it’s worth a try.”

”For now, let’s remove the barriers… and just do some safe practice. If we don’t, people will wonder why we even came here.”
Mr. Elberhardt stands up and gets ready with the wooden sword again.
”Hiroya. You’re okay now, right? I get that you want to lean on Lady Rena, but… I won’t hold back against someone who’s that lucky, you know?”
”…You figured it out…”
Hiroya scratches his head and stands up from Rena’s lap.
”I’ll ask for a lap pillow again next time.”
Hiroya says this with a smile, making me blush and nod shyly.

(Hiroya’s POV)
”Hey? Where are Karin and Gisela?”
After lightly sweating with Elberhardt in the backyard, I head back to the dining hall where everyone is.
”You are taking a while, so they said they’re going home.”
Martina is munching on some biscuits.
”Sir Elberhardt, Karin and Gisela said, ‘Please tell us more adventure stories.’.”
”I see. I’m also a bit personally interested in those girls… they’re the neighbors, right?”
Elberhardt replies to Kazumi, and he exchanges glances with Barbara.
(Hmm? What’s that about…)
I’m a little curious, but they’re a couple, so there’s probably something going on.
”Well then, we should be leaving soon. Is it okay if we come back to hang out again?”
”Of course! Even if it’s just Ms. Barbara!”
Everyone seems to have had a good time chatting while we were gone. They seem to have gotten pretty close.
”Ms. Sasha, please stay over.”
”Yes. I was planning to do that tonight.”
Kazumi and Ms. Sasha probably had a good business talk.

Before heading back to the inn, we go to the hot spring with my dad and the others. Then, the carriage with Elberhardt and Ms. Barbara leaves.
(‘Eyes’ huh…)
