Volume 1 Chapter 29 Reunion
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
After arriving in the Royal Capital, I got a job as a helper at Sir Mihail’s mansion.
At the same time, I went to the real estate agency in Downtown where I had gone with Puruun before, and I rented a pretty spacious lodging with the money I had. Just working as a helper wasn’t enough to cover my expenses, but Puruun had secretly sent some of her saved money to the merchant guild, so I could pay for Ms. Akari and Melon’s travel costs and still manage to live for a while.
About a month later, when the caravan carrying Ms. Akari and Melon was supposed to arrive in the Royal Capital, news came that the exiled Fourth Princess had safely reached the Viscount Karakafuma territory in the far south. According to Ms. Humari, this would calm things down in the royal castle for a bit, and the guards might loosen their information control, but I still worried about Puruun.
It felt pathetic that I could only worry and couldn’t do anything.

That day, I planned to help unload the cargo that was supposed to arrive from Ilman, but as soon as I got there, the steward called for me and took me to the back storage room.
”It’s pretty hot, but it can’t be helped. Close all the doors!”
Following the steward’s orders, I closed all the doors of the storage room, but since there was only a small window, it got quite dark inside. There was a big wooden box that seemed to have arrived from Ilman today, and when the steward opened the lid, oh no!?
Puruun was inside!
”Shh, be quiet! Yuuta. It’s bad if someone finds me!”
Puruun told me to keep quiet.
”No, Puruun. What on earth…?”
”I’m glad to see you, Yuuta. It’s a long story, but we can’t stay here long… You’ve prepared a place for us, right? Can you take us there?”
”We?”
Looking closely, I saw another small Elf girl inside the box.
”Ah, sorry! We’re intruding!”
”Wait, who is this?”
”Oh, let’s skip the details for now! We’re in a hurry. We’ll get back in the box, and you just act like you bought some furniture for your new place and take us there!”
Saying that, Puruun climbed back into the box and closed the lid.
The steward nodded and urged me to hurry.
Not understanding anything, I pulled the cart from the mansion to my new place in Downtown, but… I was just glad. Puruun was safe… that was enough to make me happy. I felt a wave of joy, and my steps toward the new place felt light.
”Phew, it was hot. Summer has really come to the Royal Capital.”
Puruun’s first words after coming out of the box in my new place were that.
”Hey, Aaa-aaa, can you get out by yourself?”
”Puru, can you help me a bit?”
Aaa-aaa? Puru?
As I stood there confused, Puruun said,
”Let me introduce you. This is Aaa-aaa… or rather, Yuuta, I need to tell you the truth. Do you know who this is? This is the exiled Fourth Princess, Lady Asuka! Show some respect!”
”Wait, whatttt? Oh wow!”
I couldn’t help but bow down… I used to love that show with Mito Komon on TV.
”No way, Puru, what’s that? Um, Mr. Yuuta, please call me Aaa-aaa. It would be a big problem if people find out I’m a princess.”
”By the way, Yuuta, is there a shower here? I’m all sweaty, and Aaa-aaa is too…”
”Uh, we don’t have a shower, but we do have running water.”
”That’s fine. Can you go shopping for about an hour? We haven’t eaten anything good lately. And I don’t care about the style, but please get a few not-too-flashy women’s clothes. Oh, and you don’t need to buy underwear!”
”Yeah, but still, I need to get something nice for the princess…”
”Don’t worry. I don’t have any likes or dislikes. But, I guess I don’t really like bugs.”
”Okay… got it…”
Saying that, I went outside, and I kind of understood that Puruun was running away with the princess. The princess going south was probably just a cover-up.
Eventually, if that gets found out, the nobles everywhere will start investigating… or maybe they’re already being watched. In that sense, the upper mansion is probably in danger too. And there’s no doubt that Sir Mihail is involved in this.
After thinking that far, I wiped my body and asked the chubby Puruun, and it turned out I was mostly right. But just in case, it seemed better for me not to know the details. So, I decided not to pry too much.
”Well, the enemies probably don’t think we would sneak into a place like this downtown. We want to buy some time here and wait for Lady Claudel’s next plan. It’s still about a month until Melon and the others arrive, so it’s fine, right, Yuuta?”
”Yeah, that’s fine, but where am I supposed to go? I’m a human, and I can’t just stay under the same roof as the princess.”
”Um, Mr. Yuuta. I’ve been taught not to discriminate against humans. I don’t mind if you’re in the same house, and actually, if you stayed somewhere else while having a place to stay, it would look suspicious if Lord Mihail’s upper mansion was being watched.”
Wow, this princess is an angel. But is it really okay?
”Yuuta. I think you know this, but if you do anything weird to the princess… I will chop off your prized big son into tiny pieces! …But then, it might fit in better.”
…I wonder if she’s still holding a grudge.
The new place is a 1DK, and since there’s a semi-double bed in the living room, I let Puruun and the princess sleep there while I rolled out on the kitchen floor. The princess said it was fine for me to share the bed, but of course, Puruun wouldn’t allow it.
After a while, Puruun snuggled up next to me. The princess seemed tired from all the running away and was sleeping cutely with soft breaths.
I didn’t say anything and hugged Puruun.
”I’m sorry, Yuuta. I couldn’t contact you at all. I wanted to apologize for what happened during that Christmas time…”
”It’s okay. You must have had a lot of trouble. And I was also at fault back then. I regretted many times that I should have been more gentle and taken my time. And I wondered if you stopped contacting me because you were fed up.”
”That’s not true! Even if things got messed up, I still like you! So… let’s do it again, okay?”
”Yeah, of course.”
So, the two of us hugged tightly and kissed for a while, but then Puruun suddenly changed the subject.
”By the way, when I ran away to Lord Mihail’s place, I heard about you. You really did something pretty reckless to leave the military. And it seems like you had some issues with that pervy elf lady too…”
”Don’t say it like that. Sir Mihail and Lady Beyond treated me really well.”
”Oh, sorry. Anyway, Lord Mihail heard about you and later remembered to tell me to check this place out… he said you might find out about Mr. Tethyrkan!”
”Really?”
The address Puruun got wasn’t too far from the upper mansion. I thought I should go check it out as soon as possible.
* * *
The day after Puruun and the princess crashed at my new place.
Puruun cut her hair really short and put on heavy makeup, looking so different that you wouldn’t recognize her from yesterday. With this look, even people from the royal castle or Ms. Humari probably wouldn’t realize it’s Puruun at first glance.
On the other hand, the princess, even in downtown, stands out just because she’s an elf, and she has this divine aura around her.
If she walked outside, people would probably figure out she’s someone important just from that.
So, I felt really bad, but I had to ban her from going out alone.
If something happens, either I or Puruun won’t be around to fix it.
During the day, while I was working at the main house, Puruun, in disguise, was buying things so that Aaa-aaa wouldn’t have any trouble living. It seemed like Puruun was also sneaking in and out of a secret meeting place that I didn’t know about.
One hot and humid day, the delivery from Ilman was late, and I got home from work really late.
When I opened the door, I found Puruun, who was completely n*ked, wiping the body of a n*ked princess with water from a bucket in the kitchen.
”Sorry for interrupting!”
I quickly rolled out from the entrance.
I was told it was okay to come in, but Puruun was really mad.
”Yuuta. I’m going to kill you… Seriously, at least knock next time!”
”But Mr. Yuuta didn’t do anything wrong… I’m fine with him seeing my poor n*ked body.”
Ah, the princess is really an angel!
”That’s not okay, Aaa-aaa. Humans are monsters when it comes to desire. Even if you look poor…”
”Hey, that’s a discriminatory comment towards me!”
”Ah!”
”Pfft, haha. You two really get along well, huh? I’m jealous. But you know, Mr. Yuuta, Puru and I are each other’s first kiss! I’m actually pretty happy about that…”
”??”
Puruun kicked me lightly and whispered secretly.
”Don’t do that kind of thing!”
But I really thought these two were close. The princess seems to trust Puruun a lot. Sometimes, she looks at Puruun with watery eyes. Well, lately, Puruun has been looking quite handsome, so maybe the princess has a crush on her. Haha, I had a weird thought, but I kind of understood what Sodon meant when he said something was precious.
The next day, Puruun and I asked Aaa-aaa to watch the place while we went to the spot Sir Mihail told us about. It was the Royal Museum, and a person named Panareil, who was a curator, helped us. His main job was to catalog historical artifacts, but this museum had many items that humans brought into this world through teleportation. However, it seemed like they were only organized and stored for academic research and not open to the public.
Since we had a recommendation letter from Sir Mihail, we were allowed to see the items.
Sure enough, there were all sorts of things from different times and places in containers. I wondered if the Gregory knife ended up here somehow.
”Most of the items here were collected by Mr. Tethyrkan during field research. But we have many mysterious items, and there aren’t many people like you who can communicate well, so we were wondering who to ask. If you recognize anything, could you please let us know as long as you have time?”
”We’re grateful for the time you’ve given us to show us this. We’ll help as much as we can. By the way, is Mr. Tethyrkan still doing this kind of research?”
”Yes, lately it seems more like a hobby for him. The territory isn’t that big, but since he’s a local lord, he probably doesn’t have any trouble living even if he’s focused on his hobbies. He drops by here about once a year, but we never know when he’ll come…”
After that, I looked at the items and explained what I knew to Panareil, who was taking notes diligently.
As I was looking around, I found something interesting. Is this a Japanese sword? But the handle looks Western. It must be a military sword from the Meiji era. Plus, it’s pretty damaged and rusty. Even if someone wanted to use it, they would need to fix it a lot… I wonder what kind of person brought this here. Did they get it damaged fighting a sandworm or something?
”Yuuta──look here. There’s something similar to what you had!”
Puruun called me over, and when I got there, oh, this is a smartphone. The model is a bit old, but it’s definitely a SHARP smartphone.
And this! It’s a AA battery and a portable charger for it!
The AA batteries are in shrink wrap and look brand new, plus there are quite a few of them. If I use these and this charger, I might be able to get this smartphone working. Well, even if it works, the communication features probably won’t work, but when I explained this to Mr. Panareil, he was really surprised.
”Wait, this device might work? That’s amazing!”
”Yeah, that’s right. The original communication features can’t be used in this world, but I might be able to find out some information about the person who had this smartphone.”
”That’s cool. I really want to try it out right away, but it feels too wasteful if I’m the only one here to witness the test. I’ll ask some other curators, so can we reschedule the test date?”
”Of course, that sounds good.”
”Hey, can’t Yuuta’s smartphone work with this too?”
Puruun asks me.
”Yeah, it can. It uses a Type B micro USB. I can use this charger for my smartphone too.”
”Type B?”
Haha, Puruun. I’m glad my smartphone is old-fashioned.
Then, a week later, we made plans to test the smartphone again at the museum.
It was already the day before Ms. Akari and the others were supposed to arrive, but I thought it would make her happy to have some information ready ahead of time.
