Volume 1 Chapter 10
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
In the distance, a thunderous roar shook the ground.
Some lousy monster must be rampaging around. I know that for sure, but since I don’t know who’s fighting, I can’t just ignore it.
”Sorry, but I think we should head towards the sound.”
Kashiro and the others weren’t exactly eager, but they didn’t say they didn’t want to go.
”…It’s fine to go, but depending on the situation, I think we should avoid combat.”
Yeah, if the opponent is too much to handle, we might have to give up on a few things.
”Hey, what about the instant death ability…?”
”Use it right away. If Yodomizu wants, you can head back to Base afterward.”
Since we know there’s a monster, there’s no need to hold back.
”But if there are classmates around, we’ll help them, right?”
”Yeah. But don’t push yourself too hard. Instead, if it looks like we can help, we might consider bringing them back to Base.”
”…That’s true. I don’t think we need to hide our abilities when lives are at stake.”
I had my thoughts, but Kashiro agreed. Yodomizu nodded too.
”If it’s a single opponent, Yodomizu’s magic will take care of it. If there are multiple, we’ll have to observe. I don’t want to die either.”
After deciding on a rough plan, we hurried towards the sound.
It was such a loud noise that other classmates might have gathered too. Most would probably avoid getting involved out of self-preservation, but there are always some with a strong sense of justice.

When we arrived, a girl and a monster were locked in a fierce battle.
The girl──The Class Representative──was showing off a bold attack, her long ponytail flowing as she wrapped her body in lightning. She held a massive spear with both hands, moving swiftly, but even when the spear struck and the lightning exploded, the monster continued to rampage without a care.
It was a huge demon with red-black skin, easily over 2 meters tall. It wielded 2 battle axes in its hands, and every swing sent vibrations and shockwaves our way. Its destructive power could split the ground with a single blow. If it hit directly, there would be no chance of survival.
”Yodomizu, can you use your instant death ability?”
The atmosphere around Yodomizu changes.
Did the demon sense it with its magic? Its eyes are now on us.
”Ugh, I can’t do it! I used it, but it didn’t work!”
Is that even possible? So there are limits to instant death magic?
”…Hyakudou, my ‘Analysis Magic’ isn’t reacting either. I think that demonkind is immune to magic. It doesn’t look like the Class Representative’s lightning is working on it either.”
What a troublesome ability. Can we even defeat that monster without magic?
As I focus on the demonkind, the base system reacts.
’An excellent warrior of the ogre tribe. A general belonging to the Demon King’s army, with resistance to all magic. Defeat Point: 6000pt.’
So ‘Base Magic’ reacts. The line is pretty unclear.
And seriously, it only has bad stuff written about it. The King Goblin was only 200pt, and this is on a whole different level.
”It seems magic really doesn’t work. You two go back to base.”
”…What about Hyakudou?”
”Once you help the class representative, escape immediately.”
Yodomizu grabs the hem of my uniform.
”I’ll help too. I think I can at least be a decoy.”
That’s not possible.
I can’t involve her with a monster that magic doesn’t affect.
”Yodomizu, having us here will just be a hindrance. It’s frustrating, but…”
Kashiro persuades her, and Yodomizu somehow understands.
”…Please come back quickly.”
”Remember, if Hyakudou dies, we’ll disappear along with the base.”
That’s right. With that risk, my death isn’t cheap.
”I know.”
After confirming that the two teleported away, I shoulder my club and approach the battlefield.
The ogre had been watching me for a while now. Does it think I’m the one who used the instant death magic?
”Class representative, you’re fighting something amazing.”
”… Is it Hyakudou?”
Still on guard against the ogre, Class Representative replies.
”If you plan to run, I can help. I can use teleportation magic.”
”Hyakudou, please escape. I’ll take that thing down.”
She stated it so firmly. Class Representative’s resolve seems strong.
Tsukisumi Harin. She’s our class Class Representative, a dignified girl with a trademark ponytail. Serious and strong in her sense of justice, she’s caring enough to be loved by many students. A top student with both brains and beauty, she’s also trained in martial arts, if I remember correctly.
”Why are you so fixated on this thing?”
”If we let this monster loose, it’ll harm everyone in the class.”
”Even in another world, you’re still acting like the Class Representative.”
”Because I am the Class Representative.”
Just for that reason, she’s willing to risk her life.
If there’s such a thing as a true hero, I think someone like Class Representative is the right fit. She doesn’t flinch even when facing an extraordinary monster, bravely jumping into danger for her classmates. The outcome of the hero race seems pretty much decided already.
”This ogre is immune to magic. No wasting magical power.”
”…Honestly, that’s a relief. It was too much for me alone.”
The ogre moves.
It seems it’s done waiting.
Now, it’s targeting me.
It kicks the ground and rushes in an instant.
From the side, Class Representative’s lightning strikes hit, slowing it down for just a moment, even if it didn’t really affect it.
Thanks to her support, I managed to dodge the battle axe, but… I don’t feel alive right now. If I get hit even once, it’s straight to the afterlife.
This guy… even though he’s been hit by lightning multiple times, he doesn’t react at all and just keeps targeting me. And yet, he manages to avoid any fatal blows from the Class Representative’s spear, which is honestly impressive for an enemy.
I wait for the right moment, aiming for when his movements slow down from the lightning, and I swing my club with all my might.
I hit him right in the side, but──my club just shattered into pieces.
How tough is his skin? Even the Poison Knife doesn’t seem like it’ll work.
”Magic doesn’t work, and physical attacks are useless too. I really don’t feel like I can win.”
”Isn’t it your own stupid strength that broke it?”
As the Class Representative said, it seems like my attack actually had some effect, as the ogre lets out a furious roar.
Attacking me while I’m unarmed? He has no sense of bushido at all.
I barely dodge the Battle Axe, but the shockwave makes it hard to keep my balance. Even in this situation, I try to find an opening and stab with the Poison Knife, but… the blade doesn’t even penetrate.
This is impossible.
”Class Representative, it’s your turn. I’ll stop its movements.”
My knife isn’t working, but the Class Representative’s spear is holding strong. Maybe it’s because she’s got that lightning-infused speed. If her attack lands, there might be a chance.
I wait for the moment right after the ogre swings its Battle Axe and kicks up its arm. I didn’t manage to make it drop the axe, but it slightly disrupts its stance. I quickly dive in and pin one of its arms down. I hold it tight and try to wrestle with it, but… its core strength is on a whole different level. Even if I wanted to throw it, it doesn’t budge. I can barely keep one arm pinned down.
Before the ogre can shake me off, the Class Representative’s spear reaches it.
She is aiming for its neck.
However, the ogre sacrifices its remaining arm to block it, but──she’s still able to pierce through that tough skin.
But what kind of nerve does it has… the ogre grabs the spear with the hand that was just pierced.
I can only be shocked by this. The Class Representative’s spear has pierced through its thick forearm, reaching not just the tip but even the shaft.
On the other side, the ogre lifted the Class Representative’s body along with the spear and slammed it into the ground.
It’s truly a monster.
I hurriedly jumped back, but… the impact is coming.
I barely realized that I was slammed against a nearby tree.
Neither I nor the Class Representative looks like we can get up right away.
The ogre picked up the battle axe with the arm that was pierced, swinging it back and forth to check how it felt.
”──Huh.”
Seeing that, I couldn’t help but ‘laugh’.
──In an instant, the ogre’s body froze, and an icy chill drifted over to me.
”Koushi, are you okay?”
My childhood friend peered into my face with a worried expression.
