Chapter 184 New Dungeon Exploration – Second Floor (Part 5️⃣)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The next morning, I left the room we used for camping and continued down the hallway.
We fought monsters several times along the way, and the encounter rate was higher than on the first floor. Luckily, we didn’t get ambushed like yesterday.
* * *
”The second floor is wider than the first floor, huh…”
During a break in a room where we took down 3 High Goblins for a light meal, Martina, who was drawing a map, muttered to herself.
”What’s that…?”
Liz walked over to Martina and peeked at the map.
”Big Sister Liz… it looks like the size is just about the same as the first floor laid out side by side.”
”It’s twice as wide… and thinking about where we are now──there should be a way down to the third floor soon.”
I took a look too. Seeing Martina’s ‘estimated size of the second floor,’ it really felt like there was a route to the third floor.
”It seems like we’ll see the way to the third floor soon!”
Liz stood up and called out to everyone. After their meal, everyone was checking their gear and turned their attention to Liz.
”Even though it’s a shallow floor, I think we’re getting tired both physically and mentally in this unknown dungeon. But let’s hang in there a little longer. Once we finish checking our gear, we’ll head out.”
Everyone nodded strongly and started packing their things.
* * *
”Is it up ahead…?”
Martina, leading the way down the hallway, signaled everyone to stop. By the way, Asuka and I switched places with Gorge and Gièze, thinking the floor boss would show up soon.
Looking where Martina pointed, I could see the entrance to a hall. There were no doors.
”I’ll go check it out.”
Martina took Noriss with her to scout the hall.
* * *
”I checked it out. It’s a really big hall. There’s a larger monster, a ‘2-headed snake.’ I’m not sure if it’s poisonous or not.”
Noriss nods in agreement with Martina’s report.
We quietly move to the entrance of the hall, following Martina, and peek inside.
It’s a big hall, and in the middle, there’s a coiled snake. It definitely has 2 heads. It looks like it’s about 10 meters long. Maybe it noticed us because──
──Ssssss…
It moves its body and raises both heads.
”Should I go with Hiroya? Let’s finish this quickly and find a way down.”
”Can you two do it?”
Asuka and I nod at Liz’s words.
”Then, we’ll attack with bows and magic. After that, Hiroya and Asuka, you go for that snake.”
”──It feels like that’s already decided.”
I can’t help but chuckle.
”Then let’s see who gets its head first, Hiroya.”
”…There are 2 heads, so if we take one each, it’ll be a tie.”
”I plan to take both!”
Asuka grins.
* * *
”Get ready… Fire!”
At Liz’s signal, we all shoot our arrows.
”Light Arrow!”
”Ice Arrow!”
”Flaming Arrow!”
Rena, Lotta, Kazumi, and Sister Karina each cast their magic.
The two-headed snake swats at the incoming arrows with its tail. But it can’t knock them all away, and several arrows pierce its body. Of course, all the magic arrows hit.
””Physical Boost!””
Asuka and I charge in. The two-headed snake is writhing. It’s probably already close to death.
Asuka, a step ahead of me, thrusts at one of the snake’s heads. A moment later, I draw ‘Yamikirimaru’ and slash at the other head.
But just a split second later, Asuka’s blade grazes the head I cut off.
”…So close. Timing-wise, I could have taken the other one too. Hiroya’s sword speed got me.”
”Isn’t it unfair to use ‘Physical Boost’ against a kid?”
”I don’t think of you as a kid.”
Asuka picks up a decent-sized magic stone. It’s a bit bigger than the high goblin’s.
”Good job!”
Liz calls out to her.
”We just finished it off, though. Well, with that much long-range attack, it didn’t stand a chance.”
At the back of this hall, there’s a cliff. Looking down, a dark void spreads out, and of course, you can’t see the bottom.
The other side of the cliff is lower, shaped like this hall. A staircase about 2 meters wide leads over there. It’s roughly 50 meters away.
”That side is the third floor…”
Dorothy looks down from the cliff.
”It would be bad if we got attacked while going down the stairs…”
Liz whispers next to Dorothy.
”I’ll go down first.”
Martina, who just finished unlocking a wooden box in the hall, steps forward.
”Martina, I’ll follow you.”
The stairs have no railing. They’re wide enough, but you have to be really careful going down.
”I’ll go too!”
Kazumi stands next to me and grabs my hand.
”…I’m scared without Hiroya…”
”Definitely don’t look down, okay?”
I follow behind Martina, who is leading the way.
* * *
”It’s okay!”
After reaching the bottom and checking that the third floor hall is safe, I call everyone from the second floor.
Kazumi and Sister Karina were just scared, but everyone else arrived here pretty smoothly.
We leave the hall and walk straight into a stone corridor. There’s a slightly bigger door on the left.
”The lock isn’t on… and there are no traps.”
Liz nods at Martina’s words. It seems to mean “open it.”
Martina nods back and opens the heavy-looking stone door──
* * *
”Looks like it’s a Safety Zone.”
It’s a room a bit bigger than a school classroom. It’s larger than the place Martina and I used before.
On the left side of the room, there are 6 simple beds set up, and on the opposite wall, there are 3 stone sinks with water trickling out from a pipe that stretches from the wall.
At the back of the room, there’s a small area separated by a cloth, which seems to be a toilet.
”Just right. Let’s set up the teleportation circle here.”
”This exploration ends here.”
”Yeah! Let’s all go home.”
Liz and Dorothy’s words about finishing the exploration made everyone relax.
”Ah! Everyone! ‘The adventure isn’t over until we get back to the village,’ so don’t let your guard down yet!”
Rena said this while taking out the scroll.
”Okay, everyone gather around.”
Everyone gathered around Rena.
”First of all, great job, everyone.”
Saying this, Rena spread out the scroll. Then we were wrapped in light and returned to the surface.
