I charged forward with my Battle Axe and canceled the dark bullet head-on. I quickly closed the distance and beheaded the demon.
I had to fight while protecting Mizui, so I felt a bit restricted in my movements. It felt like I had to push straight through to keep her safe. As a result, my fighting options were limited, but thanks to the Battle Axe, I wasn’t struggling too much.
”Wow~! Hyakudou, you’re really strong!”
Mizui watched my fight and praised me in a relaxed tone.
In her case, she could only use healing magic, so she was just standing there during the fight. It must be tough for her to rely on others to win.
”It’s thanks to you, Mizui. With your healing magic, I can fight a bit recklessly.”
I exaggerated a little to support her, but it wasn’t a complete lie. If I thought I could get healed later, I could fight more aggressively. That was a clear advantage.
”Thanks for looking out for me. I’ll try not to be a bother as much as I can.”
It seemed like she noticed I was choosing my words carefully. I’m not used to being considerate, so it always comes off a bit forced. I don’t want her to feel like a total burden, so I hope she doesn’t worry too much.
I want to be a smart guy who can show natural concern without trying too hard.
”By the way, what kind of magic do Takaizumi and the others have?”
I changed the topic to gather some information. Mizui answered without any suspicion.
”Shiroya has Holy Sword summoning magic, which can summon a hero’s Holy Sword that drives away evil. Masato has foresight magic, and he can predict the opponent’s actions 5 seconds ahead.”
A Holy Sword that’s effective against demons and foresight magic. Not bad, but I don’t think those abilities are that terrifying.
”Rio has water magic, and she can create floods or trap people in water.”
Tsurué Rio. From what I hear, her magic is the most troublesome. I can’t handle it well, and if it comes to a fight, I might have to call Mayuki or Hiiragi.
”In this situation, the 3 of them might already be dead. They could be controlled by Demonkind. Sorry, but be ready for that.”
Mizui and the others were a close group of 4. It’s hard to accept, but I’ll give a warning anyway.
”They were all stronger than me, so they should be fine.”
”I was thinking something similar, but Akatsuka is dead. About ten people have already died, and this island is a place where anyone could get killed.”
I scared Mizui a bit to challenge her optimism. I don’t want her to panic if something goes wrong. It sounds harsh, but she needs to be prepared.
”…Did you fight alone after Akatsuka disappeared?”
”No. I’m not alone, I’m living with Mayuki and the others.”
”I see. It must be tough. Surviving on an island with Demonkind suddenly appearing…”
”Not really. My magic can summon useful things for living, so I’m actually not struggling much.”
I bought a waist pouch and healing potions, then handed them to Mizui.
”… Can I really take this?”
”Healing magic doesn’t work on yourself, right? Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to get this back later.”
”Thank you. If there’s anything I can do, just let me know.”
Seriously? If I asked to grope those big breasts, would that be okay? If Takaizumi finds out, he might point a Holy Sword at me, and if he’s dead, maybe I’ll think about it…
”How did you guys manage to live?”
”We spent time in a cave, took turns keeping watch… It was actually kind of fun? We’ve done camping together a few times, so that experience helped. Also, Masato worked part-time at a fish shop, and he prepared fish we caught from the river…”
Oh, so they’ve been working hard on their survival life. If it weren’t for the Demonkind, that kind of life might actually be a bit fun. Starting a fire with flint, it seems like it would be exciting if everyone did it together. …At least for the first few days.
”I’m a bit proud to say, we even have a fridge at our base. I used my magic to get a shower, and it’s so comfy that it feels nothing like survival life.”
”That’s nice~, Hyakudou… I haven’t taken a bath in days… I’ve just been washing with water.”
”If you fully cooperate with us, I’d be happy to share. How about we split the loot 80-20?”
”Ugh… I’ll talk to everyone when I see them.”
I felt like I was doing some business.
The ‘Base Magic’ business seems like it could make a good profit.

While looking for Takaizumi and the others, I hunted down some Demonkind.
After finishing off the nearby Demonkind, I returned to Mizui, and she was sitting on the ground.
”Are you okay? What happened?”
”Just now, I made eye contact with a Demonkind… and I couldn’t move.”
Was she controlled or tempted?
There were only weak demons around, so it shouldn’t have had that much effect… but she looks troubled. Her flushed face and heavy breathing made her seem more alluring.
”What about a healing potion?”
”I can’t move my body… and my head feels fuzzy.”
I opened Mizui’s pouch and took out a healing potion, and she hugged me. …She’s so soft. A tougher opponent than the demons.
”Hey. Didn’t you say you couldn’t move?”
”Yeah. I might not be able to move anymore.”
Mizui wouldn’t let go.
I could just go ahead and do something, but… I don’t want to be the guy who steals someone else’s girl.
”Takaizumi will be sad.”
”But we’re not dating, right? Shiroya and Rio are practically a couple. Masato likes Rio too, and I’m just left out.”
”No way, Takaizumi is definitely aiming for you, Mizui. Didn’t you notice?”
He looked way happier talking to Mizui than when he was with Tsurué. I think all the guys noticed it. The 4 of them had talked about their love square a lot. Since Mizui didn’t seem that into romance, it felt more like a straight line than a square.
Tadahara Masato → Tsurué Rio → Takaizumi Shiroya → Mizui Yuuri.
If Mizui had her arrow pointing at Tadahara, it would’ve been a love square, but she seems to care more about friendship than romance, so those talks didn’t get too exciting.
”Eh. I think it just looks that way because we’re friends, right? I don’t really see Shiroya as a guy…”
She is totally not interested at Takaizumi. If he’s alive, I’ll treat him to a meal.
”So you don’t have to worry about it, okay?”
”No, I do worry. It’s not like you like me or anything. It’s probably that ‘Eros Magic’ or whatever, so just drink a recovery potion for now.”
”But right now, I feel really good. If Hyakudou feeds me with his mouth… I might consider it?”
Mizui pressed her chest against me, eyes closed.
”──Mizui! I’m so glad you’re okay. I was looking for you…”
At the worst possible moment, Takaizumi rushed in.
I froze, Takaizumi looked stunned, and Mizui was hugging me with a face waiting for a kiss…
