Volume 2 Chapter 11 Mating Possible

”So… what was the story about Sir Tethyrkan?”

After finishing up with Melon, Ms. Akari asked me as I entered the bedroom.

”Yeah, about that… it seems that breeding between Elves and humans has been confirmed.”

”Breeding? You mean a baby was made between an Elf and a human?”

I reply, “Yeah. It was recently discovered that a romance blossomed between an Elf from the Border Defense Force stationed at this manor and a human woman from this town, and she got pregnant. So now, both of them are with Sir Tethyrkan.”

”Wait, but that means they must have loved each other to have a child, right? That’s a happy thing, so it shouldn’t be something to worry about…”

”Well, that’s true, but according to Sir Tethyrkan, there are no precedents for this. Aside from their appearances, we don’t know what kind of abilities or traits the child might have, or if it can even grow up properly.”

I explained her concerns and unknowns about the situation. Then, I continued.

”There are so many unknowns, and he asked for advice on how to communicate this to the public. There have been mixed-bloods between Elves and demons before, known as Dark Elves… you know, like Ms. Sharlin.”

”I see. It would definitely be bad if there were strange prejudices or discrimination, but if it’s a baby born from 2 people who love each other, I hope it can be born and grow up well.”

”I think so too, so I suggested that we be careful not to let any harm come to the parents and to prepare for a safe delivery.”

”I get it. But… what about between humans and Beastfolk? We didn’t hold back because of PurPur or EllEll, but something felt off, and you couldn’t have another child after Karin…”

”Yeah, I wonder. If I was having s*x with Puruun every night, would we have had a child together…?”

 ”Yuuta, you idiot!!”

The next morning. I’m heading to work with Melon.

My office is right next to the lord’s residence, and I usually work like the town mayor and police chief.

This time, a single-story research building and accommodations for the mages are being constructed nearby for Melon and the other ten alchemists, but since space is tight, it seems Melon intended to stay with us from the start.

There’s also a cooperative workshop for dwarves and humans nearby, so it should be easier for Melon and the others to work.

 Karin has school today.

There’s a primary school within the enclave where human and dwarf children can freely attend.

That said, most of the human children were born after the humans moved to this enclave, so while they are cute little siblings to Karin, it’s easy to imagine that she feels lonely without friends her own age.

So, it seems somewhat understandable that Karin is drawn to Sir Aaron.

Having been stripped of royal status and made a viscount, he spent about 5 years in a detention center before being dispatched as the lord of this town.

However, he no longer gives off the glimmering ambition or suspicion he had when he was in the Royal Capital; instead, he’s a clean, gentle, and handsome young man.

I think any woman who doesn’t know about his past deeds would easily fall for him.

And it seems he truly has changed his heart and is considering us humans.

”What’s up, Yuuta? Is there something on my face?”

During the regular meeting, I was lost in thought, admiring Sir Aaron, when he pointed that out.

”Oh, no. I apologize. Your face is just so beautiful…”

”Huh? That’s creepy. I’m not happy to be complimented by you.”

 ”Hahaha… I’m flattered.”

After the regular meeting ended, I was about to head back to my office when Sir Aaron called me over and I entered his office.

”Yuuta. What did Tethyrkan say about that mixed-blood child?”

”Yeah. The day before yesterday, we met and talked, and since it’s a precious love child, we agreed to cherish it together as a family.”

”I see. That sounds good. But still, can an Elf and a human even have a child… If I had known that, maybe I should have made a pact with Akari back then.”

”Uh, um, Sir Aaron. Please stop joking around!!”

”Haha, it’s fine. Just kidding. But… Karin really is starting to look like Akari.”

”Um, about that… she’s still a child. Please don’t take her words at face value.”

”Don’t worry. I understand that. But if that child still likes me when she becomes an adult… it does stir something in my heart.”

”Well… I won’t interfere with what happens after she becomes an adult, but… Sir Aaron, are you really not considering welcoming a proper wife yet?”

”…I don’t know. Maybe being ousted as king has cleared my mind, but I really don’t feel that way at all. Back then, I was so desperate to make Asuka my wife; I don’t even understand why I was in such a rush. Maybe I still have feelings for Akari.”

 ”I said──.”

”Okay, okay. Don’t worry. Your eyes are black, so I won’t do anything.”

 ”Please, really.”

Though I initially hated Aaron, the former king, for abducting Ms. Akari and Karin, we’ve gotten to know each other while working together, and now we can joke around like old friends.

I feel like there’s some mutual trust between us as well. Time really does change people.

”So, Yuuta. This came from the Royal Capital. It’s a letter directly from Her Majesty. I thought it might be a love letter, so I haven’t looked inside yet.”

Sir Aaron said, laughing as he handed me a letter.

”From Her Majesty Asuka? I wonder what it could be. Is it about the mage unit this time?”

Even while saying that, I was imagining what I would do if it really was a love letter as I opened the seal. I looked through the contents, and oh, this is….

”What’s wrong? You look surprised. Did it really say you should meet up?”

 Sir Aaron said teasingly.

”Haha… no, it’s not that. It seems that 2 people can now cross over through the gate. She wants to discuss future matters, so she’s asking if I could come to the Royal Capital.”

Ten years ago, I, along with Ms. Akari, Karin, and Ms. Akari’s daughter, my ex-girlfriend Tomori, aimed for the gate located underground in the Royal Palace to return to our world, and somehow we managed to get there.

However, the amount of mana on the other side became an issue, and we found out that only 2 people could return at that point, so Tomori and Ellulu crossed over to the human world.

The gate engineer, Sistemador, had said it would take 5 to ten years before they could send someone again, but it seems that’s exactly what happened.

”I see. Two people in ten years. Well, I guess it’s as Sistemador predicted. But with just 2 people, we can’t all go home together as a family. If they want to discuss things without waiting for the 3 of us… Asuka must be up to something.”

Sir Aaron might be right. Well, it’s a bit daunting to use such a large national budget for research just for a simple homecoming.

”That’s true. But since it’s a summons from Her Majesty the Queen herself, I can’t just not go.”

”Yeah, but maybe you can leave after the founding festival at the end of the month? It wouldn’t be a festival without you.”

Sir Aaron said, referring to the festival celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Kashiwagi Manor.

And it’s not just a festive occasion; it’s also a presentation of our manor’s achievements over the past year.

Well, in scale, it might not be that different from a high school cultural festival’s club presentations, but I look forward to it every year.

The people living in the manor have formed guilds based on their individual specialties, such as farming, civil engineering, electrical technology, cooking, and sewing.

They gather and share their skills and techniques with the dwarves every day.

The founding festival is also a showcase for each guild’s achievements, and everyone puts in a lot of effort to present every year.

One thing that has been really helpful is the human language dictionary created by Mr. Panarail and Ms. Akari.

Although it’s still a bit thin in content, it was published 5 years ago to coincide with the establishment of the manor, and it has greatly contributed to communication between humans and elves and dwarves.

That said, once I set off for the Royal Capital, I’ll be away from home for at least 6 months, including the round trip.

That’s a bit concerning, but fortunately or unfortunately, Melon is coming to stay with us for about a year, so I thought it might help ease the loneliness a bit.

I shared this with my family.

”Well, it can’t be helped if it’s Queen Aaa-aaa’s summons. It’s not like my husband is around all the time anyway… Karin can manage, right?”

Ms. Akari said with a hint of resignation, but Karin was clearly unhappy. Melon also looked displeased.

”I came all the way here, and now Yuuta is going to the Royal Capital just as I arrive… The queen can be pretty mean, you know. But the gate issue is important for both Yuuta and Mama Akari. So, Karin, it looks like it’ll just be you, this big sister, and Mama holding down the fort again.”

Years ago, I and Puruun went ahead from Tokura Village to the Royal Capital, while Ms. Akari and Melon stayed behind in the village for a year. During that time, Karin was born.

”Ugh, I don’t remember anything from that long ago.”

 Karin complained.

”Oh really? Is it okay for you to say that? I was the one changing your diapers, washing them… I can’t even count how many times I’ve had my fingers stuck in your poop…”

”Whoa, what are you saying, Big Sister Melon!? I-I don’t need a diaper change anymore!”

”Right? So let’s make sure to stay home together. Once you get the hang of using the gate, you might even get to meet Big Sister Tomori someday.”

”Ah… I hope I can meet Big Sister Tomori someday.”

 ”Yeah…”

Saying that, I patted Karin’s head.

I heard from Ellulu that Tomori got a boyfriend in that other world.

And apparently, it’s Mr. Gregory’s younger brother.

Isn’t fate a strange thing? Plus, when that guy Stanford suddenly came out of the gate, it was a huge commotion…

Haha, I wonder what he’s up to now.

It seems like Karin is on board, so after the founding festival, I started getting ready to head to the Royal Capital.
