Chapter 219 Mother and Child

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 (Hiroya’s POV)

”You really talked it out, huh?”

In the early afternoon, Kazumi and I went back home and confessed to our parents. We told them about having memories from our past lives, how our past-life dad and mom looked and acted just like our current ones, and shared what we had discussed with everyone in the clan.

”Dad had noticed a lot of things, huh?”

”Well, I know someone in a similar situation…”

 ”That’s about Van, right?”

Huh? Didn’t Mom not know about that?

”Is that really surprising? Van was a bit naive about the world… he used to say some pretty confusing stuff. He always talked about how it made sense if you thought of Milia as ‘someone from another world,’ you know?”

Mom laughed lightly, looking at Dad, who was frozen in surprise.

”I understood Hiroya’s story because I know about those kinds of precedents too.”

For a moment, Mom had a distant look in her eyes.

 (──No, that’s not it… Mom… it’s because you’ve ‘experienced it yourself,’ right?)

”What I can say is… no matter the circumstances, you are still Dad and Mom’s son. And like Van said… it’s better not to use that ‘power’ as much as possible. Also…”

 Dad smiled at me.

”You’re worried about Kazumi, right? I’ve explained things to Lord Müller, so there shouldn’t be any reason to panic.”

”About Kazumi and me being reincarnators?”

”Yeah. I did say it was likely, though.”

”Kazumi… has the heart of a 29-year-old… just like me, huh? I might end up treating her more like a friend than a wife.”

 Mom smiled happily at that.

”Oh, right. How about that ‘sparring’ you mentioned someday?”

I suggested that to Mom. ──To confirm whether the mom in front of me is the same as my past-life mom.

 ”That sounds great, Hiroya.”

”Then, I’m’ going out to talk to Lord Müller.”

Dad stands up after saying that. “Don’t do anything reckless, okay?” he calls out to Mom.

”I’m not happy that there’s no greatsword the same size as my favorite.”

While saying that, Mom readies a long wooden sword that’s about my height.

”Me too, it’s not my usual Bokken sword.”

I pick up a wooden sword that’s similar in length to my favorite Bokken sword and position it at my left hip.

”I hear Hiroya is fast… should I go first?”

With a smile, Mom raises the wooden sword high.

(I have to use the power I got from Dad over there…)

After feeling that ‘gentle warmth in my heart’ when I first saw the Doll’s soul, Mom comes at me.

Her real figure overlaps with the image of her swinging down the wooden sword from above.

 (Am I able to predict Mom’s movements…?)

Trusting that image, I try to dodge by leaning my body to the side just in time.

Right after, the wooden sword swings down close enough that I can feel the pressure of it.

 ”──!”

Mom can’t hide her surprise. But immediately, she imagines swinging the wooden sword horizontally at me.

I draw my sword from my left hip, deflect her horizontal swing, and then thrust right at her throat, barely grazing the left side of her neck with my strike.

”──I give up. You’re amazing, Hiroya.”

”Well, that’s because it’s the invincible ‘Obu Muso Style’.”

Hearing my mumble, Mom is shocked again.

 ”No way──Hiroya… is that you?”

”Yeah. I won because I cheated with the ‘power’ I got from Dad over there.”

 (Megumi’s POV)

 After hearing Hiroya’s confession,

 (I thought so…)

I mean, ever since I witnessed this kid’s ‘log-slicing’ technique and saw the cut.

(This technique is the Obu Muso Style… the swordsmanship that my precious husband and son mastered.)

And now, actually ‘sparring’ like this, I’m convinced. The same movements as ‘that person’ I could never beat before. It feels like my movements are completely ‘predicted.’

Before I knew it, tears were overflowing and wouldn’t stop.

 ”Hiroya… Hiroya…”

I hug my young child. My treasure, from that important person and me…

 (Hiroya’s POV)

”Got it… So Mr. Shinshi ended up all alone, huh…”

”Yeah. I really feel bad about it… When I apologized, he told me, ‘You need to live well in that world’.”

”You got to meet your dad over there while you were sleeping. ──That’s nice…”

We both sat down and talked. Then Mom looked up at the sky and smiled.

”…I’m sorry, Hiroya… You were still so little, and I left you and your dad behind…”

”It’s okay. It was just the role you had to take on.”

Mom said she had been a ‘hero’ companion in various worlds until then. And in what was supposed to be the last ‘other world,’ she ended up with the dad she fell in love with.

”This world seems to be close to that other world, so I tried really hard to find a way back…”

Even for Mom, who had traveled through many worlds, it was the first time she encountered so many people who looked like someone she knew in such a ‘different world.’ It was probably a dimensionally close world. She had been desperately searching for a way back.

”I was prepared for not being able to return, but… when it actually happened, I felt despair. But the fact that ‘Mr. Shinji’ was here in this world was truly a relief. When we were together and you were born… I was really happy. You looked just like ‘Hiroya’ that I gave birth to in the other world. ──Oh, I see… You died in a car accident and came back to Mom’s belly again.”

 Mom lovingly stroked my head.

”I’m really happy to see you again, Mom, who I thought was dead.”

 ”Was Mr. Shinshi doing well?”

”Well, since my consciousness synced with Dad on the day I died… he didn’t look very well.”

 ”I see… That makes sense…”

 ”But you know…”

I reached out and patted Mom’s head.

”Dad was crying. ──The succubus Doll who came to bring me back told me that.”

”The succubus Doll… Now that you mention it, I think there was one like that near Azradelius… Is she okay?”

 ”Yeah. She’s a good person.”

I smiled back at Mom, who looked worried.

”That Doll said… Dad was crying, saying, ‘Even in that world, he chose to be with me’.”

I stroked her head gently, and she pulled my hand to her chest and cried loudly.

* * *

”I told Mr. Shinji about it. I told him that I left important people behind in the world I came from. And he said to me, ‘Even if it’s as a substitute for that person, won’t you love me?’ Isn’t he cool?”

After she stopped crying, she started gushing about Mr. Shinji.

”At first, I did think of him as a replacement for Mr. Shinshi. But… I really do like Mr. Shinji too.”

Her eyes, still glistening with tears, sparkled.

”But I also love Mr. Shinshi so much… I miss him…”

She looked at me with a mischievous smile and continued.

”You’d understand, Hiroya, with all your lovers. You know how I feel, right?”

 ”Ugh…!”

”But… so you and Kazumie were fated to be together in your past life. That’s so romantic.”

”Maybe. But I’m really glad we became lovers in this world.”

”Take good care of Kazumie, okay?”

 ”Yes.”

 ”And everyone else too.”

 ”W-will do.”

As usual, she ruffled my hair after hearing my reply.

”You’re just like Mr. Shinshi and Mr. Shinji, so popular with everyone.”

This woman, with her dazzling smile, is my precious and only mother.
