Volume 1 Chapter 18 Margrave Heido And The Identification Card
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Tch, you look weak, but you’ve got some guts, huh? So you really are the kind of guy who caught Miriallia’s eye.”
”Uncle Arbalest, that’s terrible!! I won’t forgive you!”
Milly pulled out a hidden weapon from her chest and threw it at Arbalest. He deflected it just before it hit him.
”Milly! Are you trying to kill your uncle?!”
”Ugh! That’s why I didn’t want to come here!”
Huh? What? Uncle? Is Milly related to him? My head was spinning.
”So, I thought I’d teach a lesson to the guy who seduced my cute niece, but I almost got killed by her instead. But surprisingly, he’s a tough guy.”
Margrave Heido reached out for a handshake.
”No, that’s not true. I was just too scared to move. Milly, it’s okay.”
I shook his hand, but my legs were shaking.
”By the way, the story about Milly being the ‘Demon Lord’s Bride’ is just a joke, right?”
I asked Margrave Heido what I was curious about.
”No, that’s the real deal. The current Demon Lord, Shifa, got rejected by Milly.”
”Uncle!! Don’t say weird things about Kent! He’s my master!!”
”So, that means the owner of the ‘Nightmare Beast Black Dagger’ is the Demon Lord, right?”
”You’re quick to understand. Well, it’s not something to worry about. The Demon Lord has taken a bride now.”
”I was just a former candidate for the ‘Demon Lord’s Bride.’ So, it’s nothing with the Demon Lord! Please believe me! It’s true! Kent!”
I was taken aback by Milly casually saying something so amazing. I thought she was a VIP, but she’s not just that. She’s a super VIP! Being the Demon Lord’s bride means she’s a candidate for royalty, right? Is it really okay for someone like her to be with me?
”Kent… I was happy to hear what you said earlier…”
Milly blushed shyly.
”Yeah, I just said what I felt.”
It seems like she’s okay with me.
”Let’s try harder. At least enough to stand next to her…”
”Ahem! So, today’s purpose for coming to the castle is to issue Kent’s ID. Very well, I will personally issue the ID as the guarantor.”
”Huh? Milly is fine, but… I can’t decline, can I?”
I glanced at Milly, but she shook her head. I was taken to a room inside the castle by Margrave Heido. The room had no windows, completely shutting out any outside light, making it dim. However, the faint light emitted from the patterns on the floor allowed me to see faces clearly.
”Now, we will begin the registration ceremony.”
Margrave Heido placed his hand on a black stone pillar in the center of the room and declared this. The black stone pillar started to glow green, projecting a screen similar to a menu inside the room.
”Kent, touch this authentication stone (Job Check).”
When I touched the pillar, my image was captured and displayed on the screen. It showed a status check similar to what I had seen before. Kent, Majin, 15 years old.
(Combat Job) None
(General Job) None
It seemed to only show the job in a simplified display.
”W-What? It’s broken! There’s no way I’m ‘unemployed’ (no job)!”
”Uncle Arbalest, it seems Kent is a ‘lost person’ (mayoi bito).”
Hearing Milly’s words, Heido gasped in surprise.
”What! So that’s why he’s unemployed (no job), someone who is outside the laws of this world?”
”Margrave Heido, I have decided to live in this land. So this world is ‘reality’ (real) for me.”
I will become a resident of this world. I believe obtaining this ID is a ritual for that purpose.
”To live in this land as an outsider… I admire your spirit! I, Arbalest Heido, officially recognize this person as a resident of this land!”
The authentication stone emitted a strong light, filling the room. Eventually, when the light settled, a business card-like card was placed on the stone. Seeing the card, Milly looked surprised.
”Oh, a red card…”
Let me know if you need anything else! I wonder what it is? Was there something wrong with the procedure? Is being ‘unemployed’ a no-go in Another World too? I really want a public identity to get a job.
”Oh, it’s red… I’ve never seen that before.”
”It’s okay, Uncle. I’m in the same boat.”
Both of them leaned in close, looking thoughtful.
”Um… is there something wrong with the color red?”
In response, Margrave Heido, also known as Arbalest, grabbed my shoulder.
”Hey, you… it’s red! Unlimited job acquisition!”
After that, they explained that the ID cards are divided into 5 colors: [black], [green], [blue], [purple], and [red]. The number of jobs one can have is limited by the card’s color: [black] 3, [green] 6, [blue] 12, [purple] 24, [red] ∞. The [red] card is extremely rare, and since the holder tried to acquire multiple jobs without hitting a limit, it was deemed infinite.
In this Grimoire, having more jobs boosts your stats, so a person with many jobs is seen as having high basic abilities. What a cheat-like feeling. However, if you can’t acquire jobs, even with a [red] card, you could still lose to someone with a [black] card who has jobs. So, effort is necessary.
About 70% of people have [black], over 20% have [green] or [blue], less than 10% have [purple], and [red] is extremely rare. Currently, the only [red] holders in the kingdom are True Demon Clayd and Black Dragon King Fabulanova. So, it’s super rare.
”My assessment was spot on. As your owner (master).”
”I don’t really feel that way.”
After all, I’m still ‘unemployed.’ As I reach out to grab a card, it gets sucked into my hand.
”Oh wow! The card!”
I’m flustered.
”Don’t worry, just focus… see? It came out.”
A card is floating on Milly’s palm. It’s [purple]. Milly, you’re also kind of cheat-like… I try to focus on getting a card too. It worked! The red card I saw earlier is now floating on my palm. This is definitely a fantasy world.
”With this, the registration ceremony is complete.”
Arbalest declared firmly. Then, the log window suddenly expanded on its own. I was startled by the change, but I checked the log.
──You have registered as a resident of [Demon Lord’s Country].
──You have obtained the job [Citizen].
──You have gained 1 skill point.
──Job bonus: Slight increase in health.
Hmm! So I got a job. I also got a skill point for the first time, even if it’s just 1 point. I quickly opened the status screen. The color of the status window had changed to red. It seems to be linked to the card.
