Rising Monk V1c35-3

Volume 1 Chapter 35 Quest: Not Just My Brother II

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

On the way back, the 3 of them were silent.

John wore a dazed expression, while Serena stood right next to Kian, giving him a piercing glare.

Of course, Kian, who had no intention of explaining his abilities to Serena, remained quiet, pretending to be busy assisting John.

As they neared the exit of the forest, Kian finally opened his mouth to offer some words of encouragement to Serena.

”Serena, you did well. That was an impressive display of skill.”

”Is this your way of mocking me? I’m just a mere swordswoman, after all.”

”Why would you think that? I’m genuinely complimenting you. You’re an exceptional vanguard, Serena. Your situational awareness and sword skills are top-notch. I’m confident that we’ve acquired one of the strongest assets this town has to offer. I’m grateful for your help.”

”You really think so… That’s comforting to hear, but I can’t help but feel a little conflicted after witnessing your true power. It’s hard to fully appreciate the praise.”

’This girl sure has a complicated personality,’ Kian thought to himself with a playful smile.

 ”I find that complexity charming.”

 ”Huh?”

”Hey, don’t go confessing your feelings in front of a heartbroken guy like me.”

”It’s not quite a confession, but I guess it’s my way of showing interest as a man. I find Serena quite attractive.”

 ”You… You’re such a flirt.”

Serena said, her face now a picture of bewilderment.

”I’m just being honest about my feelings. I find you charming, so I said as much.”

 ”N-No! Stop it!”

Serena exclaimed, her body trembling slightly. Despite her words, her cheeks flushed, and she rubbed her thighs together, a subtle sign of her body’s reaction to the night’s training.

The effects of the training were beginning to show, even though it had only been 4 days.

The subtle discomfort she felt was a testament to its effectiveness.

(I wonder how she’ll be in another ten days…)

Kian’s eyes gleamed with anticipation as he imagined the future.

Serena, unaware of the mischievous grin on the face of the perverted priest, was examining her own reaction, surprised by her body’s response.

 ”Ah! That jerk, my brother…”

As they emerged from the forest, the large man gripping Kian’s shoulder ground his teeth and glared at the entrance of the training ground.

There stood a guard with a mustache, the client, talking to a woman Kian didn’t recognize.

She was a young woman dressed in clothes reminiscent of a tavern server, much like Esther.

John turned to look at the woman, his face turning even redder.

”Matilda…! Damn it, I’ve been taking care of you all this time, and you switched to my brother!”

’So, both Matilda and the brother’s guard were trying to kill John, huh?’

(John had received the request from Matilda. It was Matilda who first tried to kill her brother, and the brother didn’t stop John from heading into danger. In fact, he probably thought it would be better if John went to the ‘Spoon Wing’ nest and died. This could be seen as intent to kill through negligence. It’s unclear if the two were conspiring together.)

As the 3 approached the training ground, a couple who had been chatting happily turned to Kian and the others, their faces filled with surprise.

The woman exclaimed, “John…! Why, how are you alive!?” in a voice close to a scream.

 John spat as he replied.

”Sorry to hear that, you bastards!”

”J-John, I thought you were dead!”

”I was almost dead, you damn brother! If I hadn’t rolled down that slope, I would’ve been sucked dry by the ‘Spoon Wing’!”

”John! This is different! I didn’t know the mushroom hunting spot was the ‘Spoon Wing’ nest!”

”Shut up! You thought you could come to me for money just because the tavern business was tough! I know what you’re up to! Damn it… You got too deep into that place just because it felt good! Only your dick should be getting deep!”

At John’s angry outburst, Serena blushed and cleared her throat.

It seemed she wasn’t fond of crude jokes.

(Haha, I’ll make you love them eventually.)

 ’Poor thing…’

John was furious, while the brother’s guard looked confused.

After hesitating about what to do, the guard turned his anger toward Kian.

”Hey, you! You garbage scavenger! This is not what we agreed on! Why is the little brother still alive?!”

”I was asked to retrieve the younger brother’s belongings and bring back a part of his remains. It became a bit of a heavy load, but I brought back the clothes he was wearing and everything from his head to his toes.”

”Don’t-mess-with-me! This guy is not just a part of the body, he’s the whole thing, and he’s alive and kicking!”

”Is it a problem that I’m alive? Hey, Matilda, you should say something too! You slutty whore!”

Matilda, the barmaid who had been called a whore, finally seemed to have her temper flare up.

”Shut up! I appreciate that you spent a lot of money at the bar, but I was sick of your rough s*x! It wasn’t enjoyable at all, and you tried to make me lick your ass every time!”

”Huh? You were the one who happily licked it!”

”Hey, Matilda, you licked John’s ass…with that cute tongue of yours…”

”I was forced to do it! Believe me!”

”Not only that, but you swallow my d*ck with your p**sy and shout, ‘I’m a s*x slave~’ with a stupid face! You definitely enjoyed it!”

”That was because you gave me an enema with a bottle of distilled liquor, and I was out of my mind!”

 ”Enema…?”

The guard, now wide-eyed at the revelation of their abnormal s*xual activities, was about to engage in a lengthy conversation, but Kian patted him on the shoulder and handed him the Guild’s evaluation form.

”Fill this out before you start a fistfight.”

”Huh?! Don’t mess with me! This is getting the lowest rating, E!”

”You can’t give an E rating just because the brother is alive. It’s fine if you want to write something incomprehensible, but you’re a guard working at the training ground of the Adventurer’s Guild. You get your salary from the country, right? I think it’s better not to be labeled as a nuisance to the Adventurer’s Guild.”

Kian paused for a moment and gestured to the surrounding crowd.

”You have many witnesses here, including your comrades…”

 ”Guh…”

The guard, now aware of the onlookers around them, turned pale as if he had been doused with cold water.

He turned red and blue with anger and anxiety as he scribbled on the evaluation sheet.

”B rating? Come on, I need a fair assessment!”

”Ugh, I know! Damn it! You should just die being sucked dry by ‘Spoon Wing’!”

The guard shouted angrily, shaking his mustache, and threw the paper back at Kian.

 ”Let’s go, Kian.”

Serena called out, looking at the 3 of them with disdain as they started arguing again.

”Yeah, well, at least we finished one. Two more to go to reach our goal.”

 ”Next is… ‘Labyrinth of Roses’?”

Serena pulled out a copy of the request and asked.

 Kian nodded.

”Yeah, it’s a maze where it rains all year round, filled with black roses. Apparently, there’s an ancient Countess’s mansion at the very end. The task is to go treasure hunting there.”

”But no one has ever made it through the maze, right?”

”Yeah. The maze is tough, and even trying to blow up the rose walls with explosives doesn’t work. I think there’s some secret in the rose garden. For now, let’s go investigate it first, and then we can think about what to do next.”

 ”Hmm, got it. Starting tomorrow?”

”No, early the day after tomorrow. The quest ended faster than we expected, so we have some time. We could even take a day to recover.”

”I’m not tired at all, though.”

”Don’t rush. There’s no need to hurry.”

 ”That’s true.”

Nodding, Serena began walking toward the river in front of the eastern gate.

 ”Where are you going?”

”To wash off. I got splattered with blood. You can head back first.”

 ”Got it.”

 ’Are you peeking?’

(I’m not a pervert. I won’t do anything to lower my likability for no reason.)

Kian replied to the glasses’ words and raised his hand.

 ”See you, Serena.”

”Yeah, see you the day after tomorrow.”

Serena said that and turned away, walking off.

Kian, left behind, started crossing the drawbridge that led to the town.

(Thinking about it, I’ve been so focused on taming crows and bats that I haven’t returned to ‘The Boar’s Trot Inn’ in days. Maybe it’s time to rest in a bed again.)

’That’s fine. But first, I need to collect my reward at the Guild.’

(He had to deliver the evaluation sheet anyway, and he was planning to stop by the Guild regardless.)

As he thought this, Kian presented his adventurer’s certificate to the guard at the gate.

Beyond the gate, the East End street was bustling with people in the evening.
