Volume 1 Chapter 29 Hunter Training School

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

With Feria’s guidance, we moved to the reception counter.

The person handling the counter was a young man with a tough-looking face.

”Welcome. How can I help you?”

 Oh, what a cute voice…

I’m taken aback by the gap between his looks and his voice.

I had forgotten I was using ‘Illusion Glasses.’ The urge to remove them and see his face grew, but I gathered my self-control and decided to ask about the details of the Hunter Training School.

”I’d like to join the Hunter Training School, so I’d like to proceed with the application process.”

”Okay, so how do we choose a course? We have 5 options: ‘Warrior’, ‘Swordsman’, ‘Scout’, ‘Hunter’, and ‘Gunslinger’.”

”It’s impossible to choose them all at once, right…?”

 The man’s face showed confusion.

”Uh, well. As a rule, each person can only choose one course. After you obtain a job, you can choose a different course, but that will cost extra.”

”So, how long does it take to get a job?”

”The shortest time is one day, but on average, it takes about 3 days.”

Three days? Since I have no foundation at all, it might take me a bit longer.

”Can you really get a combat job in 3 days?”

Hearing Feria’s comment, a blue vein appeared on the man’s forehead.

”Feria! You were trained in front desk duties too, right?”

”Well, that was a while ago, and I’ve mostly been in the hall lately, so I forgot!”

The man was holding his head in frustration.

”I wonder if I should get a combat job too. Mr. Kent, do you prefer a fighting Maid?”

Feria getting a combat job… that could be tempting.

If she wore a bikini armor as a Warrior, I might just attack her from behind.

”Uh, um. Just in case, why don’t you take one too, Feria?”

”Okay, I think I will. I’ll choose the same course as Mr. Kent!”

Was her decision quick, or was she not thinking much? Feria’s immediate response made me panic.

”Are you sure you want to be with me? There are a lot of options.”

”I’m fine being with Mr. Kent, yay!”

Suddenly, Feria let out a sound.

It seemed like Lina was groping her from behind.

 ”Hey, stop flirting over there!”

I looked and saw Milly and the others standing behind us.

”So, which course is Kent going to choose?”

 I was still unsure.

”Isn’t Warrior the one that boosts stamina the most?”

”Yes, for the lower jobs. You can also use heavy equipment, and it’s the toughest, so should we go with Warrior as the main?”

If I boost my stamina as a Warrior, I thought I could at least handle things if something happened.

”Alright, I’ll enroll in the Warrior course. Is it okay if Feria joins me?”

I told the man at the front desk my decision to enroll.

”I will also enroll in the same Warrior course as Sir Kent.”

Annabella, who had been quietly observing until now, suddenly declares this.

”Huh? Annabella too? In the Warrior course?”

”Yes, since I’ll be taking care of things during training, I thought I might take up a combat role to protect Sir Kent in case of an emergency.”

Annabella… she’s really thinking about me that much…

I feel like if I get into trouble, she might just take down the enemies with some crazy weapon, thinking, ‘I knew this might happen.’.

”Alright, Sir Kent, Lady Annabella, and Feria will enroll in the Warrior course. Since this is your first time in a combat role, the enrollment fee is free.”

The man confirms. Oh, free. That sounds great.

 ”Yes, let’s go with that.”

”Then, I’ll handle the paperwork, so please fill out your name, age, and race on this form.”

The man hands over a piece of paper for the enrollment application.

”Once you graduate from the training school, you will automatically be registered as a Hunter. Also, please note that ‘HR (Hunter Rank)’ will be added to your ID.”

HR (Hunter Rank), huh? Milly had a 200.

 ”Okay, I understand.”

”The paperwork is all good. You can start tomorrow morning, so please come here. Feria, you can take a break starting tomorrow, right?”

The man asks Feria if she’s applying for leave.

”No, that’s not it! I’m actually going to be working as a Maid for the Blackdagger family starting tomorrow, so I’ll be resigning.”

Whoa! That’s so casual! That’s not something you say lightly! As someone with work experience, that’s not how you handle it.

You should properly inform them of your resignation in advance… and train your replacement before leaving.

It’s not just a part-time job… or is it kind of like one?

 The man’s face darkens.

”What do you mean by that, Lady Miriallia?”

 The man looks at Milly.

 ”Uh, um… well…”

As Milly struggles to respond, Annabella steps in to answer.

”I want to recruit Ms. Feria as a maid for my household, so I headhunted her. If necessary, I’m also willing to pay a transfer fee…”

 The man looked troubled.

”That’s a problem. If she’s suddenly poached… I’d understand if it was for the Blackdagger family, but I’d have to find a replacement… And you’re asking about a transfer fee?”

The man’s expression changed as if he had an idea.

”Well then, instead of a transfer fee, could Lady Miriallia complete a quest for me? I have a rather troublesome one on my hands.”

”Hmm, it’s troublesome? I can’t be held up for too long, I have to take care of Kent.”

”The duration won’t be that long. It’s not a quest befitting an S-rank adventurer like Lady Miriallia, but it’s a low-paying one that has been left unattended…”

 ”What’s the quest about?”

”Yes, a nearby village of Abyss Goblin species near the Abyss Gate has turned into a monster nest, and we need it to be exterminated. There are approximately 500 of them. The reward is one gold coin.”

”It’s indeed troublesome and not worth the effort. Those Abyss Goblins are such a nuisance…”

As Milly discussed the job with the man, we stood by and watched.

 ”Will you accept it?”

”I’d rather not, but what will happen if I don’t?”

”I’m afraid we’ll have to decline your enrollment at the training school.”

”I’ll give up if Milly doesn’t want to.”

Milly looked at me, deep in thought.

”Fine, I’ll take it. Prepare a map with the location marked. I’ll finish it in 3 days. Lina, you’ll help too.”

”Eh, Elder Sister, me too? But I have to take care of Kent’s… needs…”

Milly picked up Lina and held her under her arm.

”Kent, I’ll be back in 3 days, so make sure to take care of your… duties! Ms. Annabella, and Feria, I’m counting on you to look after Kent!”

”Elder Sister, I’ll stay too and take care of his… needs.”

 ”Then, I’m off!”

Milly took the map from the man at the counter.

 ”Elder Sister, let go! Elder Sister──! Kent──help me──! Ahh──!”

Milly carried Lina under her arm and left the Guild.

”I’m sorry. Milly, I’ve put you through so much… When we get back, I’ll make sure to take care of both of you.”

”Wow, I’m glad I could finally deal with that troublesome case that no one else would take.”

The man at the counter spoke cheerfully.

He seemed like a pretty tough guy, not backing down at all in front of the super VIP, Milly.

”Phew, I was worried about how things would turn out for a moment there. But hey, it’s all settled now.”

Feria, this is all because of your outrageous comments…

I returned home feeling completely exhausted.

I’ll keep quiet about almost getting run over by the carriage Milly was in on the way back.
