Volume 2 Chapter 17 The Owl Obsessed With Azrael
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”So, it means this sword can make me the master of the wind?”
’That is not incorrect. It can break the opponent’s wind magic and properties, and by pouring magic power into it, you can activate wind-related magic. A magician who uses wind magic would find it impossible to deal with someone wielding this.’
”If I look closely, I can see magic language I recognize inscribed on it. ‘Acceleration,’ ‘Great Sword,’ ‘Sever,’ ‘Blood Cleansing’──all the orthodox ones that a blacksmith could engrave are here. But isn’t that a bit greedy? If I activate them all, the material might not withstand it and break.”
For example, with an ordinary iron sword, if you engrave one or 2 magic languages, depending on how the wielder pours their magic power, the material could degrade and break.
It’s only natural since the weapon is being pushed to its limits.
If you keep engraving powerful symbols like on this ‘Windsong Blade,’ an iron sword would probably break after just one or 2 swings.
’Is this your first time wielding a magic sword?’
”Well, yes. It’s something incredibly expensive.”
He had only seen his father Umar Vahid’s possessions from a distance, and that was it.
This was the first time he was actually holding one.
’This magic sword… it is frustrating for me to admit, but it is extremely powerful. If the material is high quality, the craftsman who forged it must have been a master. Whether it is superior to the ancient weapons sleeping in the fortress city is a delicate matter.’
”Speaking of which, we had a bet on which of us could procure a better weapon.”
If Kian won, ‘glasses’ had promised to answer one question honestly.
’So, why did you want this magic sword? Did you instinctively sense it was on par with the divine sword held by that high elf hag, prompting you to take the risk?’
”No, I just liked its appearance…”
Kian looked down at the oddly shaped magic sword with its numerous holes.
The golden hilt and silver blade of the magic sword reflected the sunlight streaming in from the window, shining dazzlingly.
(But I was also fascinated by the glow. I see, I perhaps unconsciously sense the strength of this magic sword)
’Your intuition is correct. There is no point worrying that it will break soon’
”There’s no point whining here. Let’s go back to the town in East End and visit the Guild’s training ground. Test cut it on a random piece of wood”
’Also, prepare a sheath so the sword does not scream unnecessarily’
”That’s right. I’ll make one myself soon. I can make a sheath myself”
Kian replied and wrapped the white cloth around the ‘Windsong Blade’.
As the white cloth wrapped around the blade of the Windsong Blade, the whispering sound gradually became quieter.
After wrapping it in cloth, he puts it on his back.
At that time, the wooden sword hit the sword and got in the way.
”──. ──I’ll just hang one on my waist.”
Then he moves the club into his backpack.
Even if he fights in a narrow place like a cave, he has outstanding spatial awareness and sword skills.
To be honest, the ‘Windsong Blade’ is enough.
It has the magic language engraved on it, so it should be possible to carve out the rock wall and cut the enemy in half.
’If I could be greedy, I would like a knife that is just as powerful.’
(Is the ancient equipment you introduce to me in the fortress city a knife?)
’That is for you to enjoy. It is more fun when you do not know who will win until the end of the bet.’
”Don’t be so stingy…”
When Kian muttered with a shocked look on his face, he suddenly sensed someone at the door.
When he turned around, he saw a knight named ‘glasses’ wearing owl feathers on his armor – Owl – opening the door and coming in.
His long brown hair sways.
The armor clanged.
The slits under the ‘glasses’ caught Kian’s figure.
”Hey, are you checking the loot?”
”Oh, yes… that’s about it”
Kian smiled faintly as he put his backpack on his shoulder.
”I heard from Oswald’s men that you can ride back to the town in the East End.”
”Yes, that’s right”
”If you don’t mind, shall I send you with the teleportation spell?”
”Huh?”
”The teleportation spell. It’s a magic that allows you to jump through space. I may look like a knight, but I’m actually a magician as well.”
Owl said this as he took a large white gem-studded staff from his back.
”Is that really okay? But aren’t you busy?”
”Unlike Oswald and Renaud, I don’t own any territory. I’m just a small-time gem merchant on the side, so I have more flexibility with my time than they do. Besides, using teleportation doesn’t take much time at all.”
”I see. Then would it be alright to ask you for that? Oh, but please let the subordinate who is preparing the horse know…”
”I’ve already told them that if I use teleportation, a horse won’t be necessary.”
”You’re very well prepared. Thank you. Then please proceed with the teleportation spell.”
”Yes, leave it to me. However, we can’t jump from here because of the barrier, so could you step outside the fortress first?”
The owl knight said this as he opened the door to the strategy room wide and propped it open with his foot.
It seemed he was asking Kian to go out first.
Kian took him up on his offer and stepped out of the strategy room into the stone plaza.
Outside, a few guards were standing.
”I will be sending this adventurer to East End now. If any of the other lords ask about my whereabouts, please let them know that I jumped to East End using teleportation.”
”Understood.” “Have a good trip.”
Two guards saluted with sharp movements.
They didn’t seem to be Owl’s subordinates, but they were likely showing respect due to their status.
According to Owl himself, he was neither a noble nor a knight with territory, but it seemed that social hierarchy didn’t matter in this case.
”Let’s go, Kian.”
He said this and began to lead the way down the narrow passage.
Before long, Kian and Owl left the Knights of the Sun’s training ground behind.
* * *
”Kian, are you from the rocky region of Azrael?”
As they left the Knights of the Sun’s training ground and walked through the hilly area, Owl asked this question.
”Yes, that’s right.”
”Which oasis are you from? Is it Islara?”
”No… I’m from the capital, Azrael.”
”You’re from the town of Azrael!”
For some reason, he looked very pleased.
He turned his face towards Kian and quickly adjusted his glasses with his fingers.
”So, you graduated from the monastery, right?”
”Yes.”
”I thought so! When I saw you fighting Renaud de Châtillon, I had a feeling you might be. Haha!”
”Um… you seem to be having a lot of fun.”
”Ah, I apologize for that.”
He lowered his eyebrows and faced forward again.
”Actually, I’ve been researching a lot about Azrael. It’s fascinating, isn’t it? Azrael, the town of justice, law, and discipline. It flourishes as a trading city, connecting the east and west, which is why it has strict morals and justice. Information about the warrior monks of that country is generally kept secret. However, there are occasional opportunities to meet those who travel to the western world, whether they are practitioners or on some mission. I’ve heard stories about the teachings and laws of the Azrael faith from such individuals, and I deeply resonate with them.”
The brown-haired knight spoke rapidly.
At first, his impression was neither good nor bad──it was ordinary──but now he seemed to be a bit of an unusual person.
’Is it you who says that?’
”I see, the teachings of the Azrael faith… Indeed, the scripture contains good stories. They feel like fables or parables that could enrich the heart.”
”The scripture of Azrael describes the ideal way for humans to live. I’ve read a copy, and it was wonderful. If that way of thinking spreads throughout the world, there would be no more conflict, and evil would no longer prevail.”
”That might be true.”
”I am a Westerner, but someday I want to cross over to the town of Azrael and train there to become a monk of the Azrael faith.”
”So you’re saying you want to convert from the Western Church?”
”That seems to be the case. But I believe it’s worth it. Kian.”
He took out his staff from his back and created a teleportation gate.
Then he turned to Kian, looking at him with sparkling eyes.
”I really love Azrael. If possible, I would like to hear a lot about Azrael from you. I want to talk about it!”
”Oh, okay.”
The wind blew through the hilly area.
The owl knight’s hair swayed, and the scent of Azrael tickled Kian’s nose.
It was a fragrance full of exotic charm in this Franz Kingdom.
For Kian, it was a very nostalgic scent──.
