Volume 2 Chapter 23 Adventure In The Street Market
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
’Is there a problem?’
(If the story spreads that a low-ranking adventurer like me managed to draw with a knight who can become a dragon, my peaceful days would shatter into pieces.)
’Isn’t that a good thing? Instead, you might use it as material to get this girl into service.’
(It’s not all good though. Something troublesome is definitely going to happen. I’ll have to figure out a way to cover this up──)
But before Kian could say anything, Christy, with her face all red, rushed up to him.
She pointed her magician’s staff at Kian and shot him a sharp glare.
”I, I defeated Shield Cain! You were just standing around doing nothing! It’s not good to lie, okay! And a mad female magician is incredibly scary, you know?!”
”Correction. It was Ms. Christy’s achievement. I’m sorry for lying.”
”────! How annoying you are!”
”What do you want me to do, seriously…. So, Your Excellency Maribel, do you intend to make me duel with your female magician attendant? I already have several duels scheduled, so I’m quite full.”
”Christy. Stay!”
”I’m not a dog, Manon!”
”Yes, we are friends, after all.”
”Huh? Isn’t it definitely a work relationship!”
”Eh…? So, was I the only one who thought we were friends?”
”Ugh…”
Maribel’s face became visibly sad, and Christy backed away in fear.
A heavy silence passed for a few seconds, and then the black-haired witch blushed a little and brushed her hair back.
”Well, well…? We hang out a lot in private, so we might be friends. But what is the definition of a friend in the first place? That’s where the discussion should start.”
”Definition…? Christy says some strange things sometimes. A friend is a friend”
”────”
Maribel’s words seemed to strike a deep chord in Christy’s heart.
She had been chirping noisily, but suddenly she couldn’t continue and started mumbling.
Kian was watching from the side, and he couldn’t help but think that Christy, despite being strange, might actually be a very sad person.
’Hehe, what is the definition of a friend? What on earth is this woman saying?’
(I should try not to pry too much.)
As Kian replied to ‘glasses,’ he deliberately spoke in a bright tone to restore the atmosphere.
”Um, we’re going to the street market, right? I’ll guide you. This way.”
”Well, thank you, Sir Kian.”
”Please just call me Kian, Your Excellency.”
”Then I’ll do that, Kian. Nice to meet you.”
Maribel walked closely beside Kian.
From right behind, Christy called out, “Wait for me! …Wait, hold on!” as she hurriedly followed them.

”There are 2 places I want to visit in the western street market. One is a shop called ‘Mao Yue (Yellow Moon),’ which is an Eastern merchant guild.”
From the main street to the west street.
From the west street to the street market where many Azraelian gather.
For Kian, this was a familiar area he used to visit every day during his impoverished days to eat from the stalls.
The area is well-organized and gives off a relatively clean impression, but this street market is quite chaotic.
Blue, red, yellow──.
Tents of various sizes and primary colors are spread out haphazardly, and the people passing by are a mixture of races, just like a salad bowl.
The loud shouts of people and the voices of people soliciting are constantly heard, and the distinctive smells of smoke from the food stalls, grilled meat, and spices hang over the crowded streets.
Kian skillfully avoids crowded areas and guides the two girls deeper into the cave.
”‘Mao Yue’…? They sell ingredients for elixir there, but most of it is dangerous poison. I don’t recommend going near there.”
”I’m not buying medicine.”
”……?”
Then why are you going──?
Kian looked down at Maribel, who was wearing a mask again, and frowned.
He reached out to support Christy, who was stumbling after being bumped into from behind.
”Don’t stray too far, Ms. Christy. It’s dangerous.”
”…! D-Don’t be so familiar──”
”Hey, your wallet is being targeted.”
”Huh?”
”Look, over here.”
Kian quickly whispered and positioned Christy next to Maribel.
He extended his arms to protect and guide them both.
”It’s okay, I’m keeping an eye on you.”
”Uh… yeah…”
Perhaps frightened by the crowd around her, Christy nodded meekly.
(At this distance, she’d probably get taken out before she could use magic. She must be feeling anxious now that she can’t rely on her lifeline.)
’This girl seems surprisingly easy, huh. Looking at her like this, her magic power seems pretty decent… not bad at all.’
(Alright, alright)
Kian casually replied, then indicated to Maribel to look diagonally to the right ahead.
”That big yellow tent over there is ‘Mao Yue’.”
”Thank you. Christy, get the money ready.”
”…I mean, I’m the one negotiating, right?”
”No, it will be me, Christy!”
”What?! No, of course not! It’s dangerous!”
”Kian, it’s okay, right?”
”I’m watching closely, but I’d prefer to leave the negotiations to Ms. Christy.”
”Look, he said so, and I’ll do it!”
”No! Let me do it! I mean, I will! This is decided!”
”Are you serious?”
”Yes, if you’re worried, please put up a barrier, Christy.”
”O-okay, I get it. I’ll call you, so just stay where you are.”
After that commotion in front of the store, Maribel strode into the Mao Yue tent.
Then a suspicious Eastern man wearing sunglasses appears from the back of the store.
Maribel had Kian and Christy wait behind her and talked to the store owner for about 5 minutes.
After a while, Christy uses magic to pull out a bag full of gold coins and gives it to the shopkeeper.
In exchange, Maribel received 3 small booklets from him.
”Well, I’ll send my subordinate later to return the copy.”
With a graceful smile, the young princess from the outskirts said this and left the store accompanied by Kian and Christy.
Kian shot a suspicious glance at Maribel.
”What about that booklet…?”
”It’s a diary. Don’t mind it.”
She smiled gently and handed it to Christy in a way that completely concealed the cover.
However, the letters on the cover written in the common language of the East were visible through Christy’s hands.
’Customer List’──.
”────”
Kian involuntarily glanced back at the tent of ‘Mao Yue.’
The customer list of a shop that also deals with poisons.
This girl had paid a large sum to obtain it.
What on earth is she doing that for──?
”Kian, this will be the last one”
”Ah, yes. Do you know the name of the store?”
”Christy, let’s start dowsing.”
”Okay, okay…”
The black-haired girl, who put the booklet into her backpack, said this with a look of annoyance and pulled out a silver dowsing tool from under her sleeve.
It was rectangular, and as she held it, the tip of the tool began to sway back and forth.
”For the second one, we’re looking for an item, not a store. It’s an amber ring with the Griffin emblem on the back. It should be in this street market, right, Christy?”
”Yes, there’s no doubt about it. The dowsing is working just fine. ──That’s the stall over there.”
She pointed to a crude tent made from a few rags.
”Let’s go!”
Maribel said this bravely and quickened her pace.
It was the same in the previous test, but this princess has strong legs despite being a princess.
That’s probably because she walks around a lot.
(I can imagine the hardships of the female magician who accompanies her…)
Kian secretly gave Christy a sympathetic look, then touch her back and followed Maribel.
