Chapter 357 Gunilla’s Great Crossbow (Arbalest)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
(Hiroya’s POV)
”So, whaddya think we do now? We headin’ back to the Clan house?”
Simona, who is entwined around my left arm, turns to look at me with a happy face.
Now that I think about it, this is the first time I’ve walked like this with Simona.
”What should we do? I told Ms. Hanna I didn’t want lunch.”
”Yeah, right. Well then──let’s go grab something to eat♡”
Then, still arm in arm, we stepped out from the alley into the village’s central square.
There, we could see the hustle and bustle of the food stalls at lunchtime.
Adventurers, soldiers, and the employees from the Zett Merchant Guild were all bustling around the stalls in search of lunch, and when ‘Berserker’ Simona and the adventurer known as ‘Swift,’ with our arms intertwined, emerged from the alley where the so-called ‘inn for trysts’ was located, we definitely drew attention.
”Oh no… bad timing… we’re the center of attention now…”
”I’m fine. I mean, me and Hiroya? We’re tight like that, ya know?♡”
Simona is smiling brightly in response to my mumbling.
Well, as long as she’s having fun, it’s no problem.
”As always, Hiroya, you bring a lovely lady with you.”
”‘Berserker’ Simona?”
”She’s going to be ranked S soon”
”I heard Hiroya is coming soon too?”
”By the way, it seems that the Liz team of ‘Famière’ has reached the 19th floor.”
I can hear the adventurers talking, and they’re not whispering.
”Even so, he has grown a lot, hasn’t he, Hiroya?”
”Yeah. Before, it was okay with Kazumie and Rena, but when I saw him being hung up by other girls, he looked like a real little brother.”
”I think Hiroya is just about within my range right now”
”Me too~”
Simona glares at the female adventurers as she hears their conversation.
””””Huh!?””””
I pulled Simona’s arm to stop her and brought up the topic of lunch.
”So, where we eatin’?”
”Huh? Oh, there’s a small diner in the village that just converted into a cafe… The last time I went with Liz, it was pretty good.”
”Alright, let’s hit it.”
Simona smiled at my response and pulled my hand, starting to run.

(Gunilla’s POV)
(Ever’body in the clan… Hiroya’s been fretful ’bout me…)
After finishing unloading the luggage at the ‘Chick Gathering Inn’, I took the opportunity to help clean the rooms and prepare the diner, which gets busy in the evenings.
(But… with today’s earnin’s, I reckon I could finally get that…)
The ‘Arbalest’ that I’ve always wanted.
Of course, as ‘Porters’, we’re not required to have combat skills.
I thought that way too.
But──
(I seem to’ve gotten the hang of usin’ the Black Bow.)
In fact, I think I’ve started to be of some help as a support fighter… and I want to be even more useful.
That’s when I found that large Black Bow, ‘Arbalest’, in the showcase of the ‘Zett Merchant Guild’.
I was shocked by the price, but I was convinced after hearing about its performance from Mr. Waleerry.

”This bow has the power to imbue the arrows with the magic of ‘explosion (firebomb).’”
Mr. Waleerry said that and let me touch the owl.
Even though it can be folded, it is quite large when in use.
It was the perfect size for me.
I liked it so much that I paid a large gold coin for it on the spot.
”This here’s just a deposit. I’ll pay the rest little by little, so please don’t go sellin’ it on me…”
”No, I’m indebted to the clan ‘Famière’, and because of its size, only a limited number of people can use it… so I’ll sell it to you for this price.”
Mr. Waleerry says so, but I can’t take advantage of the clan’s trust.
I gently declined Mr. Waleerry’s offer, put the Arbalest on the counter, bowed his head, and left the store.
(My pay alone just ain’t enough—)
I sighed as I looked at the small gold coin and some silver coins in my wallet.
Recently, I’ve been getting 2 gold coins a week, but it’s tough if I spend all of it.
At least I want to save half of it.
So, I started a part-time job.

In the evening, after finishing work, I received my pay from Ms. Della.
”I’m really sorry about everything. You’ve helped me a lot.”
She handed me 3 small coins while saying that.
”Ain’t this a bit much (so many)?”
”Well, you did work a lot. Also, it’s a hush money♡”
”Ah…”
Someone I caught a glimpse of while working.
I think it was the lord… Mr. Hiroya’s father.
(His wife’s still missin’… ain’t been found yet.)
The lord is a man too, so he probably needs to release some stress.
──Though his partner wasn’t a prostitute, but Ms. Della.

I dashed out of the ‘Chick Gathering Inn’, the sun had set, and the alley was growing dim.
As the store came into view, the light inside illuminated the showcase.
(There it is. ‘Arbalest’!)
It’s only natural since I paid the deposit, but I always feel relieved when I see him like that.
When I ran into the store, a female employee was cleaning up, and Mr. Waleerry had also started tidying up the store.
”Ms. Gunilla, we’ve been waiting for you”
Mr. Waleerry stopped what she was doing and gave me a smile.
”Please wait a moment”
Saying this, he walks over to the showcase and takes out ‘Arbalest’.
”Here you go. An adventurer came asking for this in the afternoon, but I politely declined.”
”Thank ya kindly!”
”No, no. It’s our fault for leaving the products on display in the showcase for which we have already received a deposit and for which you continue to pay.”
And with that, he handed me the ‘Arbalest’ that I had been longing for.
Wow took a small coin out of my wallet and handed it to Mr. Waleerry before receiving the ‘Arbalest.’
”I’ll get your change ready.”
Mr. Waleerry disappeared to the back of the counter, and the female staff smiled at me.
”Finally! Congratulations. And thank you for your purchase.”
Excitedly checking the folding mechanism, I hurriedly bowed my head.
”Here’s your change. And──”
Emerging from the back, Mr. Waleerry offered me a tray of silver coins, and as I received them… he handed me a quiver filled with arrows.
”Since it’s a special occasion, I’ve arranged a quiver that matches that arbalest, along with about 30 arrows. This is complimentary, so please accept it.”
”A…are ya sure it’s really okay?”
”Of course. It’s a service for customers who have made such a sincere transaction without any price haggling.”
I received the quiver that Mr. Waleerry offered with a smile and attached it to my belt.
”As expected of Ms. Gunilla, it doesn’t feel bulky even on my waist. Hm. Just as I thought.”
Mr. Waleerry smiled happily.
Indeed, as a ‘Porter,’ I couldn’t carry a large backpack on my back.
I embraced the arbalest, bowed to Mr. Waleerry and the woman, and left the store.
(Now that I’m back, I can’t wait to give it a try…!)
I ran down the road, which was starting to get dark, toward the clan house.
