Then, Lina ran over to me.

”Kent, help me out! I’m going to chant ‘Wind Cutter,’ so you hold my hand and chant ‘energy bolt’ with me! Hurry up!”

I was pushed by Lina’s intensity and took her hand.

And then I started to read the incantation for ‘energy bolt.’

Lina also read the incantation for ‘Wind Cutter’ at the same time as me.

However, I couldn’t see the familiar target site, and the lock necessary for casting magic didn’t activate either.

 What’s going on?

I completed the magic while still confused.

”Gathered magic element! Become light and pierce the enemy! ‘energy bolt’!”

”Gathered magic element! Become wind and slice the enemy! ‘Wind Cutter’!”

My magic activated, but the energy bolt didn’t shoot out; instead, it floated as a light sphere in Lina’s left hand.

Lina’s Wind Cutter swirled in her right hand as a small vortex of wind.

Then, Lina began to chant an unfamiliar incantation.

”Light in my left hand! Wind in my right! Merge the two magic elements! Become a new lightning and scorch the enemy! ‘Chain Lightning’!”

When Lina put her hands together in front of her, the ball of light and the wind mixed together, and soon a bolt of lightning-like electricity shot out from her fingertips, hitting a group of monsters flying in the sky and about to plummet.

The monsters, whose groups had been reduced by magic, temporarily weakened their offensive against the archers, and retreated into the sky, giving us a breather.

”Oh, the enemy has retreated. Lina, what is this?”

”Composite magic. It’s magic that can’t be memorized with scrolls. You can use it alone, but its power increases when multiple people use it together. However, the only ones who know Attack Magic are you, me, Aurelia, and Elder Sister, right? Since Aurelia and Elder Sister can’t be separated from their guard duty, we had no choice but to use you.”

”Still, it’s incredible power even though we’re using Beginner-level magic.”

”Well, there are various things, but the only composite magic we can use together right now is ‘Chain Lightning’. If there were more people who’ve learned various types of magic, we could have more variations of composite magic.”

”It costs money… it’s all about cost-effectiveness. Anyway, I’m glad to hear good news. Thanks, Lina.”

 I gently patted Lina’s head.

”Kent! You won’t distract me that easily! I’ll take my reward later! Right now, I’m going to take out more enemies! Lent me your magic power!”

I teamed up with Lina, using ‘Chain Lightning’ to zap down a group of monsters and halt their advance.

As the assault weakened, the archers revived and began shooting down the monsters one after another.

Panicking ‘Dark Ravens’ began cawing, and the ‘Iron Beetles’, which had been on standby, kicked up dust as they marched toward the castle gate.

”Enemies, ‘Iron Beetles’! They’re advancing towards the castle gate! There’s a thousand of them!”

Hearing the report from the lookout, I immediately gave instructions.

”Team Aida and the archers, prioritize exterminating the ‘Dark Ravens’ in the air! Shoot and shoot and keep shooting the ‘Dark Ravens’! Fire all your bullets at them! Red Valkyrie, escort the archers and Aida’s team! Crimson Brides, assemble at the gates! Hurry!”

A massive barrage of death bullets was fired at the monsters from the Aida squad that received the order.

The monsters covering the sky were hit one after another and crashed to the ground.

Since Milly confirmed that there were no more enemies behind us, we decided to wipe them out without holding back on ammunition.

The monsters, exposed to the enormous firepower of the magic guns, were confused and fled in the sky, crashing into each other and falling down as a result.

”Alright, good. Akebus! Giuliana! I’ve left the air to you!”

Akebus and Giuliana raised their hands at their respective posts in response.

Having entrusted the aerial command to the two of them, I turned my gaze to the ground and focused on the ‘Iron Beetles’ advancing like tanks.

Before long, Annabella and Aurelia also joined at the castle gate.

”Sir Kent, it’s finally time. We’re going to use that thing…”

Among those who joined, only Annabella knew my plan. It was a strategy devised to slaughter a thousand ‘Iron Beetles’.

”Ah, it’s something I specially prepared for them… hehehe.”

”Mr. Kent looks a bit like a dark figure.”

 ”Kent… what have you done?”

All the members, except Annabella, were taken aback by my eerie smile.

”For now, the reason I gathered everyone is to prepare for the worst. In case the plan fails, we will all take down the ‘Iron Beetles’. Aurelia, this is going to be a good fight.”

”Lord Kent, a thousand is a bit much… if you want me to cut them down, I’ll do it…”

”Just kidding. There’s almost no chance of it breaking.”

 I give a confident answer.

Among the stunned members, only Annabella nodded.

”Sir Kent, ‘Iron Beetle’ is 50 meters away from the gates-nya!”

The leading group of Iron Beetles, which had spread out over a width of about 50 meters and were marching single-mindedly towards the castle gate, suddenly vanished.

 Thud! Thud! Thud! Squish! BOOM!

A huge pit 10 meters deep appeared 50 meters square from the very entrance of the castle gate.

 ”It’s decided!”

”The enemy has disappeared… This must be a pitfall… Kent… When did such a large hole appear…?”

Milly and the others who were on top of the castle gate were astonished by the sudden appearance of the massive pitfall.

In the meantime, the ‘Iron Beetles’ that were pushed from behind were continuously falling into the pit, getting crushed under their own weight and dying.

It’s like a completely automated slaughterhouse…With their intelligence, they won’t be able to stop without the ‘Dark Raven’s’ instructions.

”You used ‘Creation of the Universe’, didn’t you! What were you thinking! If you use ‘Divine Magic’, it might not just end with running out of magic elements! Did you forget that you collapsed last time!?”

I can understand Lina’s anger, but I wish she would at least acknowledge the trap I painstakingly built through all-nighters while managing my magic power and chugging down mana recovery potions.

I’m not an idiot; I know that ‘Divine Magic’ consumes a lot of magic power, which is why I was careful about my remaining magic.

Moreover, I worked hard believing that if this trap was completed, we could avoid the risk of everyone fighting.

 Lina.

I need some praise to grow, you know.

I felt a bit down after being scolded by Lina.

However, the other members were praising me without holding back.

 Splat! Splat! Thud!

Meanwhile, the death march of the ‘Iron Beetles’ continued.

Eventually, they had filled about half of the dug pit.

I launch a follow-up attack at the dying Iron Beetle.

”Come on, everyone, take a torch”

Even when it was light, I continued to burn a torch from the bonfire.

 Everyone also held a torch.

 ”Let’s go! Showtime!”

I threw the torch I was holding into the pit.

 Everyone else followed suit.

The torch flared up vigorously as it fell into the pit.

The tallow brought as supplies had been poured into the pit, and the rain awning used to cover the pit was made of fabric soaked in tallow.

So, when the torch was thrown into the pit, a hellish scene of flames appeared.

”‘Iron Beetle’ is burning… Lord Kent… what a wicked scheme…”

”Aurelia… even I have never thought of such a wicked scheme. The ‘Iron Beetle’ can do nothing but be slaughtered unilaterally.”

Aurelia and Milly stood frozen, watching the blazing pit.

Meanwhile, Feria and Ines seemed dissatisfied with not being able to fight and were complaining to me.

”It’s Mr. Kent’s fault that we have no chance to fight!”

”Well, I was glad I got to take it easy. Sir Kent.”

”Well, the enemies in the air are still remaining, so please bear with that.”

”Geez, my arrows don’t hit at all!”

After a while, a thousand ‘Iron Beetles’ advancing with clouds of dust had completely disappeared from the ground.

This situation also conveyed to the ‘Dark Ravens’ being bombarded by magic guns in the sky.

They were being concentrated on and attacked by the archers and Aida, rapidly reducing their numbers.

Finally, the ‘Dark Ravens’ that had been reduced to 2 hundred started to flee.

Following that, about 5 hundred ‘Vampire Crows’ also began to flee.

However, a thousand 5 hundred ‘Blue Tail Butterflies’ that had lost control dove towards the barrier.

This caught me off guard as well. I had thought that if the ‘Dark Ravens’ lost control, the ‘Blue Tail Butterflies’ would also flee.

 What a complete miscalculation.

 What should I do…

About 20 people have already left the battle with injuries of varying severity.

The remaining combat-ready personnel were less than 130.

 1500 to 130.

The quota is more than ten per person…

That’s a tough number considering how tired we’ve been so far.

Even though they are weak monsters, if they are overwhelmed by numbers, there will be casualties.

 That’s something we must avoid.

I couldn’t organize my thoughts, but anyway, I headed to the place where the swarm of Blue Tail Butterflies was gathering together with the members of Crimson Bride.

I scatter the leftover bullets from Elitzina.

However, against the number of one thousand 5 hundred, it was like a drop in the bucket.

Using the last of her magic with Lina, I unleash ‘Chain Lightning’ once more.

About a hundred have been taken down, but the remaining 14 hundred ‘Blue Tail Butterflies’ charged at us madly.

Feria, Ines, and Annabella, who had more stamina due to not being called into action much, are knocking down the monsters, but those surrounded by the ‘Blue Tail Butterflies’ are sequentially withdrawing from battle.

This is bad, our combat personnel has dropped below 50.

We’re going to be wiped out… damn… is this it…

We’re already in a situation where we don’t have enough manpower to send the incapacitated personnel to Lana. The ‘Blue Tail Butterflies’ seem to have a tendency to concentrate their attacks on those who are still standing rather than on those who are incapacitated or unconscious.

As a result, the enemy’s attacks are pouring in on us, who are still capable of fighting.

Then, Beatrice, finding something, dashed out.

”Kent! Reinforcements from Abyss Vena are on the way! Five hundred members of the civilian defense corps are coming this way!”

 ”Reinforcements have arrived!”

”Kent, it’s reinforcements! We can turn this around. If we deal with the ‘Blue Tail Butterflies’, it’ll mean we’ve defeated the ten thousand heading east.”

”Alright! Reinforcements are here! Let’s hold on a little longer!”

Responses come back from the members around.

They probably regained their fighting spirit upon seeing the reinforcements.

However, the ammunition of Team Aida, which was our firepower pillar, has run out.

Two members of Aida’s team have already left, leaving 6 members and Kerstin, but without any bullets to fire, Elitzina is just a barrel.

 Aida told me to retreat.

”Kent, I’m sorry, but we’re a drag on the people without ammo, so we’ll have to retreat.”

”Oh, please pull back quickly. If anything, please guide the Resident Defense Force. I want them to come as soon as possible.”

”Okay. We’ll be on the guide mission. Everyone! We’ll be downstairs to greet you.”

Aida and the others went down to meet the reinforcements.

The battle continues, but the number of ‘Blue Tail Butterflies’ has been reduced to one thousand.

Then, when the resident defense team arrived, under my command.

A simultaneous volley of arrows was fired.

By that time, everyone except me had been ordered to retreat from the wall.

The ‘Blue Tail Butterfly’ swarmed around me, the only one standing against them on the wall.

The 5 hundred arrows released fell around me like rain, but thanks to the armor borrowed from Golerg, I didn’t take any damage from the enemies or the arrows.

Then, after a while of this rain of arrows, all the ‘Blue Tail Butterflies’ that had been swarming around me were shot down.

 ”Somehow, we held the line…”

Feeling relieved at having defended, and perhaps suffering from the lack of sleep, I collapsed and fell asleep.
