Volume 2 Chapter 39 Remnants Of The Past
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
After the ceremony, Kian sneaked out of the hall with Christy, following the flow of knights to another hall.
This place was not the grand ceremony hall made of stone, glass, and iron, but a warm room with wooden chairs and tables.
The ceiling of the room was still high, with many windows up top.
Light from the sun, which was getting stronger, shone through the windows.
In the large room, women wearing hoods, who seemed to be servants, were bringing out barrels of honey wine and plates of dried meat from the kitchen.
”It looks like the feast is about to start.”
Kian called out to Christy so she could hear him over the loud voices of the knights.
”Yes. The dinner party. Even though there’s still time until night, everyone plans to drink and get tipsy before the real fun starts.”
”Real fun?”
”A fist fight.”
Christy twisted her beautiful face.
She pulled Kian’s arm and moved to the wall, continuing her words.
”When the dinner party starts, they will begin cutting the meat. After that, people will fight over it and it will turn into a brawl.”
”I see… That sounds wild.”
”It’s barbaric. To fight with friends over food. From what I’ve observed, many people see it as a way to communicate, but we have words for that, so we should use them. Don’t you think?”
”I agree. By the way, is it okay for me to be here? It seems there’s no problem with me attending the ceremony.”
”If you’re worried, why don’t you move to another room? I’m afraid Sir McCutchen and Lady Natasha will have to be bothered if I don’t at least show my face.”
”Who is Natasha?”
”The head magician here”
Christy put her lips in a ‘^’ shape.
”My direct boss”
”I see. Well then, I’ll join in too.”
”‘Why bother’…? Maybe you think parties are fun? I thought you were the same kind of person as me.”
”It’s not about liking or disliking, I just want the chance to meet people here. I plan to be an adventurer in Izerland for a while, so the more friends I have, the better. Especially if they are knights living in the castle.”
”I see… I feel like I’ve lost somehow.”
Christy started to feel down by herself.
Kian thought it would be better to get a drink from somewhere than to keep talking to her like this.
If he had some alcohol, this shy witch might start chatting happily.
”Is honey wine okay?”
”Huh?”
”It’s alcohol. How about it? I want to try all the drinks from Izerland castle. If you don’t have anyone to talk to, could you be my drinking buddy for a while?”
”Well… that’s fine.”
”Then I’ll get one for Ms. Christy too.”
”Ah, wait!”
Christy straightened up from the wall she was leaning against.
”I’m going too. I want some wine.”
Kian smiled happily and stood next to her like a knight.
They both went to where the servants were getting the barrels of alcohol ready.
Kian ordered honey wine.
Christy got a glass of wine and moved back to the wall again.
Kian was secretly planning a conversation to have with her, mixing in some trivia about alcohol, but before he could say anything, a familiar voice rang out from beside him.
”… Kian?”
Few people call Kian by his name.
The first person that came to mind was Aliona, but the voice was not Aliona’s.
A man’s voice, a little high-pitched.
When he turned around, there was a strange knight standing there with owl feathers attached to his armor.
It’s Owl.
He pushed up the bridge of his glasses, smoothing the lines in his eyes.
”Ah, it was Kian after all!”
The slim body glided toward him.
Before, he was standing next to Renaud, the knight who can turn into a dragon, so he had an image of him as being small, but now that he sees him, he is actually quite tall.
His cloak, covered with owl feathers, reveals his muscular arms.
He adjusted the angle of his special hat and smiled again at Kian and Christy.
”I never thought I would see you here! Hello, Kian. And Christy too!”
”It’s been a while, Mr. Owl.”
”Hello, Owl.”
”You are wearing glasses, but they don’t have any lenses, do they?”
Owl bent a little and got closer to Kian’s face.
The sweet smell of Azrael perfume brushed his nose.
As always, he seems to be wearing a rare perfume.
It must be hard to get in the Franz Kingdom, but does he use it every day?
Kian smiled wryly.
”These are just fancy ‘glasses’.”
”They look nice. And I have the same ones!”
Owl said this and lifted his thin lips in a grin.
His smile spread wide, almost reaching his ears, showing a glimpse of his sharp teeth.
He hurriedly pushed up the bridge of his glasses and tilted his head a little.
”But why are you here?”
He looked just like a real bird.
Kian tried not to be bothered by this strange person getting so close and kept a smile on his face.
”I was invited by Her Excellency Maribel and Ms. Christy.”
”Oh, I see. I can’t thank you enough for protecting our princess the other day. Christina, did you thank him too?”
”Yes”
”I’m glad Kian was there. Apparently the assassins were very skilled. If I’d been there, I could have killed the perpetrators together with Kian. It’s a pity.”
”Mr. Owl has his daytime job too. He can’t stay at Her Excellency all the time.”
”Right now, I am trying to stay close to Her Excellency as much as possible. My subordinate knights are in charge of guarding tonight’s banquet. Please enjoy your drink in peace.”
”Owl”
Christy snorted.
”Did you put on the wrong amount of perfume today? The smell is a bit strong.”
”Um, is that so…? I’m sorry for that.”
”I didn’t really think anything of it.”
”I really don’t like the perfume that Owl wears, it’s from Azrael. It’s just so sweet, right? Everyone has different tastes, so I can’t say much.”
(But you are saying it pretty strongly.)
’This little lady sure speaks her mind!’
By the way, if we talk about strength of smell, there are other women here with much stronger scents.
Owl’s perfume is just a bit more than average.
It’s not really unpleasant.
He should say something nice here.
Otherwise, the mood might get bad.
”I like Mr. Owl’s perfume. If you don’t mind, can you tell me what it’s called?”
”‘It’s called ‘Night Flight.’ Do you know it, Kian?”
”Unfortunately, I’m not good with perfumes. But it has a smell close to that.”
”Yes. This is my favorite scent. If there’s a problem, it’s that there are no shops in Franz that sell it. I sometimes fly to Azrael for work, and I buy a lot then. About 50 cases.”
”──Huh!? Really? You’re rich…”
”You, a lady magician, say that, Christina?”
”What do you mean by that?”
”No, no…”
Owl opened his eyes.
