Christy sighed and threw the rag into the bucket.
”I’m hungry. Bread and wine… and maybe some dried meat. Is it okay if you have the same as me? Actually, it’s the only thing available. If you don’t like it, you can stay hungry like a stray dog.”
Kian lifted the bucket.
”It’s fine. But after we eat, I want to know about you. Like what life is like here, and if you don’t mind, about your time at the academy and your childhood too.”
”I’d be happy to share if you talk too. ──Kian Vahid?”
”You’ve got the wrong person. There are many guys named Kian in my country. Some even look like me. But──”
Kian opened the back door.
”Her Excellency has probably already heard my story from Sir McCutchen.”
Margrave Godfrey Danofen once brought his followers to test Kian in East End when deciding whether to accept him into the territory.
That steward was likely there too, looking 15 years younger as part of the group.
Even later, when Kian had interviews at places like the Adventurers’ Guild, the Margrave’s trusted men were often in the interview room as extras.
Though he didn’t think about it much, it’s very likely that the man named McCutchen had seen Kian several times.
(Because of the Absorb Essence, I looked younger, closer to how I were 15 years ago. But he remembered well.)
The steward’s job is somewhat about meeting people.
He must have seen and remembered the faces of hundreds of people each year.
Fourteen years ago was certainly a big event, but it’s amazing that he still remembers Kian, who quickly became a low-ranked adventurer in East End.
Christy put her hands on her hips.
”You will become my knight, right? Then, at the very least, I want to know your background.”

Ignoring Christy, who was turning red by herself, Kian calmly continued to speak.
”As for the second thing, I would like to know myself. I was exiled from Azrael 15 years ago, and I’ve had no connection since then. When I first saw those guys in the street market, I only thought they were traveling performers. As for the third thing, I have no intention of doing anything to Her Excellency Maribel.”

When Kian answered seriously, Christy relaxed her shoulders as if bored.
She slipped past Kian and went out to the backyard, as if to wash her hands.
”That’s enough. Please take care of the bucket and cloth.”
”During the meal, I want to hear about you in school and your research on potions. Is that okay?”
”That’s fine, but… sigh, you’re a strange guy.”
Christy said this and snapped her fingers.
The pump by the water started, and cold water gushed out of the tap.

After that, the two waited for Maribel to arrive while having a combined breakfast and lunch.
Kian planned to tease Christy sexually after the meal, but Maribel appeared at the door just after noon.
Thinking she would come alone since Christy wasn’t there, she actually brought 2 guards with her, just like the last party.
She wore a white and gold dress for official duties.
”Christy!”
As the black-haired head magician opened the door, Maribel fell into her arms.
Christy caught the little princess and looked troubled.
”Manon. Did you sneak out during lunchtime?”
”Yes, I can’t keep Kian waiting any longer. ──Kian”
”Huh”
”I’m very sorry for making you wait so long, even though I called for you. I finally found some time to come here.”
”It is a great joy that Your Excellency has come personally.”
”I must repay the person who saved my life. It’s only natural. At the banquet, my steward McCutchen was rude.”

”Guard. Please give him a reward.”
”Yes… This is a reward from Your Excellency. Please accept it gratefully.”
The guards both look like young men who are not even 20.
Their skills are not very high.
Compared to the knights and guards that McCutchen had, they are quite lacking.
However, both seem loyal to Maribel, and without being pushy, they stepped back right after handing over the reward.
”Kian, thank you for protecting me from the assassin. It is thanks to you that Christy and I are safe.”

Kian paused and looked back at Christy, who was quietly listening.

”If she lets me stay at her place, I was thinking of using this as a base for a while. There are a few places I need to visit in this fortress.”

When Kian said that, Maribel smiled gently.
The smile of the young girl with blonde hair and dark blue eyes──Kian didn’t think he would feel anything, but he sensed a reaction in his lower body.
”There are 2 quests. Guard, a warrant.”

The guard showed Kian an expensive-looking scroll and read its contents out loud.
Kian frowned.
”‘Mutilation murder case’?”
”Yes. Two days ago, the owner of a bathhouse belonging to the East End Brothel Guild was found with his hands and feet severed. I have ordered the East End guard captain to investigate, but I need accurate information.”
”Is this one of the emergency messages that came in during the party 2 days ago? “
Kian asked, and Maribel nodded.
”Yes. If possible, I would like to fly with Christy and see the scene in person, but guard and McCutchen stopped me.”
”Of course.”
The young guard frowned.
Maribel ignored him and kept going.

”Please. Christy will be a bother, but I really need this information.”
”I understand. This is related to the other urgent news, right?”
”Yes…”
The young princess’s expression darkened.
She furrowed her golden eyebrows and looked back and forth between Kian and Christy.
