Volume 4 Chapter 2 New City Name And First Development Plan

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Upon arrival, Ines and Feria introduced a girl they wanted to hire as a maid.

The girl’s name was Dee, and she was from the Majin Clan.

With Milly’s permission, we decided to convert her into a Carrier.

Though it might seem strange to expand the harem so soon after becoming a Lord, she was cute, so I had no doubts.

After that, I decided to hold a meeting, summoning all members and related parties as soon as we moved to our new home.

Anyway, I thought we first needed to decide on the name for this town.

Having the town name ‘Eastern Garrison’ for Lord Noble’s main domain seemed poorly regarded, and I felt the residents wouldn’t grow fond of it.

I presented today’s agenda to the gathered members.

”Today, I brought everyone together to decide on the town name. Please share any suggestions. I think a name that’s easy for the residents to remember and feel attached to would be best.”

After hearing my words, the attendees started to have a lively discussion.

The first to speak up was, of course, the headstrong Feria.

”Kent Harem… I think Kent Harem sounds good!”

 Pfft!

 NO!

 No!

I can’t give the town a name like Kent Harem!

”Feria! Think carefully. It will be the town where our children live! Let’s not name town that children will point at.”

Milly thought that the name Feria was a bad choice and stepped in to stop them.

”I think Estfort is a good choice, since it’s a key town that protects the east side of the Great Wall.”

Ines suggested a safe town name.

Estfort is short and easy to remember, and it means eastern fort, so I thought it was a good name that would express the character of the town.

”What about a Hunter Nest? This town will be a gathering place for Monster Hunters, right?”

Milly also suggested a name for the town.

Milly’s town name seems suitable for a nickname, but it might lack a bit of dignity as an official title…

”I think Crimsonburg is great! It’s Kent’s color and would also be the base for Crimson Bride.”

Lina’s suggested Crimsonburg is simple and memorable, perfectly reflecting our Hunting Group’s base, Crimson Bride.

”Do we have any other options?”

”How about Famstadt? I think it would be a town with a high female ratio, so a name like ‘Garden of Women’ could work.”

 My mother-in-law suggested this.

She likely thought I would focus on creating a woman-centric town, but I don’t intend to favor women exclusively.

Men are also subjects, so I thought it wise to keep things as equal as possible.

Since opinions seemed to run out, I decided to hold a vote among the attendees.

 Overwhelmingly, we decided on Estfort.

Thus, the name of the base was set to ‘Estfort.’

”Nannie, please draft a proclamation for the subjects. Make it simple and easy to understand.”

”Yes, I believe there are subjects who may not read, so it would be better to also make an oral announcement.”

In the south, many people play Monster Hunter, which requires reading quest books, and the literacy rate is higher than other regions (30%), but it is still only about 50%.

However, among my subjects, the Godard Clan requires reading, writing and arithmetic from an early age, so when I asked Akebus, the literacy rate was 100%.

Crimson Bride’s literacy rate is also 100%.

The literacy rate of the Red Valkyries was reported to be about 70%, while that of volunteers from the Resident Defense Forces was about 50%.

I was surprised at the unexpectedly high literacy rate.

”According to reports, the literacy rate is surprisingly high, but I’ll make a verbal announcement anyway.”

”That’s right. It’s important for other regions to recognize that the Blackdagger family’s base is Estfort. We should say it verbally as well.”

”For now, since the name of the town has been decided, Lila and the others eagerly spread out the drawings on the round table.”

”Okay, Mr. Kent. Next, I’d like to explain the town layout, if that’s alright?”

”Please go ahead and present the first development plan that consolidates everyone’s opinions. There may be some adjustments based on this meeting, but the main points have been agreed upon by Mother-in-law and the others.”

”Understood. Everyone, please look at the drawings.”

As I looked at the drawings, I saw the current town layout of Estfort, which was previously a military base, drawn in solid lines, and the planned development area marked in dashed lines.

”First, the initial development will enclose the northern and eastern walls of Estfort with a large wall about 6 meters high, which is half of the great wall. This is to prevent weak monsters from entering from the north.”

The plan shows Estfort surrounded by a 5-hundred-meter square wall, extending north near the Indra Plains, east to the Opherest coast, and west to the Abyss Vena wall, while the southern wall will serve as part of the great wall, aiming for a 4-kilometer square area for the town.

In summary, it seems the plan is to center Estfort, protected by the eastern great wall, and establish a 2-kilometer area to the east and west and a 4-kilometer area to the north as the town.

”Where will the materials for the 8-kilometer wall in the east and north be sourced-nya?”

”Non-Non’s question is very reasonable. For now, we will prioritize the construction of the northern part of the garrison by reusing the stone materials that surround the current garrison. Even then, we will not have enough materials, so we need to find a stone quarry. It seems that the stone quarry from when the royal army built this land remains, so we plan to use that. We will also use stone for houses, so we should look for one more place.”

The quarry Lila was talking about was the one where the royal army procured stone materials when they built the eastern garrison.

If you walk about one kilometer northeast from here, you come to a small hill, from which it seems the stone was cut.

”Is the western region being substituted by the walls of Abyss Vena? Have we obtained permission from Lord Arbalest?”

”It’s fine, we’ve definitely received it. The kingdom may complain, but in the south, Sir Arbalest holds the same authority as His Majesty. Besides, no one is available to take on the dangerous duty of defending Abyss Vena, second only to the Felward fortress.”

My father-in-law, the Margrave, holds a title, but his rank is the same Baron level as mine.

Therefore, Abyss Vena is kingdom land, not personal territory of my father-in-law.

You could say Arbalest is like an administration officer dispatched from the kingdom.

I thought it would be problematic if such a person issued usage permits for kingdom land, but it seems my father-in-law intends to place either me or Milly as his successor.

From his usual behavior, he might be fed up with the current His Majesty the Demon Lord and his close aides who neglect the south.

”Well, if my father-in-law says it’s okay, then it should be fine.”

”That said, it’s a vast area. Will it be about the same size as Abyss Vena?”

”Yes, Beatrice. The area is nearly the same as Abyss Vena. So, in the end, I think it could become a city with a population of around 50 thousand.”

When Lila mentioned the final town’s population, I couldn’t picture myself as a lord over 50 thousand people at all.

If I were to be in charge of 50,000 people, would I have to struggle with paperwork like my father-in-law? Please spare me.

”Is the first development plan just the wall? What else will be built?”

”Linny, don’t worry. The first development plan will build the eastern and northern walls, the Lord’s castle, a joint hunter facility for the 3 guilds, a training ground and barracks for the Royal Army, and an office and dormitory for the Red Valkyrie and Hunting Group members. The rest of the housing and infrastructure is currently secured for 2,500 people, so we’ll use it as is for the time being.”

Lila’s proposed first development plan clearly outlines the area surrounded by walls for the town and prioritizes building our new home along with facilities for defense and Monster Hunter.

Indeed, it seems pointless to recruit a large number of settlers when the town shape hasn’t even been determined.

I think it’s fine to source workers from Abyss Vena, so Lila’s development plan seems perfect.

”That’s the full scope of the Estfort first development plan. Any questions?”

”Yes, excuse me, but does the joint hunter facility of the 3 guilds include a clinic?”

 Lana asked me the question.

It seemed she was concerned about the existence of a clinic.

”A clinic, huh… I asked Mr. Cefiro from magic guild to speak to Director Werner, but apparently he got mad saying, ‘Lord Kent plans to poach our female healer again!’ Did Mr. Kent do something rude to Mr. Werner?”

Lila asked me if I had done something to Werner.

The only thing I could think of was asking to make Lana, Talia, and Veris exclusively ours…

”I just borrowed 3 female healers. Was that wrong?”

”Yes, you see, healers are valuable. Director Werner would be angry if he lost 3…”

Lana voiced her thoughts upon learning there were no personnel dispatched from the clinic.

”As expected, Director Werner didn’t show up. That can’t be helped. I, Talia, and Veris will set up a branch clinic. In the last defense, several women from Godard were given the job of Nurse, so we will set up a branch clinic with them. For now, the Royal Army of Estfort, Crimson Brides, and Red Valkyries will be able to receive treatment for free, but everyone else will have to pay for treatment.”

”Do we need a fancy clinic in there?”

Lila checked the size of the treatment branch facility, which was not included in the plan.

”No, such a grand facility is unnecessary. Just 30 beds, an examination room, a mixing room, and a medicine storage will suffice.”

”Thirty beds… We could remove the private rooms from the second floor of the joint facility… and move the private rooms to the back on the first floor… but we’re short on space… maybe we should increase the size…”

 ”Mother-in-law, if it’s difficult…”

”No, we can do it, Mr. Kent. It will be a bit larger, but it’s fine. Since it’s the central facility, let’s make it bigger.”

 ”Thank you, Mother-in-law.”

It was decided that the joint facility of the 3 guilds would also include a treatment center.

With this, the Monster Hunters are expected to gather at this facility.

However, the shortage of healers is serious.

Even if it’s a branch clinic, having only 3 healers will be tough, and it will also become difficult for Lana and the others to accompany us on hunts.

The only options are to provide grants to train a large number of nurses and send them to take healer exams at Abyss Vena, or I could inject the magicians’ essence into random women to train them as healers who can take the healer certification exam.

However, the latter requires me to be highly motivated, and to be honest, I don’t want to do that because it’s quite exhausting.

It seems that the only option is to provide grants to support the training of nurses and help them prepare for the healer certification exam.

”We need to ensure we have enough healers as well. Many will likely get injured or fall ill during construction and hunts.”

”Mr. Kent, I will take full responsibility for their training. I’ll inform Mr. Werner about my appointment as branch director. Therefore, when the branch is completed, I will not be able to accompany you on the extermination missions as the branch head, but you may bring either Talia or Veris with you.”
