Volume 3 Chapter 7 Prediction of Occurrence

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 *Melon’s Perspective

On the way from Kashiwagi Manor to the Royal Capital, I asked Sir Aaron to investigate the details of the teleportation of the people at the manor through relay communication using the communication units installed at each station, and I was able to obtain the results while still in the Royal Capital about a week later.

So far, there have been no connection issues with the communication, which is a relief, but regular inspections and repairs of the relay stations will likely be necessary in the future.

By the way, I had to listen to and take notes on the audio readings for 300 people, which might have been the more challenging part.

The results were quickly handed over to Mr. Stanford, who seems to be attempting various analyses, but Lieutenant Reina mentioned that even with 300 samples, it might not be enough, and he seems to be struggling quite a bit.

However, about ten days passed, and our project team was summoned again.

It seems Mr. Stanford has drawn some conclusions, but before the meeting, Lieutenant Reina came over to speak with me.

”Ms. Melon, that magical communication is quite impressive. I appreciate that we will be taught that technology this time.”

”Ah, Lieutenant Reina. Normally, it would be a state secret, but since we are also being taught your country’s simple gate technology, the queen has granted special permission.”

”Indeed. If that communication can be combined with the simple gate, it will lead to revolutionary advancements in both information and human movement.”

”It will require a bit more improvement and testing before it reaches practical levels, but it would be great if we could develop it together in a positive way between our 2 countries.”

Eventually, everyone gathered, and the meeting began.

Mr. Sistemador interprets Mr. Stanford’s words through telepathy.

”The analysis was slow. At first, I thought that the naturally occurring gates connected this world with the other world one-to-one, but that didn’t match the results of the data analysis. Then, when I assumed that they were generated many-to-many, I got a result that was quite close to the results of the data analysis.”

There was a murmur of excitement from everyone in the room.

”Um, excuse me. It’s a bit hard to imagine… what do you mean by many-to-many?”

I raised my hand to ask.

”Imagine 2 large rooms separated by a long hallway. Each room has one door leading to the hallway, which represents one-to-one. In a many-to-many scenario, each room has multiple doors leading to different hallways. These doors can increase or decrease over time…”

”I see. That makes it easier to visualize. Fixing the gate means altering one of those doors to a constant state.”

 Baron Tethyrkan said.

”Exactly. We will fix a nearby gate in this room and infer the location of the opposite gate from the flow of mana, then apply the fixation spell there. However, that will likely only be one of the many doors on the other side.”

”I get it! That’s why even entering a gate without a tag can sometimes lead you to a different location. Yuuta and Mama Akari experienced that too…”

I said, and Stanford quickly interjected.

”They were getting out purely coincidentally. If you don’t specify the entrance coordinates with a tag, you won’t know where you’ll end up, and in the worst case, you might not even reach a door.”

”So, have you been able to predict the gate’s occurrence?”

Mr. Sistemador asked impatiently, and Stanford began to explain while spreading a large map on the table.

”Ideally, I would want a computer or at least a calculator, but I managed to work it out by hand. According to my prediction formula, there is about a 40 percent chance that a gate will appear at this location in 3 to 5 months.”

 Then Stanford pointed to… wait!?

 Tokura Village?

”I believe there is a high possibility of it manifesting in this mountainous area soon. There have been instances of humans being transported here.”

Stanford said, but that refers to Yuuta and Mama Akari. I never expected such a fateful connection… A special feeling welled up inside me. Noticing this, Baron Tethyrkan said to me,

”Melon, this may be a sign from the gods.”

 Mr. Sistemador raised his voice.

”Then there’s no time for detours. Let’s prepare and bet on Stanford’s prediction!”

* * *

”Your Majesty. The preparations are complete.”

 I signaled to the Queen.

I gathered the senators in the Queen’s office to demonstrate the magic communication.

The voice of Sir Aaron comes through the radio.

’Oh, Senate President Weinberger. How have you been? Or should I say, you’re still stubbornly alive? Over.’

”What a voice! And such foul language… Is that really you, Sir Aaron? So, Sir Aaron, you are currently at Kashiwagi Manor!?”

”Senate President, you mustn’t forget to say ‘Over’ at the end.”

I reminded him as Senate President Weinberger hurriedly added it.

Next, it’s Elder Brother Aaron’s turn to speak with the Queen.

’Asuka, it’s been a while. How do you find this communication? You should give Melon a medal or 2. Over.’

”I’m glad to see that Elder Brother Aaron is well… More importantly, I deeply appreciate everything during this series of events. Because of your support, both Ms. Melon and Karin-chan… and Ms. Akari have been able to look forward… Over.”

’That’s just what a lord ought to do. More urgently, please call Yuuta back as soon as possible, and while you’re at it, Claudel too. Without Yuuta, the management of the manor can’t run smoothly, and I can’t even take a proper nap. Over.’

Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we have a clear goal for the mission to capture the naturally occurring gate that will be generated near Tokura Village in a few months. Therefore, in order to ask the parliament for approval to work together with the Imperial Engineering Corps for a little while longer, we have asked the Queen and demonstrated the magical communication system we have created to Senate President Weinbecker and other members of the parliament.

Magic communication itself is not directly related to the gate, but the fixing of the gate is also an extension of this technology. It was a strategy to convince the elders of the council with a somewhat forceful explanation, but the results were excellent, and we succeeded in getting the council to approve our collaboration with the Empire’s technical team until the gate mission of Tokura Village was completed.

”Thank you, Queen. It looks like we’ll get the batteries sent directly from Kashiwagi Manor to Tokura Village in time, and our project team will gather the equipment to depart for Tokura Village next week. Karin insists on coming along as my assistant… or rather, she won’t take no for an answer. Please tell Big Sister Puruun to hold on a bit longer.”

”Understood, Ms. Melon. I’ll relay that to Puru. So… are you planning to install that communication equipment along the route to Tokura Village?”

”No. Our project team will prioritize heading to Tokura Village, so I recommend establishing a specialized unit for expanding the communication network in the future. There are still various challenges and issues to address…”

”Indeed. Eventually, we should collaborate with the Border Patrol Tax Collectors on this. The gate’s reconstruction won’t be complete by the time Mr. Yuuta returns, but as Ms. Melon mentioned, my belly has been sticking out more than usual lately.”

The Queen said, rubbing her slightly prominent belly.

Members of the project team, including the equipment necessary for gate capture and the Imperial Technical Corps, will head to Tokura Village as a special caravan led by Mr. Sistemador and Baron Tethyrkan.

This time, the Royal Capital military will provide bodyguards, and given the recent terror incident at Kashiwagi Manor, Ms. Sharlin will also accompany us.

Karin is fired up to work hard alongside her master, but honestly, she still has a long way to go.

In any case, this is the first time both Karin and I have been back home in over a decade.

I haven’t been in touch with you at all, but I wonder how you’re all doing.

That’s right. I have to visit my parents’ graves.

With these thoughts in mind, I left Royal Capital.
