Volume 2 Chapter 52 Quest: The Mirror That Sucks Magic III
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Application technique of ‘impact’: ‘pierce’. It deals damage to the inside, ignoring the opponent’s hard armor.
Kian unleashed 7 slashes, slipping past the mithril giant, and without letting his guard down, he turned and readied the Windsong Blade.
In his mind, it was perfectly executed.
The strikes targeted the neck, heart, joints of the arms and legs, and finally the torso.
In the past few days, his firepower had increased by absorbing magic power from Christy.
The Windsong Blade itself was deflected by the golem’s armor, but the energy (ki) should have definitely been delivered.
’Kian!’
(……!)
However, the mithril golem awkwardly turned its body and charged at him again.
It wasn’t effective──.
(Did it scatter the magic power on the armor before transmitting the ki with ‘pierce’? It’s tougher than I thought.)
The giant’s massive body approached.
A lifeless killing machine relentlessly pursued him, which was nothing short of terrifying, but for Kian, suppressing his own heart was second nature.
He dodged the descending powerful arm.
The withered thorns on the floor turned to dust and floated into the air.
He jumped to avoid the horizontally swung arm, stepping on the giant’s shoulder, and retreated behind him.
The giant, not losing sight of Kian, turned around and charged again.
(If ‘pierce’ doesn’t work, targeting the joints is fine. Due to the need for movement, the joints aren’t covered by very sturdy armor. In fact, they have some scratches.)
He makes some battle analysis.
While dodging the enemy’s piercing attack to the left, Kian focused on understanding the battlefield terrain and the enemy’s movements, not even sparing a moment to leap.
The attacks were monotonous.
Though it had excellent armor and its attacks were purely strong, it was just a mindless golem.
It didn’t learn from his movements and didn’t hesitate to observe cautiously out of fear of a surprise attack.
(To take it down, I need to crush the core, but the golem is humanoid and, judging by its attacks, moves similarly to a human.)
The golem shook off its arm, and a rock spear protruded from the ground.
While shattering it with the Windsong Blade, Kian lowered his body like a weasel and circled behind the giant.
He created confusion with his speed.
(The internal structure is complex. Magic power constantly flows from the core, its power source, to the limbs. Since mithril is a material that scatters magic power, known as ‘magic power killer,’ if the inside is entirely made of mithril, it should hinder the flow of magic power.)
In other words.
(The inside should be made of a material that allows magic power to flow easily. If I can strip away the armor at the joints──)
Kian caught a glimpse of the Tengu and the fox night wraths watching the battle near the ceiling.
(There’s a high chance they can checkmate the opponent.)
Woooooo──.
The golem let out a sound like a roar.
He felt hot air bursting out from what seemed to be the heat exhaust systems in its shoulders and elbows.
Since the giant has no vocal cords, the internal mechanisms must be growling to kill Kian.
Though it was a mithril golem, it truly sounded like a roar of steel.
”…, …, …!”
If the opponent is making a huge mechanical noise, then Kian responds with the scream of the Windsong Blade.
And with the basic technique ‘impact.’
He empowered the Windsong Blade.
The magic sword sucked in the dusty air of the room through the holes in its blade, letting out a higher-pitched scream than usual.
”────!”
His eyes widened.
What he was about to recreate was a movement from Azrael’s Dance Swordsmanship, designed to kill large opponents like orcs and beastmen.
Staying calm, staying grounded in the basics, he gathered magic power in his legs.
He then charged straight at the mithril golem.
The enemy’s joints creaked ominously.
But then, its fist was launched with precision.
”Sh──!”
He jumped up.
The Windsong Blade whipped up a gust of wind, supporting Kian’s leap.
He twisted his body mid-air, gracefully dodging the mithril golem’s fist.
In a fluid motion, he flipped upside down, his feet pointed toward the ceiling.
His sword arm remained steady, aimed directly at the golem’s neck.
In that moment, he looked like a spider descending on a single, invisible thread—silent, precise, and deadly.
This was truly a somersault.
Normally, Kian would leap over the opponent’s head to behead them, but this time he twisted his arm and slashed through the giant’s right elbow and armpit.
At the moment of contact with the armor, the energy (ki) was mostly scattered, but the remaining ‘impact’ and Windsong Blade still managed to crack the armor at the giant’s right elbow joint.
”──Hah!”
He landed.
”…!”
Then he turned around.
He drove his blade into the crack on the giant’s arm once more.
A grating sound echoed as metal was sliced.
(Now’s the time, do it!)
Following the master’s command, the fox mask night wraith that had been hiding on the ceiling dropped down.
It moved like a slithering snake.
The Night Wraith with the fox mask landed on the giant’s right elbow, clinging to it, and despite being scattered by the mithril, it entered the giant’s interior through the wound.
’────!!’
The mithril giant shuddered, freezing in place as if time had stopped, poised to take a step.
The Night Wraith inside had cut off the flow of magic power being sent from the core to the rest of its body.
After a few seconds, the sounds of the golem’s movements completely ceased.
The mithril giant knelt down, forcibly ending its magic.
Kian swung the Windsong Blade once, shaking it off, before sheathing it on his back.
”Did I do it?”
”No way… You took down that huge golem all by yourself!”
”Kian, is it safe to come out?”
”Yes, Your Excellency.”
He touched the inactive golem.
Its surface was surprisingly rough.
It was still a bit warm from having just moved.
From inside, he could hear the faint sound of the heating components cooling down.
”What exactly is this golem?”
Maribel approached cautiously with the guards, looking at the golem intently from beside Kian.
She stared at the golem.
”It seems this golem was the cause of the earthquake.”
”Perhaps. The golem was tied to the thorns. From the way it withstood the golem’s strength, it seems they weren’t just ordinary thorns… but now they have all withered away.”
”Thorns…”
Maribel frowned.
”Do you have any idea?”
As Kian asked, a young guard behind him spoke up instead.
”When you mention thorns, it must be that ‘Thorn Demon’, right? There’s going to be a duel at the Knights of the Sun’s naming ceremony, inspired by the legend.”
”So this facility is a relic of the ‘Thorn Demon’? What about this mithril golem?”
”But the ‘Thorn Demon’ was defeated 80 years ago, wasn’t it? Does that mean the previous Margrave family kept this basement a secret?”
”The records in the library didn’t mention anything about the basement. It might have been hidden, but what could be the reason for that? Eventually, the existence of this underground place will be known to us.”
Maribel looked up and scanned the faces around her.
”I will instruct the head magician to investigate. By examining the wear and tear on the walls, floors, and shelves, we might be able to estimate the age.”
”────”
As Kian listened to her words, he became aware of the wall in this large room that likely had a hidden door.
The golem here was probably a guard for a magic tool.
Even if the golem was defeated, the treasure room was hidden away, expecting explorers to leave satisfied.
(Maribel and the others should leave here. I will stay behind to explore the hidden room and take the treasures inside.)
If he finds the magic tool, it would end up belonging to the Margrave family.
In short, it would be theft, but as long as he doesn’t get caught, it wouldn’t be a problem.
The old Kian would have honestly mentioned the room in the back, but now, with the ‘glasses’ on, his thoughts were becoming twisted.
Being honest here would be the act of a fool.
”Your Excellency”
”Yes, what is it?”
