Volume 3 Chapter 9 Gate Emerges!

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 *Melon’s Perspective

Two weeks passed, but no signs connecting to the Gate were discovered.

During that time, we received word that the battery load had arrived from Kashiwagi Manor, so I returned to the village with Karin.

”That’s a huge load!” Karin gasped at the sight of three two-horse carriages hauling the cargo.

”First, we need to line them up somewhere and start charging. They’ve probably lost some power during transit.”

Each battery unit, roughly the size of a brick, had solar panels attached. Simply placing them in a sunny spot would allow gradual charging.

I asked Sodon for permission and lined them up in a corner of the village square, requesting the Royal Capital soldiers to guard them.

Finally… a sign of Gate activation!

When the report came, Stanford-san’s smug face was unforgettable. But the prediction was correct!

That alone made all the effort feel worth it.

No, no… it’s not over yet.

”Commence preparations for Gate stabilization! Everyone, carry your assigned equipment and move to the forward base!”

With Mr. Sistemador’s order, we, the Royal Palace mages and the Empire’s technical team, began readying our equipment.

Of course, I couldn’t carry that many batteries alone.

Karin, Ms. Sharlin, and the Royal Capital soldiers helped load them onto the carriages while I connected patch cables to each unit.

This way, we wouldn’t have to rush when setting up on site.

By the time I arrived at the site with the three carriages of batteries, the sun was already setting.

Torches were lit all around, and the project members who had left before me were already installing magic tools and equipment.

”Ah, Big Sister Melon. Look over there…”

Following Karin’s finger, I saw a spot where the mana shimmered between the trees on a slight uphill slope.

”Karin, did you really understand that? It’s true that the mana is fluctuating.”

I can tell, but I’m surprised that a human like Karin noticed it at this dusk.

”I think it will become a proper gate in a few hours. Everyone, prepare without delay!”

Mr. Sistemador said, but wait… connecting this battery is quite tough. I hurriedly connected the patch cables of the batteries with the other mages who were free. Karin and Ms. Sharlin offered to help, but I gently declined because it could be dangerous if they accidentally connected the polarity wrong.

”But… is it really okay to fix the gate in such an inconvenient place?” Ms. Sharlin asked curiously, and Mr. Sistemador answered her question.

”A successfully fixed gate can be moved. Well, that is assuming there is mana around… That’s why the one in the underground of Zerlant Royal Palace was originally fixed somewhere else and then brought there. It was more convenient for experiments that way.”

”Wow. So, is it for the royal family or VIPs to escape?” Ms. Sharlin muttered in disbelief.

”So, once the gate is fixed, will someone go to pick up my dad?”

 This time, Karin asked.

”Yes. But sending someone over there without knowing the situation is too dangerous. We have prepared for fixing the gate, but we haven’t prepared for further investigation. So, the fixed gate will be moved to the lab in the Royal Palace underground, and then we will prepare tags to send someone in.”

”I see. Dad, you have to wait until then…”

At that moment, Lieutenant Reina ran over.

”Mr. Sistemador, the gate is fully open!!”

”Great! Everyone, act as planned. Mages chanting the fixing spell, start your incantation. Melon, channel the battery’s energy into the fixing magical device!”

Following those instructions, I turned on the switch for the circuit in front of me.

”Hey, Karin. Ms. Sharlin. Just in case, could you step back a bit?”

”Huh? Is it really that dangerous?” Karin asked, looking puzzled.

”Well, it’s a one-shot deal. I’ve never sent this much electricity through before,” I replied.

Hearing this, Ms. Sharlin quickly grabbed Karin and stepped back.

Over there, the empire staff was monitoring the energy flow from the battery and reading it out loud.

”Current voltage has exceeded expectations. Everything is going smoothly!”

 Ah, that’s a relief.

I’m so excited I might get a nosebleed!

 So, what about the gate?

Right now, I can’t leave my post, but the gate up ahead is starting to glow brighter with a yellow light.

Nearby, the chanting team continued their incantations, and the magical tools set around the gate were glowing a faint green, powered by my battery.

”How’s it looking?” Lieutenant Reina asked, watching intently.

”Yeah, it seems fine,” Mr. Sistemador said, his expression brightening.

Soon, a loud voice came from the direction of the gate.

”Stability at 100%! The spell is complete!!”

 Whoa!

 We did it!!!

 Cheers erupted all around us.

”Alright. Next, we need to stabilize the other side. Everyone, stay alert!!”

This was right after Mr. Sistemador said that.

 ”Woooooah!!”

For some reason, Mr. Stanford, who was monitoring the stabilizing magical tools near the gate, suddenly jumped into the gate he had just stabilized while shouting!!

The mages and imperial engineers around were so shocked they couldn’t even speak.

”What!? Stanford. What are you doing…?” Mr. Sistemador shouted at the stunned Lieutenant Reina.

”Lieutenant Reina. We can deal with Stanford later! The gate we just stabilized is becoming unstable from the shock!! If this continues, it might blow apart… Mages, we need to hold it down! Melon! Max output!!”

 Eh!?

 Maximum output…That’s right!

 Mr. Saruza said that.

If you want voltage, it’s in series, and if you want current, it’s in parallel…No, which one is more necessary in the current case?

Liutenant Reina screams at me as I’m a nerd who is groaning.

”Ms. Melon. Make the 4 main outputs in series 2 at a time, and then parallel them!”

 I see!

I panicked and changed the patch cable.

This will increase the electricity output, but the rechargeable battery should be drained all at once.

I wonder if it will be in time?

It looks like the main gate is sparking a fire crackle from the main body…please.

 Stand well!

We need Yuuta to come back soon!!

 …

 Thirty minutes later.

We managed to hold the gate fixed.

But… to secure the gates on that world side over there, the rechargeable battery is empty.

And it turns out that Stanford, who was supposed to measure mana on that side, fell to the gate with some of the equipment we needed on his back, and we couldn’t immediately begin work.

”Sir Sistemador. I’m really sorry. I never thought Stanford would make such a violent act…” Liutenant Reina apologizes.

”No… he wasn’t decent to begin with. I had long known that returning to that world was his long-cherished desire… but I was letting my guard down too”

”So what will we do now? I’ll start charging tomorrow morning, but “

”No, Melon. There are not enough tools due to Stanford. Let’s pull up to Tokura Village with the fixed gate. After that, we all talk about what happens… but at worst, this side of the gate In this situation, you may have to take it back to Royal Capital.”

”So, what happened to Mr. Stanford? Did he make it back over there?”

 Karin asked Mr. Sistemador.

”I don’t know. All we can do is hope he safely got to that world,” he replied.

”Karin, don’t even think about jumping in there. We don’t even know if there’s an exit!” I warned, but Karin just rolled her eyes as if to say she understood.
