Volume 4 Chapter 22 Aftermath
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Sir Gwain. A letter has arrived from General Gertroud who was dispatched to the south.”
The Secretary who entered the office handed me a letter.
I received it, broke the seal, and opened the letter to read the contents.
The letter contained a report from Gertroud.
It detailed frustrations about the withdrawal of the southern dispatch troops led by my brother Arbalest, and it expressed grievances about the army being annihilated due to a large crack in space-time that lured them out.
”That Gertroud… ruining my reputation… it’s no different than Karvai now…”
I ripped up the finished letter and threw it away.
They’re all useless, every last one of them!
”Sir Gwain, what’s wrong?”
”Gertroud has annihilated the army. Now, I must organize a new force to send to the south hidden from His Majesty…”
”A new dispatch army…? Since I barely gathered personnel for the last dispatch, forming a unit of the same scale means we need to recruit volunteers from the citizens; we won’t have enough soldiers otherwise. Officers can be sorted out later.”
”I could recruit soldiers to help with unemployment… If I do that, we could reduce the would-be criminals and maintain order in the capital.”
In recent years, the royal capital had seen a surge in unemployment, leaving the town streets overflowing with the jobless.
They shouted their grievances loudly, spreading an air of unrest throughout the streets.
I decided to recruit these would-be criminals into the second deployment army and send them south.
That should help ease the growing unease in the capital—at least a little.
Besides, if they died like stray dogs, it would serve as a convenient means of thinning their numbers.
”Sir Gwain, that is an excellent idea. Then, for the officers assigned to this deployment, we shall select from those of questionable allegiance—members of the Majin Clan, Garuda Clan, Rakshasa Clan, and the like. It would be best to keep them far from His Majesty.”
”Yeah, we should send those guys who wouldn’t mind dying in the southern region.”
”Then, I’ll start organizing the second dispatch team right away.”
”I will report to His Majesty about creating a civilian patrol for employment measures. I’ll leave the paperwork to you.”
”Haha, leave it to me.”
The secretary nodded and left the office.
Once again, the troops sent to the south will be sent to abandon those who hold dissatisfaction against us, so I won’t care if they are wiped out.
Rather, I think it would be great if the soldiers we sent misbehave in the south.
Knock knock!
As I was lost in my thoughts, someone knocked on the office door.
”Who is it?”
”It’s Sven.”
”Come in.”
As the office door opened, a man dressed in a dark robe entered.
He is Sven, the head of my personal intelligence organization.
He only visits my office when there is an urgent matter.
”What’s wrong? Is there an emergency?”
”Yes, we’ve received serious information from the recently strengthened intelligence organization of the Black Dragon Dukedom.”
The Black Dragon Dukedom, led by Empress Fabulanova, is a powerful dukedom even in my True Demon Kingdom, and they often offer annoying opinions to me, who has gained power.
”Serious information?”
”Yes, it seems that the Empress has a daughter. Moreover, the father is the True Demon Clan’s Lord Clayd…”
Hearing this report, I almost had my mind blown.
It’s surprising enough that Fabulanova has had a child, but hearing that the father is the True Demon Hero Clayd was even more shocking.
Both of these two officially recognize [red].
In other words, the child of these two has a very high possibility of being [red].
At that moment, for the safety of the current His Majesty the Demon Lord Shifa, I thought I must eliminate the child between the two.
If I don’t do this, it will mean nothing that I married my daughter to Shifa.
[Red] If she grows and blossoms her ability, she cannot compete with [Purple].
In fact, neither Shifa nor I can stand against Fabulanova or Clayd.
[Red] The two of them didn’t participate in the royal succession ceremony ‘Grand Eight Tournament,’ which is why Shifa was able to become the Demon Lord. If either of them had run, Shifa probably wouldn’t have become the Demon Lord.
However, they kept their distance from politics, one staying in the territory and the other traveling, so they were completely off the radar.
”How foolish! The daughter of Fabulanova! And her father is Clayd! Where does this report come from?”
”Recently, someone who sneaked in as a maid at the Black Dragon Dukedom’s residence submitted it. The information seems reliable.”
”Tch, so how old is the daughter?”
”Yes, she seems to have turned 16.”
Sixteen… A child that was born before His Majesty became the Demon Lord… yet the two have been hiding and raising the child until now.
There must be something going on.
”What is her name?”
”The report states her name is Delprius. I checked the card information, but there are no registered females of the Black Dragon clan with that name…”
”No card information, you say?”
