Volume 4 Chapter 24 Negotiation
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”There are many female administrative officers being dispatched, aren’t there? In the central army, aside from the Asura Clan, one can’t hope for promotion, so they might have heard rumors about those who transferred early and applied to the secondary dispatch team aiming for a post in the southern army.”
As mother-in-law said, this time there are many female administrative officers.
Out of a hundred officers, about 20 are female administrative officers.
”Mr. Kent, I want to expand the bureaucrats, but can I add these 20 to the recruitment list? All their background checks are clear. They’re all serious workers. They have potential to develop their abilities.”
Mother-in-law had completed the background checks on the administrative officers.
It seems none of them are involved in any crimes, so I agree to add them to the recruitment list.
”Alright. Twenty it is. I’ll add them to the list. Also, does anyone have other candidates they want to include?”
Ane raised her hand.
”Your Excellency Kent, I would like to add 5 female officers with cavalry skills and 15 female soldiers to the list. I’ve asked Ms. Lila for their background checks, and they are clear. Please consider this for the expansion of the cavalry.”
”Female cavalry, huh? That’s the kind of talent Ane has been eager for. Understood, I’ll add them to the list. Is there anyone else?”
Kondrad was raising his hand.
”Lord Kent, may I request the recruitment of the siblings Alphonse and Veronica Schweiger?”
Looking at the military roster, these siblings haven’t achieved notable accomplishments as officers, nor do they possess any particularly unusual jobs or skills.
I wondered and asked Kondrad why he wanted to add them to the list.
”Why do you want to include these two, Kondrad?”
”Haha, Alphonse was a subordinate of mine and is skilled at organizing information. His sister Veronica was an officer adept at gathering intelligence. Their insights have been invaluable in executing General Gertroud’s strategies.”
It seems the Schweiger siblings were intelligence officers who assisted Kondrad, and their lack of military achievements was simply due to the nature of their work, which didn’t allow for such accolades.
”Intelligence officers who assisted Kondrad, huh? Then it seems they are worth adding to the list.”
”By all means, please consider it. If they have siblings, the Estfort army should become even stronger.”
I added the two to the list based on Kondrad’s recommendation.
”Is there anyone else?”
”I also have someone I want to recruit.”
Giuliana raised her hand.
”There’s someone I want to bring into our Hunting Group. I definitely want to recruit an officer named Lydiane. She has the same [Training Instructor] job as I do. For the sake of strengthening our members, I absolutely want her on the list.”
According to the military roster, she was a young infantry training instructor in the central army, but she seems to be a rare case participating in the southern dispatch team this time.
Kondrad mentioned that standard-level training instructors do not go to the field, but she might have had to for some reason.
However, looking at her abilities, despite her youth, she holds multiple jobs and possesses many skills, making her the top among the officers in this dispatch army.
”Indeed, she’s a competent individual. If she, with the [Training Instructor] job, joins the ‘Red Valkyrie,’ it should make training female hunters and soldiers much easier. Alright, let’s add her.”
”That helps. Our Hunting Group members will grow with this.”
Giuliana seemed satisfied to have Lydiane added to the recruitment list.
”Is everyone alright with the people on the recruitment list?”
Looking around, everyone nodded.
It seemed that the candidates they wanted to recruit had all been mentioned.
”Alright, then let’s start the recruitment of the listed individuals. This time, we’ll do it ourselves without relying on my father-in-law. The last transfer fee was quite hefty, so it’s best to save where we can.”
”That’s true. My stepfather tends to inflate the prices. He can secure the recruits, but…”
I don’t know what methods my father-in-law uses for recruitment, but he boasts an impressive success rate.
Last time, he successfully recruited a clerical female officer I wanted and charged me a transfer fee.
He might possess some skill that ensures successful recruitment.
”Leave the bureaucratic girls to me; I’ll have the bureaucrat’s daughter negotiate for them. They want to come on their own, so I can recruit them easily. You can handle their treatment.”
”Yes, I’ll leave the bureaucrat to you, Mother-in-law.”
The bureaucratic officers will be handled by Mother-in-law.
However, since these girls want to transfer themselves, the success rate is expected to be high.
”Leave the cavalry to me. If I show them our treatment and equipment, I believe they will gladly transfer.”
Ane was confident that if she approached those with the desired cavalry skills and showcased the treatment and full set of equipment, they would respond positively and transfer immediately.
It seems she wanted to emphasize that Estfort’s cavalry is well-equipped.
However, since there are many, I advised her to have her subordinates assist as well.
”Ane will be responsible for the cavalry negotiations. The equipment costs are budgeted, so don’t worry about that.”
”Understood.”
”Next is the Schweiger siblings; can I leave that to Kondrad? Is it alright to offer both of them the treatment of a company commander?”
Kondrad was surprised.
In the kingdom’s army, information officers are standard-level bureaucratic officers, so their salaries as fighter officers are not added.
Kondrad was astonished that I said I would recruit them with intermediate-level fighter officer treatment.
”W-wait! Is it really alright to recruit both of them with fighter officer treatment?”
”Yes, that just shows how important information is. If you want, I can offer the same treatment as Kondrad. It might ruin my superior’s reputation, though.”
”What! Treatment at the battalion commander level? I’ve never seen a general give such treatment to an information officer!”
I believe that for officers who gather information that will be crucial during battles, no amount of salary is too much.
With information, we can eliminate unnecessary casualties and defeat monsters.
It seems that this approach is likely to be more cost-effective.
”I have no intention of skimping on information.”
”Understood. I will definitely bring the Schwieger siblings under General Kent’s command.”
”Please, Kondrad.”
I appointed Kondrad as the liaison for the Schwieger siblings.
”Who will handle Lydiane? Is there anyone with connections?”
Everyone shook their heads in unison.
It seems no one has any connections.
Reluctantly, I decided to step in for Giuliana.
I promised to use my position and power as General to arrange a meeting and persuade her.
If worst comes to worst, I’m considering the drastic measure of using Carrier to extract her, but I want to keep that as a last resort.
”Lord Kent… I’m sorry, but I ask for your help.”
”Understood. Since it’s Giuliana’s request, I’ll do my best.”
With all the liaisons decided, we agreed to set a 2-week deadline for our negotiation activities and disbanded.
