Rising Monk V2c72-2

Volume 2 Chapter 72 The Conflicting Moon And Sun I

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

It’s an ordinary story, nothing special.

”It’s because I’ve lacked the ability as a warrior monk. You can check the records at the Adventurers Guild for My tachyonian cell count, and it will be clear at a glance.”

”But your body is overflowing with magic power. Your skills and personality are fine. In fact, you’re so excellent that I’d want you as a subordinate. Yet, why were you exiled? I don’t understand you. ──I wish to know more about you.”

”Lord Oswald, we’re straying off-topic. We should be more straightforward. Kian, we believe that the current Twelve Divine Generals, Jibril Vahid, are after your life.”

 ”I see.”

Kian replied blandly to Baron Waterman’s words.

Having already heard the truth from Natra, he had no choice but to respond in that manner.

”Kian Vahid, I will hand you over to Azrael!”

McCutchen shouted, spitting as he spoke.

 He continued irritably.

”I was originally against this! Accepting such a… troublesome seed. If handing you over would stop their attacks, then I would do so!”

”Wait, McCutchen. Such weak diplomacy is unacceptable.”

”My lady! You don’t understand! Just stay quiet and listen to what this McCutchen says!”

”No, McCutchen. I will no longer be your puppet.”

 ”What!?”

”Did you not hear me? I refuse to do something disgraceful like offering Kian to the rude intruders who have disturbed our peace and uprooted our windbreaks, saying, ‘I’m sorry, please put down your weapons.’”

”Your Excellency, what are you…!? The apostle has already breached our defenses! If we had made one mistake, we could have been killed! We must not offend that country!”

”So, you’re proposing we bow our heads to a terrorist training nation?”

”My lady, you are not seeing reality!”

”──I apologize if this is rude, but…”

Renaud, who had been silently listening until then, spoke in a low voice.

”Lord Steward, it is you who is not seeing reality, isn’t it?”

 ”W-what did you say!?”

”I completely agree with Renaud. Lord Steward, the enemy is likely the territory of the Twelve Divine Generals, who have ties with the Malc family. The Vahid family has a short history as the Twelve Divine Generals and their relationship with the Malc family is merely superficial. Considering Nizaam’s friendships, I believe it could be the Zaid or Nakash families.”

Oswald looked around at the others.

”The Twelve Divine Generals are not united. If the captured warrior monk ever speaks, it will be the enemy who finds themselves in a predicament when the truth of their blunders in our country comes to light. Kian has defeated the apostle and also broke the reinforcements from the allied families. If my reading is correct, the enemy should soon stop their hardline tactics and send envoys to negotiate with us.”

Just as he finished speaking, there was a knock at the waiting room door, and the head magician, Natasha, entered.

As everyone’s eyes focused on her, Natasha held up a letter she was carrying.

”From the Nakash family of Azrael. It seems to be a secret letter. Please, Sir McCutchen.”

”From the Nakash family? Let me see!”

 ”McCutchen, what does Nakash say?”

”…They are sending an envoy to apologize for the disturbance and explain the situation.”

The old steward quickly scanned the paper and continued.

”The series of disturbances is to flush out and rectify the organization posing as the ‘Azrael’s Death Sword User’ that is hiding in our country.”

”There are many organizations posing as ‘Azrael’s Death Sword User.’ They are easy to exploit precisely because they are famous.”

”What they are saying is the largest organization──an international crime group known as ‘Azrael’s Death Sword User.’ Recently, dismembered bodies were discovered in the East End.”

”It seems the situation is becoming clearer.”

 Oswald said quietly.

 Renaud snorted.

”The Nakash family believes that Kian Vahid is the one impersonating ‘Azrael’s Death Sword User.’ That’s why they are monitoring him and planning an attack.”

”Then it would be simpler to just hand him over!”

McCutchen raised his voice while pressing a letter into Waterman’s hands.

However, there was no one in the room who agreed with him.

”Lord Steward, if they say they will send an envoy, we should first listen to what that envoy has to say. It might be that the apostle they sent to assassinate Your Excellency Maribel made a mistake and is desperately throwing out the name of that organization. It would not be wise to believe everything they say and weaken our position.”

”And Kian is my prey. If I have to hand him over to Nakash, then let me duel him instead.”

”Fool! You do not understand the terror of that nation! There is nothing good about turning Azrael into an enemy, Sir Renaud!”

”Lord Steward, the enemy is not the massive trading nation of Azrael, but one of its factions, the Nakash family. The Malc family has already taken a stance of observation. There are no allies for Nakash.”

”Oswald is right. Regardless, I have no intention of listening to those who would raid my port. I cannot trust them.”

”Your Excellency, and you all… the one in danger of assassination is me! Do you understand!?”

”Ha! Can a nation’s representative be afraid of assassination? If that were the case, one must train oneself and strengthen their defenses,” Renaud said.

 ”……!”

”I, who can do neither, am in a great pinch.”

 Maribel said nonchalantly.

 ”I will protect Your Excellency.”

 ”Thank you, Oswald.”

”This is also a knight’s duty. ──Now, please inform one of my subordinates when further news arrives. I must change soon.”

”Thank you for your time despite being busy.”

”No, then I will take my leave for now. Kian, see you later. You will likely need to join me to welcome the messenger from Nakash.”

 ”Understood.”

Oswald gave a nod to Renaud and McCutchen before hurriedly exiting the room.

It seemed he had been waiting here at the very last moment.

’Your infatuation with the blonde shaved head is breaking through the ceiling.’

(I’ve been found out. I hope it doesn’t lead to trouble.)

’That indifferent attitude must be fueling his fire even more.’

(Please don’t say anything creepy. I don’t feel happy being liked by a man.)

While having such a conversation with ‘glasses’, McCutchen, who had been watching Oswald’s back, suddenly confronted Maribel with a fierce expression.

”Princess, it would be better to hand over Kian Vahid! There’s no reason to protect a mere lower-rank adventurer!”

”Kian is the eldest son of the Twelve Divine Generals. He is not just a lower-rank adventurer.”

”As Your Excellency says, he is skilled, loyal to his mission, and holds a grudge against Azrael, making him a valuable trump card.”

 ”But! …But…!”

”──Hehe. You are quite persistent, lord steward.”

Natasha said this for some reason with amusement.

”McCutchen, I understand your feelings well. However, it is our duty to keep our emotions in check and assess the situation calmly. Am I wrong?”

”This is the result of calm consideration! …Ah, what now!?”

McCutchen, scratching his white hair, turned his gaze to the guard who re-entered the room.

The guard flinched slightly at the steward’s shout but quickly offered a brief salute and stated his business.

”Lord Guillaume, who was late, was found to be absent when I visited his home.”

 ”W-What did you say!?”

”That’s absurd, the ceremony is about to begin. What are the chances of a mix-up, guard?”

”No, I regret to inform you, Lady Natasham but when I checked the arena earlier, it seems that Lord Guillaume has not yet arrived.”

”That bald fool! Where is he wasting time?”

”Have you spoken to the innkeeper where he is staying? How long has he been away from home, guard?”

”Well, it seems… it’s common for adventurers to be away for long periods, so they weren’t sure. They mentioned they hadn’t seen him for about a week.”

”But he was here 3 days ago. He participated in the rehearsal.”

”Yes… when I mentioned that, the innkeeper said he might have returned briefly to pick up his belongings.”

Waterman furrowed his brow at the guard’s words.

”Go back and get more details from the innkeeper. Then, those who are free should search the ceremony venue. Search every nook and cranny. He might be in the restroom.”

”What is that rude man doing?”

Renaud, who was listening nearby, let out an exasperated voice.

 Meanwhile, Maribel’s expression turned serious.

”I sent Fringilla to question him about his rude behavior the other day, but he was absent then as well. According to the guild and the landlord, ‘it’s common, he will return eventually.’”

”So he still hasn’t come back, Your Excellency?”

”No. He was absent when I visited yesterday. After that, I couldn’t follow up on his whereabouts due to dealing with Azrael’s apostle.”

”I will lend you my subordinate, Your Excellency.”

Renaud said this briefly and ordered the guard beside him, “Tell my son to search for Lord Guillaume.”

 McCutchen rubbed his temples.

”We must consider what to do if he doesn’t arrive. Can we set up a substitute?”

”His presence at noon is dangerous. If we are to fight, it must be someone who knows Oswald’s sword techniques. For now, please report to Oswald that Guillaume is delayed.”

 ”Understood.”

 The guard bowed and left.

 Waterman furrowed his brow again.

”What a situation. I can’t believe such an ignorant man exists. If he remains missing at this point, he must have been frightened and fled.”

”Guard, the 3 of them haven’t arrived, have they?”

 ”Yes.”

”We cannot move the security troops… McCutchen, has the head of the adventurer guild around the fortress already arrived in the VIP seating?”

”What do you intend to do?”

Maribel was already heading towards the door of the room.

”It’s decided. I will temporarily borrow the staff from the adventurer guild’s escort. They are far more reliable and cost-effective than borrowing from some noble.”
