(It’s been a while since I’ve seen this combination.)

While thinking this, Kian bows as Maribel rushes over, shouting loudly.

Not only in terms of their relationship, but visually, Christy suits Maribel perfectly.

”Is that the familiar that Waterman spoke of?”

The blonde young princess directed her dark blue eyes towards Natra and Tengu.

Natra had long since knelt down, and had also grabbed Tengu to bend their neck together.

 ”Yes, that’s right.”

”I was unaware that Kian had such a familiar.”

”Actually, I had it summoned before when I fought the mithril golem.”

”I see. I thought you had severed an arm when the golem stopped moving, so I was quite bewildered…”

”Your Excellency, the ceremony is about to begin. It would be best if you returned to your seat.”

”We came to see you out of concern.”

Christy peered at Maribel with a worried expression behind her.

”Are you okay? It’s fine to look bad, but if it’s dangerous, just admit defeat early. Forget about appearances. Life is what matters, you know?”

 ”I understand. Thank you.”

”Kian, due to our lack of management, we’ve caused you trouble again. I sincerely apologize.”

”No. Please lift your head, Your Excellency.”

”…My lack of thoroughness has led to this result. I should have conducted a more extensive search when I confirmed Lord Guillaume’s repeated absence the other day. That way I might not have been caught off guard.”

”Do not only regret the past, but use this failure for the future. Don’t overly blame yourself.”

 ”…Thank you…”

”More importantly, is Lord Guillaume alright? He hasn’t arrived at the ceremony yet?”

”Yeah. He’s been absent for a while, and when I asked the Adventurer’s Guild to disclose his personal information, it turned out that his party hasn’t received any Quests for the past week.”

”Is the real Guillaume missing? I can’t believe that the ambitious Lord Guillaume would flee before the enemy.”

Kian thought, even as he considered that Guillaume might sometimes be blown by the winds of cowardice.

He had been pelted with horse manure, burning his hair and gear.

During rehearsal, he had doused Oswald with foul oil, but this time, he might not escape without his hearts being set ablaze in retaliation.

It wasn’t out of the question to fear such a fate and flee the country.

”Manon, we should get back to our seats soon.”

 ”Yes…, that’s true.”

”And, Kian, please be careful. If you get burned, I…, I will kill Oswald and then die myself.”

”I appreciate your feelings, thank you, Christy. Your Excellency, please make sure to hold this troublesome witch back if she rushes ahead.”

 ”Who’s the troublesome one!”

 ”Kian.”

Maribel hesitated before calling Kian’s name.

After a few seconds of silence, she made up her mind and wove the words “Kian” once more.

 ”Yes, Your Excellency.”

 ”Kneel there.”

 ”Huh…? Yes!”

 ”Please hand me your sword.”

 ”But it’s heavy.”

 ”It’s fine. …Ah.”

 ”Wait, Manon! That’s dangerous!”

 ”I’m fine, Christy.”

Gripping the hilt of the longsword, Maribel stood before Kian, dragging it slightly.

 ”Your Excellency?”

”You are a mysterious person, Kian.”

Maribel’s dark blue eyes were trembling.

 She continued.

”Brave, kind, responsible, and always naturally teaching me, who lacks so much. Bold, a bit inscrutable, yet still kind and a good person. Before I knew it, I found myself often following you with my eyes. ──Kian, I believe you are the very model of a knight. It may seem like child’s play to you, but as one inspired by you, I wish to send you courage as thanks.”

Maribel gathered strength in her slender arms and lifted the longsword.

Christy hurriedly tried to lend a hand, but Maribel stopped her with, “It’s okay.”

She prefaced with, “This is unofficial,” then laid the sword horizontally and tapped Kian on the shoulder.

It was the only moment when the knight received the sword without resistance.

Undoubtedly, it was a ceremony mimicking the knight’s accolade.

Maribel opened her pink lips and began to chant in a clear, resonant voice.

”Fear not, stand against the enemy.

 God loves courage and justice.

 Aid the weak.

 Never abandon your comrades.

Even if it leads to your own death.

Protect the people and land of Izerland.

Remain the guardians of law and conscience.

 Do what is right.

 So, swear.”

If following the knightly accolade ceremony, Kian would respond with, “I swear,” and Maribel would slap his cheek to remind him not to forget the oath.

Kian answered with his eyes still downcast.

 ”I swear.”

The tip of the sword fell to the ground.

She had removed one hand from the hilt to slap Kian’s cheek.

Kian stared at the silver tip, shallowly gouging the earth.

 ”…chu.”

 ”Huh?”

But what followed was not the impact of a slap.

It was simply the sweet and soft sensation of lips.

Her long golden hair gently drifted away from Kian.

”Th-this is… a reminder so you won’t forget your oath!”

 ”────”

 ”W-what, wh-what, whaaat!?”
