Apocalypse Saga 59

Chapter 59 Old Suals Fortress

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Babellion Western Region Border Es-Cara Fortress.

This fortress, which is a key defense point for the Ravendora Empire in the west, is now owned by Babellion, and the Second Army is in charge of its management and defense.

The Es-Cara Fortress is a human facility. If it is to be used as a defense base, it must be adjusted to fit the size of Monsters instead of humans. However, if the size is doubled for Monsters, the size of the fortress would also double, and it’s not something that can be easily remodeled. Therefore, a new Es-Cara Fortress for Babellion is being built next to it, and the existing fortress is just a temporary base that is planned to be demolished.

In the hallway of such a fortress, the Second Army’s deputy officer, Morloi the red lolita gaki, was running. The hallway of the fortress, where most of the Second Army soldiers had to bend down as if they were exploring a cave, was not a problem for the small-statured Morloi among the humans.

Morloi dashed through the hallway with light, quick footsteps and burst open the door to a grand room at the back of the fortress.

”Goldie-chan!! A message from Babellion just arrived!!”

 ”Huh? What is it!?”

Startled by the door opening without a knock, Goldgang, who was in the room, jumped up from the bed.

Morloi, realizing he had surprised Goldgang, tried to apologize with a “Sorry~,” but upon seeing Goldgang, he grinned and said,

 ”Oh? Were you playing, Goldie-chan?”

Goldgang was completely n*ked. Not only that, but his gray skin was sweaty, and he seemed to be breathing heavily. It was no wonder Morloi was jumping to conclusions; it was a strange sight that could only be interpreted that way.

”Come on, Goldie-chan, it’s pathetic for someone like you to be sneaking around holding your… you know? Just wait a bit longer since you asked for a pr**titute to come over.”

”Don’t be stupid. I just got hot while working out and took my clothes off to lie down.”

”Hmm, is that really true? You don’t smell fishy at all? *Sniff sniff*~★.”

”Shut up. I don’t care about that. Just read the order from Babellion!!”

Goldgang raised his voice at Morloi, who continued to tease him with a grin.

 ”Alright, alright, Shikordi-chan.”

 ”…I’ll kill you.”

Goldgang glared at Morloi with anger.

”I’m just joking, you know? Morlie-chan is so scary I’m shaking~❤︎.”

But Morloi’s teasing didn’t stop. After saying that, Morloi put a hand to his mouth and exclaimed,

”Could it be that Goldie-chan want r*pe me? Oh no~❤︎ My poor bottom will be ruined… And Morlie-chan is a lovely and graceful magic ‘girl’ who loves to dress cute, but dealing with guys is a big no~★.”

Goldgang glared at Morloi, who was blushing and twisting his body playfully, filled with anger. But then he let out a big sigh and scratched the back of his head. Once again, he sighed heavily, as if the floor might collapse under the weight of it, and said,

 ”…Hurry up and read.”

Goldgang and Morloi never really fight seriously.

They have a long relationship and understand their boundaries.

Morloi puffed out his cheeks a little, looking slightly bored, and cut the seal on the envelope he was holding.

”Okay, let’s see… the sender is from the Western Command Office. It’s not a personal order for Goldie-chan, but a command for the Second Army.”

 ”Oh, what’s it say?”

As Goldgang asked, Morloi read the letter and began to share its contents.

”Um, it looks like a group of Goblins has made a nest at the old Stuls Fortress. There’s a chance they could be bandits too, so His Majesty has ordered us to eliminate them quickly――”

 ”What!?”

Morloi’s words were cut off by Goldgang’s roaring voice.

”His Majesty gave the order!? To me!?”

Goldgang reacted to the part about “His Majesty.” He had thought it was just a routine order from the Western Command Office, but now his blood was boiling with excitement.

”It’s not just for you, it’s for the Second Army…”

Morloi shook his head, trying to clarify that it was an order for the Second Army and not just for Goldgang personally, but Goldgang wasn’t listening anymore.

”With an order from His Majesty, I can’t just sit around!”

Goldgang jumped up from the bed with energy. He grabbed the clothes scattered on the floor and hurriedly put them on.

”Wait, we’re not done talking yet! It says to visit the nearby village and build some goodwill…”

”I’m going to take care of that Goblin or bandit right away. You just handle the villagers’ negotiations or whatever.”

”Wait up!! Morlie-chan and Goldie-chan absolutely can’t be separated… Ah, fine, I guess. At least go with the First Unit. Morlie-chan will follow right after!”

Goldgang burst out of the room with the force of breaking down a door. Even though he had no idea where the Goblin was hiding, he rushed out without thinking, making Morloi tremble with anger.

 ”Ugh, this is so frustrating!!”

Morloi chased after Goldgang to pull the reins back again, giving instructions to the unit to follow Goldgang, including the location of the old castle.

Then, to make sure he could follow quickly, he ran off again to give orders to the Army officers remaining at the fortress.

* * *

A black horse carrying Goldgang raced across the plains. The hooves of the pitch-black giant horse kicked up the earth, creating clouds of dust, making it look like a tornado was sweeping through.

Ten riders followed behind Goldgang, who was leading the way. This was the unit assigned to accompany Goldgang instead of Morloi.

Morloi was not present at the moment because he had various tasks, such as giving instructions to the Army officers remaining at Es-Cara Fortress and dispatching a team to inform the nearby villages about the Goblin extermination.

Although it wasn’t an ideal situation for Goldgang and Morloi to be temporarily separated, no one pointed that out at the moment.

 ”What’s the plan?”

A group was approaching the old Suals Fortress, located south of the Es-Cara Fortress, when a knight asked Goldgang, who was leading the way.

”There’s nothing to worry about. We’ll just smash through the front.”

”That’s not a good idea. There are ten of us, but the enemy has more. If we let any goblins escape and they attack a nearby village, we’ll be the ones in trouble.”

”That’s right, commander. If we do a sloppy job, we’ll get scolded by the higher-ups.”

Goldgang murmured a small “Yeah” in response to his subordinates’ words. He understood that the goblin extermination was ordered by Babellion, and it had political implications beyond just keeping the area safe.

”Well, then, you two, Pongy, and Ditt will stay outside. If any of those cheeky ones try to run away, catch them and kill them.”

The soldiers chosen by Goldgang nodded. Some looked a bit disappointed that they couldn’t cause any chaos, but Goldgang didn’t mind and urged his horse forward.

Before long, the destination came into view. However, the old Suals Fortress was a ruin. It didn’t have the grand appearance of slowly rising from the horizon.

As the soldier assigned to deal with the fleeing goblins headed to his designated spot, Goldgang jumped off his horse. He looked over the fortress while carrying his battle axe on his shoulder.

To prevent misuse after abandoning the fortress, all the walls had been torn down. So, unless someone said it was a fortress, they probably wouldn’t recognize it; it had changed that much.

The old Suals Fortress had not served as a castle for over a hundred years, and its roof and walls had crumbled. Moreover, most of the fortress had been swallowed by the forest, turning it into a slightly mysterious ruin where moss-covered stone walls coexisted with trees.

Goldgang stepped into the old Suals Fortress, one step at a time. He looked around, paying attention to his surroundings.

In Goldgang’s view, there were no Goblins. Only the quiet of the forest, with the rustling of trees and the chirping of small birds.

However, Goldgang could definitely sense that something was there. Deep in the forest’s scent, there was a foul smell mixed with waste.

Goldgang took a deep breath while holding his battle axe.

 ”ROOOOAAARRRR!!”

Goldgang’s roar echoed high into the sky, shaking even the clouds above.

The heavy warrior job’s [Warrior’s Roar] was a tank skill that focused enemy attention while increasing physical and magical defense. The moment Goldgang’s roar was released, a small shadow appeared from behind the exposed rubble.

It was a small monster with dark green skin. Some were covered in fur like clothing, but most were completely n*ked, running with their private parts swinging. They carried clubs and rusty weapons or farming tools they must have picked up, gathering together while making unintelligent beast-like sounds.

”Just as I thought, a horde of Goblins!!”

Goldgang bared his sharp teeth and grinned. With excitement, he raised his 2-handed battle axe and swung it down wildly, creating a massive whirlwind that shook the large trees.

And that whirlwind was not just for show.

The whirlwind, wrapped in slashing energy, attacked the group of Goblins while tearing into the ground. As the slashes struck, the Goblins’ bodies were sliced apart like vegetables, spraying misty blood and sending chunks of meat flying into the air.

Right now, Goldgang would say this isn’t a fight at all. It’s a one-sided massacre by the mindless Monsters, not even at the level of a warm-up.

But Goldgang was excited. There was a smile on that fierce face. The reason was simple: he was swinging his axe for Charles.

 ”Not done yet!!”

Goldgang’s thick legs kicked the ground, and his huge body soared into the air with ease. The sunlight shone on his battle axe, reflecting a deadly light.

 ”[Dokkoi Sho (Super Powerful Shock)]!”

The moment the heavy black iron struck the center of the Goblin settlement, a deafening explosion echoed, and a shockwave rushed through. The ground shook, debris crumbled, and the trees rustled, screaming. Goblin flesh flew apart like it was ground up in dust, and the blood burned before it hit the ground.

 ”ROARRRRRRR!!”

Goldgang let out another roar. The few remaining Goblins were stuck to the ground. Forced together by the skill, the Goblins couldn’t even turn their backs.

Like summer bugs diving into a fire, the Goblins raised their clubs and charged at Goldgang. There was no feeling of being forced or wanting to escape. The low-intelligence Goblins just followed the skill and closed in on Goldgang.

 ”Take this!!”

The battle axe swung sideways, feeling no obstacles as it turned the Goblins into chunks of meat.

 ”Commander, there’s one behind you!!”

A green shadow loomed in the corner of Goldgang’s vision. A Goblin, its anger boiling from the slaughter of its comrades, bared its yellowed teeth and lunged at him.

 ”Gya gya!”

What caught Goldgang’s attention as he turned around wasn’t the rusty dagger raised in the Goblin’s hand, but rather the Goblin’s swinging member between its legs.

 ”That’s disgusting, you little pest!!”

He didn’t even swing a weapon anymore. With a swift motion, Goldgang slapped the Goblin’s head, making a dull sound as something elastic snapped and its head flew off.

”Hey, Bringham!! Why didn’t you tell me sooner, you idiot!”

Goldgang wiped the Goblin’s blood off his palm as he turned and shouted.

”Well, I thought Commander would notice, but you seemed pretty clueless.”

”I wanted to see Commander suck on a Goblin too.”

”Still, doing it all by yourself isn’t right.”

 ”That’s true.”

”Well, fighting enemies that have no intelligence is boring anyway.”

The soldiers gathered, grumbling. While Goldgang’s roar was terrifying enough to stop hearts, the soldiers of the Second Army just laughed and teased him back.

”You knew this was like pest control from the start, right?”

 ”Yeah, I guess.”

 ”But still…”

 ”Can’t we have a little more excitement…?”

It’s not an exaggeration to say that the soldiers of the Second Army were a bloodthirsty group of berserkers, always ready for a fight.

However, ever since they were transported to this other world, their days have been boring. The occupation battle for the old capital Lemar has kept the First Army waiting inside Babellion, and even the Es-Cara fortress, which finally got its turn, ended up surrendering after just a one-on-one duel.

In the midst of this, the chance to fight finally came. The task was to clear out a horde of goblins, which felt pretty pointless, but it was better than being bored inside the fortress.

”Stop complaining and go find those hiding goblins!!”

 ”Yeah, yeah.”

”Looks like whack-a-mole turned into hide-and-seek.”

 ”Is that really our job?”

 ”Seriously.”

But the soldiers kept complaining, and Goldgang’s frustration was rising too.

”This is an order from His Majesty, you know?”

 ”Huh? Is that so?”

”Why didn’t you say that earlier? Ah, now I’m really motivated.”

 ”…Damn idiots.”

 Goldgang sighed in exasperation.

”Make sure to count the goblins, okay?”

”…Do we have to do that?”

On the ground, there were scattered chunks of goblin flesh. They were mixed up into ground meat, and many of them no longer even resembled bodies.

”It can’t be helped. We have to report how many there were to the Western Command Office.”

”…That’s kind of annoying. Let’s go to that brōtḥel Commander likes next time.”

”Yeah. It’s the one called Heaven Blossom, right? Lilika or something?”

”Did you know? That place allows multiple partners for guys.”

”Seriously? Then let’s do a play where we sleep with Commander’s girl.”

 ”That’s Marilyn Monroe.”

”‘Hey, tell me which feels better, mine or commander’s…’”

”‘Ahh, it’s Bringham’s-sama, it feels so good!’”

 ””Gahaha!””

The soldiers were rolling on the ground, laughing, but Goldgang was once again filled with rage. His face turned bright red with anger, and the veins on his forehead looked like they were about to burst and spray blood.

”Shut up! If you don’t want to get killed, get the hell out of here!!”

With Goldgang’s furious shout, the soldiers scattered like spiders, disappearing deep into the ruined castle.

Goldgang stared at their backs for a while. His fists trembled with anger, unsure of when to strike down.

 ”…They really are hopeless.”

Goldgang let out a sigh mixed with frustration. He took a deep breath to calm his raging heart and looked around to see if he could sit and wait somewhere…

”Are you not going to do anything?”

Suddenly, a voice entered Goldgang’s ears. It was a young man’s voice. He couldn’t immediately tell who it was, but it was a familiar voice.

”I’m fine. I’m not good at counting anyway…”

So Goldgang reflexively replied. Then he turned around to see who it was.

 ”Huh, Your Majesty!?”

He was shocked to see the person there. The surprise made him fall back into the goblin’s blood and mud.

”Your Majesty! Why are you here?!”

In Goldgang’s eyes was the figure he deeply respected, the creator and ruler, Charles.

He shouldn’t be here, but there he was, without a doubt.

The moment he realized that, or rather, because his brain couldn’t process it right away, Goldgang took about ten seconds before he hurriedly got up. But then he thought he shouldn’t stand, so he fell back down to one knee. He was still on the goblin’s blood and mud, but he no longer cared about getting dirty with pieces of flesh or organs.

On the other hand, Charles was very quiet. He just stared at Goldgang.

”Why do you think that is?”

 Charles asked.

”Eh!? Ah… umm… oh, could it be that His Majesty came to fight alongside us? In the previous world, His Majesty was always on the battlefield too… Ah, but it’s already over, so what do we… do…”

Goldgang’s words trailed off as he waved his hands around in a panic. He felt a strong sense of discomfort, or rather, an unfathomable fear. His body, which didn’t even tremble, was covered in goosebumps as he cautiously raised his gaze to check Charles’s face.

 ”…His Majesty?”

The Charles Goldgang knew was a terrifying yet charming lord. He was a cold ruler, but he would say that his subordinates were like his children. Goldgang also felt the love that Charles had for his followers, like a parent’s love for their child.

However, the face of Charles that Goldgang saw was completely expressionless. The gaze, colder than a mask, made him feel as if he was frozen just by being looked at. It was a look he had never received before, one that seemed to see him not as a child, but as trash────.

”I came here to bury you.”

 ”…Huh?”

And as Charles spoke with a cold glare, Goldgang couldn’t believe his ears.

Goblin = No need to wear anything but a loincloth. Haha, so in this work, the Goblin is basically completely n*ked. It’s a monster that jumps at you with its dangerous parts swinging around, haha!
