”Hey, Hyakudou, can I talk to you for a sec?”
While I was working out in the room, Kashiro called out to me. I got off the pull-up machine and wiped my sweat with a towel.
”…You really bought this, huh?”
”Back muscles are hard to train.”
”I think you already have enough muscle, though.”
”Consistency is key.”
Also, there are no games to play, so I have nothing else to do. I don’t have a smartphone, can’t listen to music, and my hobbies are completely shut down. On weekends, I used to go camping or hiking with my big sister, but I don’t want to do that on an island with Demonkind.
”So, what’s up?”
”I tried to organize some info. After listening to Aoki and Sakuramiya, I got a better idea of what our classmates are up to.”
Kashiro shows me something like a class list. It looks like there are a few groups besides ours, so it’s probably a good idea to discuss this.
”Should we gather everyone? Thanks for going out of your way.”
”It’s for my own sake too, so don’t worry about it.”
In an environment without computers, she made this by hand. It must have taken some effort. It seems she did some digging too, so I really appreciate Kashiro.

In the Living Room of the Base, Kashiro looks at the class roster she made.
Looking at it this way, our group is a big force. Maybe it’s because of ‘Base Magic’ that we can live efficiently.
”Information is coming in.”
”Looks like we’re getting quite a crowd.”
Kashiro seems a bit annoyed. She probably doesn’t like crowded places.
Also, I had a question while watching… The one who gave info about Takaizumi was the princess, right? I appreciate it, but it’s strange that she met the handsome Takaizumi and isn’t hanging out with him.
”Did the princess not go after Takaizumi?”
”When I tried to control him, the Holy Sword’s power stopped me! Tsurué said something about a Hero, so Takaizumi seems to have special powers.”
”Even if you couldn’t control him, didn’t you want to team up?”
”Well, the Holy Sword’s magic seems to attract Demonkind… I didn’t want to fight, so I ran away.”
So she prioritized her life over the handsome guy. That’s so like her.
”What about Nijou’s group?”
”I don’t like that girl. She acts all high and mighty just because she was born into a rich family.”
”Well, she is from the upper class, so it can’t be helped.”
”Ms. Tōmi was treated like a star just for being an idol. I’ve done modeling too and I’m super popular on streaming apps.”
”Are you really competing with professional idols? How competitive can you be?”
Actually, my family is pretty wealthy too, so I have connections with Nijou and Shiragi’s families. We even had a meal together with our parents right after joining the Academy, so we’re not strangers. If this gets out, I might end up being disliked by the princess.
”It’s funny how Kajihira (Kendo club leader) was constantly trying to hit on Ms. Tōmi. I bet he’s totally after her on This Island too.”
Kajihira, huh? He was such an obvious troublemaker. He was strong-willed and violent, always hanging out with Tatejima and Ashihara, causing trouble. But even with that, he was good enough to compete in the national Kendo tournament, so he’s a real pain if he becomes an enemy.
”I feel like he’s already causing problems, so I’d rather not get involved.”
”Isn’t it fine? He got beaten up by you once and has been scared ever since, Hyakudou.”
The princess laughs cheerfully.
Just like she said, I had a fight with the Kajihira and Ashihara pair before. They picked a fight over something small, and I remember being grabbed by my collar. Since then, Ashihara has held a grudge against me, and Kajihira has been avoiding me. Because of that incident, I became a bit of a notorious figure at the Academy, and it’s not a good memory.
”If it’s just a fistfight, that’s one thing, but when magic gets involved, it never ends well. It’s such a hassle; I could just kill him on sight.”
When I said that, Hiiragi had a big smile on her face. In contrast, the class rep looked serious.
”Killing without talking it out is a bit much. He might have changed his ways.”
”Yeah, I kind of agree with the class rep. No matter how bad a guy is, I want to at least hear what they have to say.”
Hiiragi (the maid) let out a dramatic sigh.
”Geez, this is why you two softies are a problem. In the world of killing, it’s always about striking first. If you want to survive, you have to take them out the moment you meet. That’s the basics of survival.”
”You’re really deep into the world of violence.”
You can’t survive in the Island of Trials without being like this. I get that, but in Hiiragi’s case, she’s already halfway into being a madman. Right now, Hiiragi has killed the most classmates. Out of the 9 dead, she’s responsible for 3, and it looks like she might kill another 1/3 this time too.
”Can Hyakudou really kill classmates?”
Kashiro throws out a big question.
”Technically, it’s possible, and if I did it, I wouldn’t even flinch… but it depends on the situation. Unfortunately, I don’t have any experience with killing, so I can’t say for sure.”
But well, I can’t just keep saying weak stuff.
”But I promise this: if they target my friends, I will kill whoever it is.”
If it’s just me being targeted, I might let it slide. But if someone tries to kill my friends… even if it’s Aoki, I won’t hesitate to kill.
”Well, I guess that’s a passing grade. Mr. Hyakudou’s death would also mean our deaths, so I wish you’d take care of yourself a bit more.”
Hiiragi stares at me with her red eyes and dramatically shrugs her shoulders.
”Koushi, when you’re on the Island, maybe you should go back to being the wild Koushi from back then.”
Mayuki chimes in with unnecessary comments.
”What are you talking about? I’ve grown up now; I can’t go back to being a mischievous kid.”
”You used to call yourself the Grim Reaper and always wore black, right?”
”That’s what you’re going with? Don’t expose my dark history. It’s seriously embarrassing, so stop.”
”You stopped as soon as your big sister found out.”
”Yeah, she looked really sad about it. Even as a kid, it was shocking, and I never called myself that again.”
Looking back now, the whole Grim Reaper thing might not have been a joke for my big sister.
