Dark Noble 95

Chapter 95 The Request To Isabella

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The next day, I heard from a Midnight Fangs member that Wollek had visited the Almira house and White Lily Cafe, and I felt relieved. For Lana and Claire, this was a good development.

All that was left was the meeting with Isabella. When Claire asked me what to do about Sword, I replied that it was difficult to punish them at this stage――but that was only in terms of criminal punishment.

I wonder how Isabella will react when she hears about this. It’s going to be fun.

By the way, I’ve already contacted Lana about consulting with Isabella. Dupont is a big company, and if they were to suppress the incident, it would be troublesome. So, it’s better to get Isabella on our side.

”Yeah, Alba came up with the hypothesis, so… it’s smoother if you consult with her. If I were to respond, it would be a problem.”

”I don’t know how she’ll move, but… I think it’s big just to have her listen to us.”

And then, on Wednesday. I met with Isabella in the police headquarters’ reception room. It was a beautiful but small room. It couldn’t compare to the reception room of a noble’s mansion.

Police officers have meetings with people in rooms like this, huh… well, I won’t say it’s luxurious. Isabella poured me a cup of coffee.

”It’s been a while, Alba. If there’s something to discuss, I use this kind of place… sorry about that.”

”No need to apologize, thank you for going out of your way.”

I started with a humble attitude and got to the main topic. Since this was already the nth explanation, I was used to it. Isabella listened quietly to my story, but her expression changed to shock midway through.

 ”…Sword did that?”

 ”I mean, it’s not Sword, but Dupont…”

I omitted the part about White Lily Cafe. This part is just a rough outline. Even if it were to leak, Isabella wouldn’t have a reason to blame me for frequenting the brōtḥel.

As for Lana and Claire, it was as if the black-coated man (me) had intervened, and my frequenting the brōtḥel hadn’t been exposed to my troublesome acquaintances.

”Did you know that something like this was happening in the great forest?”

”The headquarters hasn’t come yet… If we investigate, we’ll soon find out if the disease is spreading or not.”

Isabella stared at my face intently.

”…He was involved in this behind the scenes, huh?”

 ”Was it bad?”

”No, it’s fine. It’s good that you came to me first… Before Sword could manipulate me, I could make a fair judgment.”

”I’m hoping for that. For the sake of the people in the Great Forest too.”

”To grasp the current situation, we need to send people to the Great Forest. And Dupont’s involvement… If I take command, it’ll go smoothly.”

”Good, Miss Isabella is on board.”

At that, Isabella made a difficult face.

”You knew that Sword and I weren’t getting along, and you took advantage of that, didn’t you? That’s right, there’s no reason for me to cover for Sword.”

That was true. Isabella was the one who had properly handled the incident on our day off. She wouldn’t let the incident with Sword slide.

”If my hypothesis was wrong, I apologize… But if this is the truth, I hope for a fair judgment and compensation.”

”Understood. Your hope is a just one. Let’s move quickly.”

And so, I officially cooperated in creating various documents. Since it’s a serious incident, Isabella’s elite team will be investigating for a while.

”We’ll work with the Count Almira family to uncover the whole truth. There’s also the matter of Moon Moss’s ecology, but the lead leak is a serious crime…”

At that, Isabella looked down at the documents.

”Do you know about the gossip articles about Dupont?”

”No? I just read regular newspapers…”

”Then, this is just my own business. There are various financial suspicions about Dupont. Falsifying accounts and misusing raw materials… I’ve heard all sorts of things.”

 ”Haha, is that so…”

”They haven’t been legally punished for it, though…”

”Were you planning to marry a high-ranking executive of such a company?”

”…I wouldn’t be thrilled about it either.”

Clearly dissatisfied, Isabella. Well, that’s how it is. Creating the documents took longer than I thought, and we only finished at night. In total, we spent around 4 hours on it.

”Thanks for your cooperation. This case is now officially mine to handle.”

 ”Thank you.”

It was already completely dark outside. I was pretty tired, but if this leads to progress in the case, it’s worth it.

”Well, it’s already nighttime. Alba, do you have some time to spare now?”

 ”…I do, but?”

”Hmm… there were some suspicious parts to your story. Let’s go eat something outside and discuss it further.”

When she looked at me with a piercing gaze, it was hard to refuse. Lana or Claire, or even Wollek, couldn’t compare to Isabella’s keenness. Well, the only thing I really had to hide was my true identity, but as long as I didn’t reveal that, I’d be fine.

 ”You won’t refuse, will you?”

 ”No, I won’t.”

I nodded, and followed Isabella as she left the office.
