Fake Survivor 15

Chapter 15

Inside the dungeon was a cave that could be seen from the outside, and as I proceeded, the passageway about 4 to 5 meters ( 13 to 16 feet) in length and width gradually darkened.

That’s probably why people were selling torches near the entrance.

Even some newbie-looking groups I’d see from time to time had at least one person lighting the surroundings with a torch.

It seemed that a bonfire would be lit at the entrance when it got dark, but since it was still bright, there wasn’t one, and instead, I got fire from a skewer shop next to the torch-selling street vendor.

So, if one is the type who’s hesitant to spend money… they’d end up buying a torch just to get some fire.

The torch vendor might have some connection, but they said the price was the same as other shops.

If I wanted to confirm, I could easily ask other shops, and it seemed like they just secured a good spot.

As a result, I, who had bought some salt-grilled orc meat for 500 Oar, was proceeding with a torch in hand.

I thought about using a battery-powered lantern, but… if they misunderstood it as a magic item, they might think I have money, and that could lead to trouble.

In the shallow areas, the active adventurers might not be that strong, but since I was alone, there was a good chance they might try to intimidate or rob me.

Well… in that case, it wouldn’t end with just that, and they might even try to silence me.

Of course, I’d resist, and with the power of Magic Armor, I’d probably be able to handle it to some extent, but… if I could avoid it, I’d rather avoid it.

So, I was wandering around the dungeon while looking at the map… or rather, I didn’t have a map, and I had arrived at the next area.

No, the monsters were in a state of being ready to pounce, and if I approached carelessly, I’d be suspected of trying to steal their prey.

I hadn’t seen any ordinary goblins, but I did encounter one that suddenly appeared… and it wasn’t much different from the ones living in the forest I was in.

Since I can sense the location of the magic stones, I can of course detect the location of monsters, and also the location of humans who possess magic stones.

Since the exit is fixed, everyone will be heading in the same direction, so if I follow them, I won’t get lost.

With that in mind, I wandered around an area that seemed like the 2nd district.

In this district, aside from goblins, there are also wolf-like monsters called demon wolves that inhabit the area.

What a straightforward name. It’s easy to understand, which is nice.

In the deeper districts, the environment is different, and it seems like torches aren’t needed, but… in the dark caves where magic stones are still needed, the wolves’ sense of smell will be effective, and if they howl, it’ll echo and wolves from far away might come.

Ah, thanks to the domain’s specifications, it’s basically safe.

As I was thinking about this, I erased my presence to avoid being noticed and observed a team of 4.

 ”Howl!!”

 *Gulp…*

 ”Ugh!”

 ”Whoa!”

 *Slash*

 ”Ha!”

 *Thud*

They were fighting in a narrow cave, utilizing the limited space to their advantage. One man was using a shield to block the demon wolves’ attacks, while the other men focused on attacking.

However… the enemy’s numbers were slightly greater, and at this rate, they would be overwhelmed.

As I thought this, the man playing the shield role raised his voice.

 ”Kokol! Not yet?”

The one who responded was the only female in the team, a magician-like person.

Compared to the men who were equipped with metal armor, she was relatively lightly armored, carrying a wooden staff, wearing a robe, leather boots, and a small leather pouch on her belt.

But, including the color and material, she resembles the getup of the clergy like Seria, whom I met before entering the dungeon.

Maybe, is magician a trend now?

 And then, she takes action.

 ”Wait! * * * * *…* * * * *! .”

 *Pluck!*

She pulls out a small vial from her bag, opens the stopper, and sticks her finger from her non-staff hand into it, saying something, and then thrusts out her staff.

Then… a water orb about 1 meter in diameter appears at the tip of the wand, flying over the heads of the men in front and splashing down.

 *Splash!*

 ”Bau!?”

 *Bulbulbulbulbul!*

 ”Now!”

As soon as the water orb hits, the demon wolves get soaked, and they start shaking their bodies and trying to shake off the water.

It’s not just water, maybe it’s because they hate getting wet due to their habits or weaknesses.

That’s what’s bothering me, but… taking advantage of this, the adventurers launch a counterattack and defeat all 6 demon wolves.

”…Nothing’s coming out, I guess. Then, let’s just take the magic stones and hides.”

 ”Yeah.”

 ”Ah.”

 ”Yeah.”

The man playing the tank role says so, and the other 3 respond and start working.

There may be cases where magic items or special spoils appear.

After confirming that there’s none, they collect the magic stones and hides of the demon wolves.

Disassembly… I couldn’t do it since I only collected magic stones. I didn’t need to, either.

I was watching to learn, but they only skinned the demon wolves, so it wasn’t very helpful.

As long as the procedure is correct, it seems okay.

After finishing their work, the two attackers carry the spoils-filled leather bags.

The tank man and the magician woman don’t carry any… probably because they need to respond quickly to enemy encounters and for physical reasons.

Well, I’ve got my luggage, so there isn’t a huge difference… but that difference might greatly affect the outcome, I suppose.

As they were about to resume their journey, a female magician reported to them.

”The catalyst for water magic is running low, and considering our water rations, we can’t use it anymore.”

 ”What about other magic?”

”There’s a bit of catalyst for fire magic, but if we want to use it with decent power, it’s only good for one shot.”

”Well, that’s just how it is. Catalysts for magic other than water are expensive, after all…”

”Water catalysts are pricey too, though. So, what do we do?”

”Let’s try to earn some money without forcing ourselves near the first district. Our luggage is increasing in value, anyway.”

The leader-like shield bearer guy seems cautious.

No one has questioned his strategy so far, and they headed towards the first district.

 Magic catalysts are expensive, huh.

Back when I was living in the forest, I encountered a goblin using fire magic, and it left the red stone it had behind… if that’s the case, I can exchange it for cash when I need to.

After confirming that, I left the area, lit a fire with my lighter in a secluded spot, and resumed hunting.

* * *

About 5 hours after entering the dungeon, I…

 ”Gii!”

 ”Howl!”

Before entering the city streets, I used the wire from my Magic Armor to take down a group of goblins and demon wolves.

Since I’ve never faced more than 5 men at a time, I didn’t struggle at all against the group of over 10 before entering the town.

I wonder if that team I saw, with 6 members, was joined by reinforcements from outside the area?

So far, I’ve obtained a total of 52 monsters, and my magic stone earnings are quite profitable.

”I hope the guild doesn’t suspect me for not collecting materials…”

At any rate, I knew that the wolf’s skin could be exchanged for money, but since it’s too heavy for one person to carry, I decided to collect only the magic stones.

Today, I’ll just observe and eat an “Imitation” to save money, so I shouldn’t run out of accommodation fees as long as I’m not ripped off.

As I collect magic stones, I think about… the magician from the team that show me combat techniques.

Her defense looks almost 0, which is worrying, but what’s even more concerning is the magic itself.

Just as I heard, I confirmed that she uses catalysts to activate magic, but before that, she says something I couldn’t understand.

The goblin I met in the forest was also saying something when using magic, but maybe I didn’t understand it because it was a goblin.

I can activate some effects through Magic Armor, but since I couldn’t use the red stone that seems like a catalyst, I concluded that I can’t use magic on my own.

So, I haven’t researched magic thoroughly… but if the chant before activating magic is some kind of spell, then maybe I can respond better if I can hear it.

I was concentrating on the “spell-like” thing, but it was unexpected that I couldn’t understand the meaning itself.

I wonder if I can create documents about this at “Imitation”?

Even if I can make them, documents are expensive, so… ah, maybe I’ll ask the Guild’s receptionist about it.

As I thought about this, I noticed that the magic stone’s reaction is indicating that it’s about time to return to the city/street, and people are starting to come and go within my sensing range.

Ah, at this rate… the reception is gonna be crowded.

It doesn’t seem like I can have a long conversation on my own, but it’s not an urgent matter, so it’s fine to do it another time.

So, I decided to pull out of the dungeon before the exit gets crowded.
