Fake Survivor 31

Chapter 31

When I entered the orphanage that Frederica was supporting, it had an atmosphere similar to a small hospital.

It seemed like they kept it clean, but you could still see some signs of age.

 ”This way.”

When I looked at Frederica as she said that, she opened a door next to the reception and called out to someone inside.

Financially, they probably couldn’t afford to have someone at the reception all the time.

 ”Is anyone there?”

Her slightly loud voice seemed to reach someone inside.

 ”Yes!”

 With that reply, footsteps approached.

 *Thud, thud, thud*…

”Ah, welcome, Mrs. Frederica. What brings you here today?”

From the voice, I guessed it was a relatively young woman, but since Frederica was in front of the door, I couldn’t see her yet.

The conversation between Frederica and the other person continued.

”I came to introduce a job.”

 ”Oh, what kind of job?”

”Sorting magic stones. If you do well, you might get to keep doing it.”

”That would be great, but… if it’s magic stones, that means the client is an adventurer, right?”

 ”Yes, that’s right.”

”In that case, will the deadline be okay? If the work is delayed, they scold me, saying it’s because I’m too busy playing with the kids…”

”I wouldn’t introduce a job from someone who says that, you know?”

Suddenly, Frederica turned to me and spoke.

At the same time, she shifted her body to signal the person inside to come out, and following that, the staff member? appeared in front of us.

As I had guessed from her voice, she was a young woman around 20, with long brown hair tied back, and she was quite beautiful.

Well… more than that, my eyes are drawn to her chest, which is way bigger than just “notable.”

I think she probably tightened the waist of her dress for ease of movement, which makes it stand out even more.

Despite that, she looks pretty awkward.

 ”Ah, um, I see you’re together. Uh…”

She probably thought I would be upset about the earlier ‘discussion’ where I mentioned the concern that we might be asked to use kids because of the delay in the deadline.

Normally, it’s natural to feel bad if you’re suspected of something when you didn’t mean any harm.

Well… sometimes the ones who are suspicious have their own reasons to be cautious, so I guess it can’t be helped from the perspective of the one being suspected.

Now, I don’t want my voice to be too well-known, but Iris seems to trust me with this, and if the other person is someone Frederica knows well, it should be fine.

 So…

”Don’t worry about it. I understand that being cautious is for the kids’ sake.”

 ”Y-yes. I apologize.”

Because I spoke in a gentlemanly manner while dressed as “Mose,” the woman seemed somewhat relieved and bowed her head…

My gaze was drawn to her swaying chest, and I realized again that I had no intention of being a gentleman.

My face is hidden by the Magic Armor, but with a size like that, I’m sure I’ve been seen, and I felt like my staring would be noticed, so I looked away… only to see Frederica letting out a light sigh.

”Hah, for now, let’s go talk in the back.”

Saying that, she confidently walked into the back room,

 ”…Ah. P-please, go ahead.”

The staff woman prompted us, and we followed her in.

When I entered the back room, I saw 3 desks placed close together, with several bookshelves lined up against the wall.

It looked like an office, and since one of the desks showed signs of being used, the woman who was currently attending to us must have worked there.

 ”Over here.”

The staff woman opened a door leading to an even deeper room, prompting us to follow Frederica as she led the way inside.

In this room, there was a low table and 2 sofas facing each other, so it seemed to be used as a reception area.

 ”Come on, sit down.”

Following Frederica’s words, I sat down next to Iris, and then the staff woman entered the room a bit later.

It seemed she had brought some water, and after distributing it, she sat down next to the empty spot beside Frederica.

”Um, well… how about we introduce ourselves first?”

At Frederica’s suggestion, the staff woman hurriedly stood up to introduce herself.

”Oh, I’m sorry! I’m Monoka, the representative here! Nice to meet you!”

 *Bounce, sway*

Since she was in a position to receive work, her energetic movements and bowing made her chest noticeably shake.

She must have been wearing something underneath, but since it looked like a short tank top, it probably didn’t hold everything in very well.

Once she sat down, we decided it was our turn to introduce ourselves.

”I’m Mose, and this is Iris.”

Since we planned to do business here in this outfit, I introduced myself as “Mose,” but since Frederica didn’t mention it, it wasn’t a problem.

Frederica then began to talk about the main topic.

”Well, about the sorting of the magic stones… Mose, show her the amount of magic stones.”

 ”Okay.”

At her words, I pulled my bag closer and took out a pouch that was almost the same size as the bag itself.

It was too big to put on the table, so I placed it beside it and offered it to Ms. Monoka.

”Um… does this mean it’s mixed with other loot?”

From the size, Ms. Monoka asked if it included other loot along with the magic stones, and separating them was part of the job… but Frederica answered that.

”That’s all magic stones. Take a look inside.”

 ”Huh? …Um, is that alright?”

Ms. Monoka looked puzzled at Frederica’s explanation.

When she asked if she could look inside, I nodded in response, and as she looked into the pouch, Ms. Monoka froze.

 ”…”

”See, there are a lot, right? Even if we take a smaller fee than the guild, with this much, it should be enough to earn.”

 ”That may be true, but…”

 ”Hm? Is there a problem?”

Frederica asked, and Ms. Monoka replied with a hesitant expression.

”To put it simply, it’s a deadline issue… If I’m just responsible for the ‘compensation’, that’s fine, but if you want a smaller one…”

Ah, she mentioned something like that at the beginning.

It seems Ms. Monoka is wary because there have been cases in the past where they requested children from here in some ‘form’.

Of course, I have no such interests, so I let her know.

”No, it’s fine. I can’t see them that way unless they’re a certain size.”

 ”Y-yeah…”

Ms. Monoka seemed somewhat relieved by my response, but then Frederica had to chime in with something unnecessary.

”Yeah, he has been peeking at your ‘collection’ from time to time, and I’m sure he has been looking there every time you shake it.”

 ”Huh!?”

As Frederica pointed to her chest, Ms. Monoka, thinking that I had been looking at her chest, tried to cover it with her hand… only to lower it.

”Well, it’s quite noticeable, so it’s not surprising if people look. It’s just… usual.”

Ms. Monoka replied with a wry smile, but it was obvious that this constant attention was a source of stress for her.

As an observer, my eyes were drawn to the unnatural movements of her chest, but the fact that I continued to stare was undoubtedly due to sexual attraction.

I reflected that I should try not to stare unless she was actively seeking attention, but I also had something to say to Frederica.

”Hey, don’t say unnecessary things. It’ll make it harder for me to ask for your help with work.”

”I’m just trying to help her meet the deadlines. A little flexibility goes a long way, and I’m sure she won’t mind if you’re a bit more relaxed about it, right?”

Wait, was she trying to make me feel guilty about Ms. Monoka’s situation so that I’d be more lenient with deadlines?

Ms. Monoka, noticing Frederica’s gaze, seemed to realize what was going on and nodded in agreement.

”Y-Yes! As long as the deadline isn’t too unreasonable, I won’t mind if you take a look!”

 *Sway, sway*…

My eyes were drawn to her chest as she swayed it with her hands, but since she was doing it voluntarily, I couldn’t be blamed for continuing to stare.

However, if she thought that this was a concession on my part regarding the deadline, she might try the same tactic in future negotiations.

I didn’t want her to slack off on her work, so I proposed an idea regarding the deadline.

 ”No, I won’t set a deadline.”

”You won’t set a deadline? So, it’s whenever?”

 Frederica asked, and I replied:

”It’s not whenever, but I’ll pay you according to the amount you’ve completed by the day I come to pick it up. That way, even if the work is delayed, I won’t demand anything extra.”

”Oh, so he’ll pay for the ripe ones. He doesn’t mind the lack of a deadline, but what do you think, Ms. Monoka?”

Ms. Monoka, concerned about my mood, cautiously replied:

”It’s reassuring for us to work without a deadline, but if we’re only paid for the completed work, could we have someone from the guild appraise it and show us the evaluation?”

”There’s a possibility of deception there. What do you think about that?”

”Then, someone from here can come and appraise it. You can appraise it and confirm it on the spot.”

 ”…” “…”

The two of them exchanged glances and seemed to relax a little.

 Frederica then continued the discussion.

”Okay, so we’re agreed on the payment confirmation. What about the payment schedule?”

”I intend to pay on the same day as the appraisal.”

 ”Oh, is that okay?”

”It’s fine. It’s just for room and board, meals, and things to use in the dungeon.”

”Hmm… So, that settles this matter. I’ll leave the distribution of the reward here to you, Ms. Monoka.”

”Oh, yes. I’ll do my best! Please take care of me!”

 *Swish, pat*!

 *Jiggle, sway*…

Ms. Monoka stood up and bowed again, but this time, she emphasized her chest, which was slightly pushed together from the sides, for longer than before, perhaps as a service.
