Volume 3 Chapter 13, Part 2 Probe

And he told me that after our departure, the Sistemador gate beneath the Royal Palace exploded.

A joint team from the Empire and the Kingdom of Zerlant then began working on capturing and stabilizing a new gate.

Melon’s newly developed rechargeable batteries were instrumental in providing the energy for this operation.

They managed to stabilize the gate on the other side, but Stanford jumped through before it was fully secured.

He emerged here, but I suspect the gate on this side was probably not stabilized.

 Oh, I see.

 So that’s what happened.

 But Melon, you did it!

As I was lost in my thoughts, Ms. Claudel shouted from beside me.

”What were you thinking?! If you had waited until this side’s gate was stabilized, there wouldn’t have been any issues!”

She was quite upset, but it was too late now.

He himself says it’s none of his concern…

”Do you think this side’s gate has disappeared?” I asked Dr. Mathius.

”I’m not sure. There haven’t been any reports of its discovery so far, but according to Stanford, it might have opened slightly above ground. If that’s the case, it could be a blind spot in the search. Let’s request a more thorough search based on his testimony. But what will we do if we find the gate?” Dr. Mathius looked at Sheena with concern.

”Oh… So, the other side is stabilized, right? If so, they should be maintaining that state. It’s not a dad joke… Oh, if only we had a probe, we might be able to locate the coordinates on the other side. Hey, Stanford, did you bring anything from there besides your lover’s ashes?”

”Yes, I did. I left my backpack in the snow because it was a hindrance, but it had a mana sensor crafted from Silvergrass inside.”

”What?! Isn’t that the thing you attach to the tip of a probe?”

”But… it won’t work in this world without mana.”

”Oh my god!” Sheena exclaimed in English.

”But… there might still be a chance. Mathius, please search for Stanford’s backpack! It might be more important than the gate itself.”

Sheena pleaded, and Mathius, with a nod of understanding, instructed the nearby soldier to prioritize the search for the backpack.

After that, we had a meal together and engaged in various conversations.

So, he went to Tokura Village.

Yeah, and it seems like the fixed gate is located there.

And that human girl who was with Melon… that must be Karin, right?

 What’s she up to??

As long as she’s safe, that’s good enough.

And that tough-looking Dark Elf… that’s probably Ms. Sharlin.

And going all the way to Sistemador with Sir Tethyrkan… just knowing that they were there.

The people from that world were desperately trying to get the gate working again…

While listening to this story, Ms. Claudel seemed to be overcome with emotion and started to cry halfway through.

Sheena also seemed happy to learn that her older sister had been trying hard to help her.

”So… that’s what we’ve been talking about. I guess I’ll be released then.”

 Stanford said to Mathius.

”Of course I will. But… could I ask for a little more cooperation? You specialized in predicting naturally occurring gates, didn’t you? Just a little longer, could you use that skill for us? For the sake of preventing future misfortunes like what happened to you and Dr. Moore…”

”…I won’t help that far. No, I’ll do that. I don’t have any guarantee that the gate I went through still exists, and if that’s the case, there’s no guarantee Yuuta can return there. I’ll do this for his sake. Well, we have supercomputers here, not just calculators, after all.”

And a few days later, I received a long-awaited message.

 Stanford backpack has been discovered!

However, the gate that was supposed to be nearby had no shadow or shape, including the sky above, so both Sheena and Stanford said that it had probably disappeared.

”Uhh. There’s no doubt about it. A mana sensor attached to the tip of the probe! But, what should I do?”

”My role was to search for the other side of the Gate after it was fixed. This sensor is fragile, so I kept it separate and carried it myself… but it’s useless on its own, right?”

As Sheena and Stanford scratched their heads at Stanford’s words, Ms. Claudel spoke up.

”This runs on mana, doesn’t it? But there’s no mana here… and I can’t use any magic either!”

 ”Yeah, that’s right… magic… mana… Ah-ha! I’ve got it! Claudel, would you mind… sacrificing yourself for us?”

”Huh?! What are you suddenly suggesting, you cold-blooded creature!” Ms. Claudel exclaimed.

”Oh, sorry, you don’t have to die… I mean, I’m not cold-blooded. Anyway, I was thinking, what if we use you as a magic catalyst and channel some form of energy through this sensor? I’m not great at handling magic power, to be honest.”

”Huh?” Ms. Claudel was equally confused.

”So, you mean like what Melon did, converting electricity into mana or something like that?” I explained, and Sheena responded.

”Exactly! Electricity is abundant here, so if we do it right, we might even be able to blow up the other Gate!” Sheena exclaimed excitedly.

”No, no, let’s not blow it up. But if there’s a chance, we have to try it!”

”Yeah, we should. We don’t know how much time we have until we find the next Gate, but we have to give it a shot… At the very least, if we can figure out the coordinates of the fixed Gate over there, we can set the tag and jump into a naturally occurring Gate! It’s a gamble, though.”

”No, Stanford is still working on predicting Gate occurrences, so let’s go with that plan.”

Dr. Mathius was also intrigued by the idea of converting electricity to mana and offered his full support.

 Alright!

 There’s a glimmer of hope!

 Wait for me.

 Ms. Akari. Karin.
