The story begins when the village head suddenly comes to my house, shouting for my mom’s help.
”Mrs. Cartwood, it’s bad!!”
”Eeek!”
”Oh, good morning, Mr. Russell. What’s wrong?”
The village head, covered in sweat and looking really panicked, keeps talking without caring about the peaceful breakfast my mom, Rumi, Nana, and I are having.
…Nana was really surprised.
”I just got a report that a huge swarm of monsters is coming to this village. Can you and Mr. Cartwood do something about it?”
”A swarm of monsters, huh… I’m sorry, but my husband Izana is exploring the Somirkas dungeon right now, so he isn’t here.”
”…Ms. Emma, it’s impossible for you to protect this village alone, right?”
”I can do it.”
”…R-Really!?”
”Yes, I will create a barrier around the entire village. Izana will be back in 2 or 3 days, so as long as we can hold out until then, we should be fine. If you’re worried, you can evacuate to Somirkas before I set up the barrier.”
”Got it! I’ll tell the villagers! Sorry for interrupting your meal. Excuse me!”
The village head hurriedly left my house.
He must be going to inform the villagers.
”…Phew. This is going to be a hassle.”
I activate my newly learned job skill, ‘Thought Sharing.’
This skill allows me to communicate telepathically with anyone who has a favorability of 60 or higher.
This time, I set Rumi as the target.
(…Rumi, can you hear my voice?)
”──Aaah!”
(Wh-what is this…? Rob’s voice is in my head…!?)
(Sorry for surprising you. I tried out a new skill. Now I can talk in your head.)
I regretted not telling her before using it a bit.
I continued talking to Rumi in my mind.
(Wow… it’s strange, but I’m really happy! It feels like we’re together, and I can feel Rob’s voice so close!)
(That’s great. …Rumi, how about we go defeat the group of monsters coming here?)
(…Just the two of us, me and Rob? …Hmm, I think it’s better not to do anything dangerous, right?)

Rumi and I quickly finished our meal, took the tent, dried meat, some bread and vegetables from this house, Rumi’s pot and dishes, and the Magic Power recovery potion my mom gave me before leaving the village. We set up the tent near a river a little off the road to Somirkas.
”Alright, I’ll hide this with earth magic, and we’re ready. Let’s wipe out those monsters!”
”Y-yeah!”

Rumi and I stood just outside the barrier my mom set up around Grove Village, waiting for the monsters.
I activated Magic Detection.
…As the village head said, the first wave of monsters is coming to our Grove village soon.
There are no flying monsters approaching from the sky.
It’s a really convenient situation.
The stampede starts with a bunch of weak monsters, and gradually stronger ones will come.
Right now, it would be impossible for us to defeat them all, but I think we should try our best.
”Combat is about to start. Rumi, are you ready?”
”Yeah. I’m good! I’m not scared!”
The first wave of monsters includes Fluffy Slim, Peepee Geek, and Nyan Nyan Golem.
They are the weakest monsters from ‘Princess Rave,’ even weaker than goblins and slimes.
…Rumi’s eyes started to sparkle.
”Th-they’re so cute! …Rob, can I take one home?”
”…No. Only people with jobs that can build trust with monsters can keep them.”
”Aw, that’s too bad.”
”Alright, let’s get started. Since these monsters are weak to fire, Rumi, you attack with ‘Blaze Ball,’ and I’ll use area fire magic.”
”Got it! …Sorry, cute monsters!”
I lifted Rumi onto my back and flew high into the air.
Then the battle with the monsters began.
”Rob, I’m aiming for the big group! ‘Blaze Ball!’.”
”I’m going to make sure I hit them all, ‘Blaze Burst!’”
The first wave of monsters was taken down one after another by Rumi’s and my magic, and since we finished off most of the nearby monsters, we decided to take a short break.

Rumi and I returned to the tent, filled a pot with water, and started a fire. We added dried meat, vegetables, and seasonings to make soup.
”Wow, that looks delicious!”
”Rumi, can you help me cut the vegetables?”
”Of course! I’m really good at cutting vegetables!”
Rumi starts cutting the vegetables.
Her bright smile makes the tent even brighter.
”After a short break, we’ll go again. Is your Magic Power still okay?”
”Yeah, I’m fine. I took them down easily.”
”Right… But the enemies are getting stronger, so let’s not let our guard down.”
Rumi, always cheerful and smiling, still seems relaxed.
Of course, my Magic Power is fine too.
Thanks to the increased recovery rate of my Magic Power, I should be fully recovered by the time we head back to the battlefield.
The sound of the river and birds chirping can be heard from inside and outside the tent, and a gentle afternoon breeze shakes the tent.
Rumi’s soup is coming together, and a delicious smell starts to fill the air.
Her innocent smile and the warm atmosphere seem to heal both of our hearts.
After a short break, Rumi and I head back into the midst of the monster horde.
