Linkmas V1c3

Volume 1 Chapter 3 The Rite Of Revelation

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 I’m 5 years old now.

In this country, when you turn 5, the priest at the church performs a ceremony called the “Rite of Revelation,” where you receive a job from the gods.

Even if I shout “Status!” like in those isekai stories, I don’t see any windows like I did in my dreams before I was reborn, so my job and skills are still unknown.

If my job turns out to be Link Master, then I’ll just believe this is the world of “Princess Rave.”

Well, at this point, it doesn’t really matter.

This is still a world of swords and magic, and I’m happy being raised by my strong and kind parents, getting stronger every day.

I’m heading from my village, Grove, to the neighboring town, Somirkas, with my dad, Izana, on a shared carriage.

We left the village early in the morning, and if we don’t get attacked by monsters or thieves, we should arrive by noon.

Well, even if we do get attacked, it’s pointless to worry since my dad is with me.

Inside the bumpy carriage, the scenery is filled with fields, forests, and rivers, but there are flowers, plants, and animals here that I’ve never seen in Japan, so I honestly never get bored.

Using my magic sensing ability, which can detect things a few kilometers away, it seems like the monsters are quite far off.

 How boring.

I want to experience a real battle soon, but I haven’t seen any monsters living in this world yet.

Well, as long as my dad is nearby, if monsters do come, I’ll probably just get to watch him fight.

”Dad, if monsters come, can I try using magic on them?”

 I ask just in case.

”Sure, but they probably won’t come. Monsters are sensitive to magic, and when the magic gets stronger, weak monsters tend to stay away,” he replies.

”Does that mean monsters don’t come because Dad is nearby?”

(As expected of an S-rank adventurer.)

”…That’s half true. It’s because Rob and I are here,”

Dad said, looking a bit exasperated.

”I want to try some real combat training, but it seems like the monsters around here aren’t good enough.”

Recently, I’ve been practicing magic with Mom Emma and sword fighting with Dad, but I can’t keep up at all, so I don’t really know how strong I’ve become.

”That’s right. It seems you’ve mastered mana cloak too, so how about going to a dungeon with me next time?”

 Dad asked with a smile.

…Isn’t it a bit too early to make a 5-year-old fight monsters?

”I’m still 5 years old, is that okay?”

”Only if Emma gives her permission. Well, even if we get permission and go to the dungeon, at first, you’ll just watch me fight from behind, and actual combat will come after you get used to seeing monsters.”

(I see, they wouldn’t just throw me into a fight right away.)

While chatting about random things and enjoying the view outside, we finally arrived at Somirkas.

It was just before noon as planned.

 I was really hungry.

The town of Somirkas was surrounded by ten-meter-high (≈ 32.8-foot-high) walls, and there were guards standing at the gate, checking the belongings of people passing through

Those with identification could enter the town without having their things checked.

We got off the shared carriage in front of the gate and lined up in a long line.

The carriage went into the town.

”There are so many people here.”

”This town is a dungeon city. The dungeon is in the center of the town. Most of the people in line are adventurers and merchants.”

Dungeon City Somirkas, it was also in ‘Princess Rave.’

 Hmm.

Before I learn my job in the Rite of Revelation, it seems I’ve confirmed that this is a world from an eroge.

If that’s the case, does that mean my job is Link Master?

After waiting for a while, it was finally our turn.

”Welcome to Somirkas. What brings you here?”

The guard said with a smile.

”This kid just turned 5 today. We came for the Rite of Revelation.”

Dad replied while placing his hand on my head.

”I see, if it’s Sir Izana’s child, we can expect great things. Please, go right in.”

We were smoothly allowed through the gate.

”Huh? Dad, don’t we need to show ID?”

”Oh, I come here often, and since I became a B-rank adventurer, I can get in without showing my face unless there are new guards.”

 As expected of Dad Izana.

…Adventurers and dungeons, this is going to be so much fun.

The town is full of life.

The first thing that caught my eye was the street vendors.

The delicious smells made me look over.

 Oh right, I was hungry.

”Dad, I’m hungry. Can we have lunch?”

”Sure. Is there anything you want to eat?”

 ”Um… I’d like something I haven’t had at home.”

At home, we usually have hard bread, grilled monster meat, fresh vegetables from the village, and simple soup made with monster meat and vegetables.

”If that’s the case, I have something good. Curry. It’s a specialty of this dungeon city. When you come to this town, you should definitely try this!”

As expected of an eroge world.

Curry, one of Japan’s classic dishes, is here.

”Yeah, I want to try it! What kind of dish is it?”

”At first, you might be surprised by the appearance, but I think the smell is really tempting. Shall we go to a curry specialty restaurant?”

* * *

An hour later, my dad and I, satisfied after finishing the curry, walk towards the church.

”It was delicious, but my tongue is a bit tingling.”

”That’s because you ordered it spicy like me. Next time, you should go for medium spice.”

There are various shops in the town.

An inn, a tavern, a restaurant, a pharmacy, a magic tool shop, a weapon shop, an armor shop, and the adventurer’s guild.

There are probably a sl*ve shop, a gambling house, and an auction house somewhere in this town too.

After walking for a while, we finally arrive at the church at the edge of the town.

I see a few kids around my age.

They must be here for the same Rite of Revelation as me.

”I’ll wait outside, so go on in. I think it’ll be fine, but make sure to be polite to the priest.”

 ”Okay, I’ll go now!”

Inside, it’s spacious, with a high ceiling, stained glass, long benches, and a statue that looks like a goddess.

In front of the priest, the children are standing in a line.

There aren’t many of them, so my turn should be coming up soon.

Hmm, I just need to exchange a few words with the priest and touch the crystal to finish.

”Welcome to Vanessa Church. You have come here for the Rite of Revelation, right?”

”Yes, that’s right. Nice to meet you.”

”Then, please place your hand on this crystal. The goddess Vanessa will mark your hand with a symbol. It will hurt a little, but don’t take your hand away halfway.”

 ”Understood.”

I place my hand on the crystal as instructed.

 …But nothing is happening.

 ”Um, priest, is this correct?”

”Yes, that’s right. …It seems like the more skills one get, the longer it takes, so I think you can expect something good.”

(Oh, my hand is starting to tingle.)

 It’s a strange sight.

A symbol is being engraved on the back of my hand.

Right after the symbol is completed, the window I saw before I was reborn appears in front of me again.

 ”Wow!”

”You can see your status board now, right? From now on, you can check it anytime just by thinking about it.”

 ”That’s amazing. Thank you, Priest!”

”You’re welcome. Please be careful on your way back.”

The status board has various information written on it.

Since it looks like I’ll be staying here for the night, I’ll take my time to look at the status board in the inn.

”I’m back, Dad. I got a job and skills from the goddess!”

”Oh, that’s great! Can you tell me what job and skills you got? In return, I’ll tell you mine.”

”I’ll tell you, but can we change the place? I can’t just tell anyone, right?”

”Sorry. You’re right. Let’s go to the inn where we’re staying tonight.”

I see, the reason Dad never told me about his job and skills, no matter how much I asked, was to use it to get mine.

I’m definitely curious about the status of an S-rank adventurer.

I think I’ll go along with this.

Besides, I had decided to only share my skills with people I trust, except for that one skill.
