The next day, I was introduced to Mr. Izana’s party members, and we were set to go to the dungeon right away.
Mr. Izana’s party name is ‘Saint Guardian.’
They had kept one spot open for Ms. Emma, who would return when Nanna turned ten. I felt a bit relieved when they said it was okay for me to join temporarily.
”Hi, nice to meet you! I’m Rumi! Please take care of me!”
I greeted them loudly, even though I was nervous.
Even though Mr. Izana is the leader, I couldn’t help but worry if they would accept me as a teammate.
One of the party members, Ms. Ami Flora from ‘Saint,’ dashed over to me and hugged me. …Ouch. …Could you be a little gentler, please?
”What is this girl!? She’s too cute!? Izana, did you let her join because you couldn’t resist her cuteness!?”
Ms. Ami’s excited voice echoed around us, and my cheeks turned red. …I had the image that ‘Saint’ members were elegant, but this was way different from what I expected.
”Of course not! …Ami, calm down a bit; Rumi is in pain.”
I felt a little happy that Mr. Izana was looking out for me.
”Ah… s-sorry… I just got carried away by your cuteness…”
Ms. Ami quickly let go of me and stepped back, looking apologetic.
”N-no, it’s okay.”
I replied with a slightly stiff smile, but my heart wouldn’t stop racing.
”This girl is my son’s girlfriend. My son is currently away for some reason. So, I’m just taking care of her in the meantime.”
Mr. Izana’s words made everyone turn to look at me. I felt a bit shy about how I was being seen.
”Wow… is that so? Rob is also ten years old, right? Didn’t you mention something about becoming an adventurer here before?”
Ms. Ami’s words stirred something deep inside me. Thinking about Rob made me feel even lonelier.
”Yeah, that’s true… but it seems like it’s still a bit far off.”
Mr. Izana answered while looking down a little.
”But, going on a trip at ten… does that mean you’re going to send him to the academy in the royal capital?”
Ms. Ami said happily.
The academy… if it were that, I wouldn’t have felt so anxious about it.
”Yeah, I guess that’s a good way to think about it.”
Mr. Izana nodded, looking a bit awkward.
I felt a bit of pain in my chest too.
”Izana. How strong is that girl?”
”Considering she’s ten, her Magic Power and fighting spirit are pretty amazing… hmm, I think she’s already around B-rank, right?”
After watching us closely, 2 members spoke to Mr. Izana.
I heard that these two are a couple. …I want to be like that with Rob too.
The man is Tarian Vibry, a ‘Guard Lancer’ who uses a big shield and spear.
The woman is Meira Vibry, a ‘Crimson Scout’ who uses a short sword and dagger.
”She’s strong. I think she can give Rob, who I believe is a genius, a good fight.”
I was happy to be believed to be as strong as Rob.
”More than Izana’s son, huh… I can’t believe it without seeing it with my own eyes.”
I hear Tarian’s challenging words, and I feel a bit nervous. …But I have to become stronger for when Rob comes back.
From that day on, I desperately pushed myself to remember Rob and not get swallowed by loneliness. I fought beyond my limits and kept training.

A year has passed since then… Rob still hasn’t come back.
My heart is still filled with the feeling of waiting for his return.
With the best party in the country, I’ve been in the Somirkas dungeon, which seems to go on forever. Everyone except me has maxed out their levels, so of course, the bosses and even the weak monsters are defeated using special methods that I never expected. I’ve grown surprisingly strong myself.
Over this past year, I’ve gained a lot of power through battles with my friends, and I’m slowly starting to feel more confident.

Now, I spend 2 nights every week in Nanna’s room at the Cartwood house.
Since Rob disappeared, Nanna seems to be working harder on her magic training, to the point that Ms. Emma is worried.
Every time I see her like that, it makes me think I need to work hard too.
Late at night, while we were lying down in Nanna’s room, she spoke to me.
”…Ms. Rumi, by the way, there’s something I’ve always wanted to ask you. Can I ask it?”
Nanna is asking me.
I wonder what kind of question it will be, feeling a bit anxious but my heart is racing.
”Yeah… you can ask me anything I can answer.”
I smiled and encouraged her to go ahead.
I was getting curious about what she wanted to ask.
”…Why did you, Ms. Rumi, refuse to live here before you turned ten?”
Nanna’s question digs into the pain deep inside my heart.
Just remembering it makes my chest tighten.
”…Ugh… Nanna, you know the answer already, right?”
I asked back, a bit on guard.
”Yes. I know, but I wanted to hear it from you, Ms. Rumi.”
Nanna had a serious look on her face.
It reminded me of the feelings I had buried deep inside.
”…At first, I believed that Papa and Mama might come back, but after a few days, Mr. Izana told me that Papa and Mama had passed away. Even then, I was asked if I wanted to live here, but I refused. …Why? That’s obvious. I wanted to keep Rob all to myself. …If I lived here, Rob would look at other people. He would talk to other people. He would… I’m sorry. You love Rob too, Nanna.”
By honestly sharing my feelings, I felt a little lighter in my heavy heart.
”Yes. I love him. …He has always treated me with a deeper love than Papa and Mama. When I was crying, he stayed by my side until I stopped, casting your healing magic. On my birthday, he made me a stuffed animal of a creature that doesn’t exist in this world. And sometimes, he praised me in a language that doesn’t exist here. …I really, really like him, my brother, who has knowledge from another world.”
Nanna’s words slowly seep into my heart. I realize she has deep feelings for Rob too, and it makes me feel a bit complicated.
”…I-I see.”

Questions swirl in my mind. I have no way of knowing what Rob is feeling. I just can’t help but look forward to his return.
So, even after a year, Rob still hasn’t come back to us, and time just keeps flowing.
As my feelings of waiting grow along with my fears, I continue to dream of the day he will return.
