It has been a year and 8 months since Brother Rob disappeared.
Time seems to pass quickly, but the loneliness deep inside me still wraps around me like a big shadow.
Yesterday, I finally reached the limit of my Magic Power growth.
The hard work I put into training my Magic Power has paid off, and I feel a sense of achievement in my heart.
While my brother achieved this at 9 years old, I reached the same point at 8. Just a little, but I felt proud to have accomplished it faster than my brother.
And today, I was going to ask for the procedure to turn my Magic Power organ into a subspace storage.
Unlike Brother Rob’s time, this surgery would be done without the ‘Pain Nullification’ special ability.
A small worry crossed my mind.
(I’m scared… How will Mama do the surgery?)
As if reading my mind, Mama gently spoke to me.
”Nana, can you take some painkillers just in case? It’s a backup plan for if something goes wrong.”
”Y-yes… gulp… phew.”
The painkiller felt heavy as it got stuck in my throat.
I was so scared of the surgery that I felt like I might cry out loud… but I have to hold it in!
I scolded myself in my heart and gathered my courage.
”Hehe… you don’t have to be that scared… at least, you won’t feel any pain during the procedure.”
Mama said confidently.
”Wait… no pain?”
…Is a surgery without pain really possible?
”That’s right. …Using 2 Space-Time magic at the same time means I’ll have to make delicate hand movements, so the difficulty and the amount of Magic Power used will go up a lot, but… I’ve practiced a few times by today, so you can relax.”
”Two Space-Time magics… Can I ask for details?”
”Sure. From the start to the end of the procedure, I’ll use ‘Time Domination’ from Space-Time magic of the Sixteenth Rank to stop time in areas not involved in the procedure. The procedure only takes about 30 minutes, but it will use about 90 percent of my Magic Power.”
”Space-Time magic… You worked hard on that until before Brother disappeared, right? Once I can create something like a holy attribute, maybe I’ll also study Space-Time magic until I learn ‘Dimensional Creation’.”
As I voiced that thought, a strong dream of adventuring with Brother Rob floated in my mind.

With a mix of excitement and anxiety in my heart, the surgery to turn my Magic Power organ into a special space for Magic Power began.
I surrendered myself to the operation, wishing for it to be a success.

”Phew… It’s done. Good job, Nana. …Is there any pain?”
Hearing my mom’s gentle voice, I felt a wave of relief.
Just as she said, there really was no pain… or rather, since time outside of my Magic Power organ had completely stopped, it felt like it ended in an instant.
”Yeah. …Not painful at all. …Thank you, Mama. …Now I can aim to be a mage who surpasses Brother Rob.”
My eyes sparkled with hope.
”Hehe… So it’s not me, but Rob, huh?”
Mom smiled softly.
”…I think I can’t say I’ll surpass you until I can at least create a holy attribute-like magic… You can create it, right, Mama?”
”Yes, I created this holy attribute-like magic… ‘Rainbow Attribute,’ and I was the first to manifest it.”
Mama continued proudly, and she summoned the magic of the ‘Rainbow Attribute,’ skillfully mixing the 7 attributes in her palm.
A sphere that shone in 7 colors floated up, sparkling like a jewel.
I couldn’t help but be captivated by the power and beauty of the magic.
”Are there others besides you who can create it?”
”I know at least 2 people… the headmaster of the magic academy in the royal capital and my master.”
The magic academy… I’ve heard the uniforms are cute.
I think learning from Mama is more useful than studying at the academy, so I don’t have much interest in anything other than the uniforms.
Still, I couldn’t hide my surprise that there are 2 other people who can do such super difficult things.
”Mama’s master? What kind of person are they?”
”An interesting person. They look like a child because of magic, but… they might be the strongest mage in this world.”
Those words echoed heavily in my heart.
The strongest mage.
If I want to stand beside my brother, that should be my ultimate goal.
”They look like a child… is it a woman?”
”Uh? …Yes, but what’s it to you?”
Mama tilted her head a bit, looking curious.
”No, it’s nothing.”
(I have to make sure not to let my brother meet her; she might be a person to watch out for.)
I secretly thought in my heart.
While new possibilities opened up, I also felt confused.
Emotions crossed each other, and a small spark scattered deep within my heart.

Two years have passed since Brother Rob disappeared.
My training has been going well, and I’ve become able to convert magic power for 4 attributes at the same time.
It feels like I’m increasing the number of simultaneous conversions by about one each year.
Yesterday, Mr. Russell, the village head of Grove village, came to our house to deliver some important news.
The news was that the Demon King’s army from the east had destroyed the Sphere Kingdom where Ms. Alice is.
And today, a family meeting started with papa and Ms. Rumi back from Somirkas.
”Welcome back. I heard about the Sphere Kingdom from Mr. Russell yesterday. …I wanted to wait at home until Rob comes back, but… I can’t just sit around. Izana, which do you think is better if we move, the capital or Somirkas?”
Leaving this house… When my brother comes back, will he see Grove Village completely destroyed by the Demon King’s army?
I really want to stay in this house, but I know they won’t let me.
”Well… Emma and Nana, you should go to the capital. It’s much safer there than Somirkas. …I’ll stay in Somirkas and plan to fight with my friends if the Demon King’s army comes. …Rummie, you should evacuate to the capital too; the enemy is just too dangerous.”
Papa is thinking about Somirkas… If the Demon King’s army gets too close, we won’t have the chance to come home like we do now…
”…Ah, okay. I understand.”
Ms. Rumi seems strange.
She’s usually so lively, but now she looks lost and is fidgeting with a blank stare.
”Huh? …Rummie, what’s wrong? You seem less energetic since we left the dungeon.”
”…I’m sorry. …I need to go to my house for a bit.”
Ms. Rumi went back to my house, which she hasn’t visited at all lately.
It’s strange… I can’t help but feel really concerned.
I think there’s no way Ms. Rumi could be like that without Brother Rob being involved.
”Papa, Mama, I’m worried about Ms. Rumi. Can I go check on her?”
”Ah, okay… If you detect any demon race reactions with ‘Magic Detection,’ come back right away.”
”Got it! I’ll be on my way!”
I followed Ms. Rumi and headed to her house.

When I arrived at Ms. Rumi’s house and peeked inside quietly, I saw that her emotions were filled with joy, anxiety, and confusion.
Even with my special abilities, ‘Emotion Recognition’ and ‘Fountain of Knowledge,’ I couldn’t understand anything else.
She was probably looking at her status, but her eye movements were strange.
It was as if she was trying to follow lines of text flowing in front of her…
After a little while, Ms. Rumi stood up and walked toward me.
She must have noticed I was nearby with ‘Magic Detection.’
”Nanna, I’m sorry… I’m going to see Rob!”
Ms. Rumi is going to Brother Rob?
”…How are you going to get there? If what’s written in my brother’s letter is true… he should be with the goddess right now.”
I asked Ms. Rumi what I was curious about.
”I was just talking to that goddess. If I become the ‘Sword Saint’s Soul,’ she’ll teleport me to the divine realm.”
Her surprising answer echoed in my heart.
’Sword Saint’s Soul’: A soul that resides in the holy sword. It gives the sword holy powers and greatly boosts the owner’s status. Only heroes from another world can communicate with the Sword Saint’s Soul that resides in the holy sword.
When I researched ‘Sword Saint’s Soul’ at the ‘Fountain of Knowledge,’ that’s what I found.
──Does that mean Ms. Rumi will no longer be human?
”Isn’t it better to just wait for Brother Rob to come back?”
”…If I do that, I’ll always be by Rob’s side, but someone else will support him. I want to be the one to support Rob, and I don’t plan to let anyone else do it. Besides, the goddess said that if I really want to become human again, she will let me… So, if that’s the case, I thought I should become one before someone else takes that chance.”
Ms. Rumi seems really determined… I wonder if I can trust the words of a goddess who couldn’t keep her promise for a year, but even if I say that, Ms. Rumi probably won’t change her mind…
”Okay… Please definitely bring back my brother and protect him. …Safe travels, Ms. Rumi.”
”Yeah, I’ll be back! Thank you, Nanna. …I’ll definitely bring Rob back to you!”
And so, that very day, Ms. Rumi went to the divine realm where Brother Rob was.
(It’s always Ms. Rumi getting to do everything; it’s not fair.)
