Volume 1 Chapter 2 Summer Vacation

 I couldn’t find anyone to go to the event with, and before I knew it, school was already on summer break. Plus, because of the events during the Obon holiday, it made it even harder to invite people. You see, during Obon, most people usually go to their grandparents’ house in the countryside or go on family trips.

 In my case, my parents died when I was a kid, so they’re not around anymore. I was taken in by relatives and lived with them until I graduated middle school, but when I entered high school, I started living alone in a cheap apartment near my relatives’ house. So, the Obon holiday didn’t really matter to me.

 The relatives who took me in didn’t have any kids, so it was always quiet. They expected me to act like an adult and think like one too, which made it really stuffy and uncomfortable. I think it was good for both sides that I was able to leave that house.

 Still, this time of year is especially boring. I have no friends to hang out with, and suddenly I have a lot of free time. Those who don’t go on trips usually have packed work shifts, or they have other plans, so for the past few years, I’ve ended up going nowhere by myself, taking random shifts at work, and spending the rest of my time just lounging around in my room.
