Volume 1 Chapter 8 Rejections

(She has connected eyebrows)
While I was being examined, I stared at the face of the female doctor sitting across from me. She might be busy as a working professional, but even a male salesperson would use special scissors and a comb to groom his eyebrows and beard, and at least take care of his skin a little.
The “Risa-sensei” in front of me doesn’t seem to do any of that. She doesn’t even look like she’s wearing makeup. Her thick, messy hair is just tied up in a single ponytail. Maybe she thinks it’s a waste of time and money to spend on such things if she’s doing the bare minimum for her appearance?
She’s not a stunning beauty, but I think she could look dramatically cuter with a little effort. What a waste.
(Should I say something?)
No, that would be meddling. I can tell that this person probably intends to stay single for life, avoiding the hassle of romance.
She has the ability to live alone without any trouble, and even if her hobbies are considered a minority, she has them. She has friends who share the same interests and seems to be living a fulfilling life.
She probably doesn’t feel any inconvenience living with her current appearance.
”It seems like you’re okay. It’s better not to go outside on days like this. If you’re going to an event, you should prepare drinks or frozen items in advance; it can be dangerous otherwise.”
”I’ll do that from now on. I heard that celebrities and foreigners go to these events, so I thought it would be a casual outing, but it was tougher than I expected. I’m sorry for the trouble.”
Having learned from experience that neglecting preparation can lead to bad situations, I decided not to make the same mistake again and reflected on it. I stood up from the sofa and looked around the room, spotting my messenger bag in the corner of the opposite sofa. I picked it up and bowed my head to Risa-sensei, who had helped me.
”Um, is that all your stuff? Please check to make sure everything is there.”
Following Yuki-san’s suggestion, I checked the contents of my bag.
”Oh, yes. Everything is here. Um, if possible, I’d like to thank you for your help.”
”I didn’t do anything special, so you don’t need to thank me. Just be careful on your way home.”
…Did she just gently refuse? I don’t have any ulterior motives. I just really want to express my gratitude.
It’s impossible for me, living in a cheap apartment, to send her anything expensive, but I’m working part-time, so I could manage to get her some food. Did she misunderstand me?
”No, that’s not how it is…”
”If you want to thank me, how about a one-day date with Risa-sensei on your next day off?”
(A date? No way)
Going on a date with a student like me would be awkward since we have no common topics. Ah, but maybe we could still talk about general anime and manga?
But I have no idea where to take a smart woman living in a fancy tower apartment.
”…Huh!? Yuki, what are you saying?”
This time, she clearly and firmly rejected the idea. She looks really uncomfortable. So that’s how it is.
