Dark Noble 93

Chapter 93 The Last Question

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I lay my body on top of Risa, Freya, and Claire, feeling satisfied. I’m sprawled out on the wide bed, feeling a sense of languor. The one in my arms is Claire.

 ”…Huh?”

Her skin, usually as white as porcelain, is now flushed red. Looking into her dreamy eyes, I feel my emotions stirring.

She’s a woman I acquired, separate from Lana. It’s all thanks to her father’s revelations and financial backing.

But… how do I define my relationship with her? It’s not like I can just call her my casual lover, either.

 ”Sir Alba…”

 ”Yeah?”

”As you mentioned earlier, the daughter of the Almira family is your favorite, right?”

 ”……”

She’s sharp, as always. Claire’s got a good head on her shoulders.

”I’m not in a position to make demands on Sir Alba… I understand that much.”

 ”Yeah…”

”But, even if it takes a while, I want to have a child who can inherit the White Lily Cafe someday…”

And then Claire starts caressing my thighs, sending shivers down my spine. What technique is this…?

 ”I’ll think about it.”

Claire knows my true nature well. And yet, we get along just fine. I love smart women, after all. As I stroke Claire’s hair, I drift off to sleep.

I woke up several hours later, in the dead of night. I reluctantly got up and headed back to the mansion, preparing for the next day’s academy.

The next day, Monday, I headed to the academy. Lately, things have been quiet, and the atmosphere has returned to normal.

In the afternoon, I headed to the student council room as usual. Today, there were a few people already there, including Lana, who looked tired with dark circles under her eyes.

”Thanks for yesterday, I haven’t responded yet… but if I hear back from them, I’ll let you know.”

 ”Got it….Are you okay?”

”I’m fine… I was just investigating some things.”

Lana must have been examining my hypothesis. If we’re going to pursue Dupont Corporation, we need to solidify our evidence. But Lana’s gaze, which is fixed on me, is filled with trust and warmth. It’s definitely better than before.

And in the evening, when I returned to the mansion, Belzeda came to report to me.

 ”I found Zarek, young master.”

 ”Really? Good job.”

”I staked out Moon Moss’s shop, and he just happened to show up. He seemed to be on guard against being tailed, but…he’s just an amateur. I also found his house.”

I received a small memo from Belzeda. It contained Zarek’s home address and his suspected real name.

”The chief doctor of Dupont Corporation… Viscount Wollek? Can’t be wrong, right?”

”Yeah, I asked the neighbors at the mansion, and they told me right away.”

Zarek, Wollek…it’s a pretty ordinary name, but it’s not a very convincing alias either. As a doctor, I expected him to be a member of the upper class, but he’s even higher up than I thought.

”The young guys who were tailing him said that the mansion seemed lightly guarded and didn’t seem to be on high alert…”

 ”Hmm…”

Now that I think about it, Wollek’s identity doesn’t mean much. I was able to come up with my own hypothesis, after all.

But the fact that he’s a Dupont Corporation employee and is buying up Moon Moss… what’s the deal with that? I can make some predictions, but that’s not an answer.

 ”Alright, let’s go meet him.”

I stood up and turned around.

”Are you going alone, young master?”

”Yeah, that’s probably for the best…it’ll be more convenient that way.”

I picked up the Midnight Fangs mask. Wollek’s mansion isn’t that far away.

* * *

I blended into the darkness of the night and headed towards Wollek’s mansion. The lower noble-class mansions tend to have fewer people around at night.

The mansion listed on the memo was a modest one. It was a typical Viscount-class mansion. I did some reconnaissance, but there was nothing for me to be on guard against.

On the old, worn-out first-floor terrace, a thin man was reading a book. He wore glasses and had wrinkles between his eyebrows. His face, illuminated by the lamp, looked like that of a serious scholar.

That must be Wollek. I quietly appeared beside him.

 ”Good day, Zarek.”

 ”――! You’re…”

Wollek looked up at me, shocked. But he didn’t shout or run away. He just froze in place, stunned.

”You know that name, which means… you’re Ms. Claire’s assassin, right?”

 ”No, that’s not it.”

 ”Then… who are you…”

”I’ve been chasing the truth. I thought you’d understand that too.”

Wollek’s eyes widened, and his hands trembled at my ‘prediction’.

”You’ve been investigating the Moon Moss contaminated with lead on your own, haven’t you?”

 ”…You knew that much, huh.”

Wollek stood up from the terrace chair and opened the door to the room. The room, illuminated by the moonlight, looked like a laboratory.
