Volume 1 Chapter 4-2 Adventurers’ Guild
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I hurriedly took out a blood-soaked quail head from my leather pouch.
Wow, it smells fishy.
I searched for the quest contract, but it didn’t come out right away, and I started to panic.
After searching for a long time, I found a bloody scrap of paper at the bottom of my pocket.
From now on, I’ll have Ms. Nina hold onto the contract.
”No, that’s fine. It’s a quail hunting quest, right? The reward is 20 gold.”
Mr. Laken tossed the quail head into the trash along with the tattered contract without even looking at it.
Is it okay to treat it like that?
It’s a little sad, isn’t it?
”Also, this was the first quest of the Hero’s Daily Quests. The reward is 1,000 gold.”
Even without me saying anything, Mr. Laken quickly moved on with the paperwork.
He really is a veteran.
The ‘Hero’s Daily Quest No. 1’ is a special quest made to support summoned heroes.
The condition to complete this quest is to finish one quest from the Adventurer’s Guild.
Even if the reward is just 1 gold for a herb gathering quest, you still get an extra 1,000 gold for completing it.
It’s a daily quest that you can do once a day, but I think it’s pretty sweet.
There’s also a No. 2 for the daily quests, but I’ve never completed it.
The condition for No. 2 is to complete 5 quests, which is a bit too much for me in one day.
What I’m aiming for is the ‘Hero’s Unwavering Effort’ series of quests.
The condition is to clear Daily Quest No. 1 for ten consecutive days, and the reward is 10,000 gold.
I want to save up with these two quests and someday get a cheat weapon to dominate in dungeons.
”That’s a total of 1,020 gold. Let me borrow your guild card.”
The guild card is a metal plate about the size of a business card and 3 millimeters thick.
There are a few small holes on the edge that look like terminals.
It’s probably something like a memory card.
Mr. Laken inserted the guild card I handed him into the slot of a laptop.
The laptops in this world are bulky, big, and really heavy.
The keyboard is mechanical, like an old typewriter, making it heavier than it looks.
I have almost the same one, so I know quite a bit about it.
I got it from the king when I was summoned as a hero in this world.
Even though the computer’s performance can’t compare to a smartphone, it’s a rare item in this world, so I had to be careful not to let it get stolen.
If someone steals the laptop given to the hero, it’s punishable by death, but still, many people try to steal it.
”I can just deposit all the rewards, right? I’m completely out of cash at the moment.”
Mr. Laken casually tells me that without any shame.
In this village, worn-out coins that aren’t even worth being called currency are treated as worth one gold each.
That’s the local rule here.
According to Ms. Nina’s appraisal, the value of these coins is about 0.2 to 0.3 gold each.
In other towns, they would just get melted down, but in this village, they are used normally due to the lack of currency.
If I were to receive a payment of 1000 gold in these coins, I would end up with 1000 worthless bits of change worth only 200 gold in other towns.
I really don’t want that.
It would be nice to be paid with emperor silver coins or common gold coins, but apparently, they are out of stock right now.
Well, the deposits recorded on my guild card can normally be withdrawn in larger towns, so it’s not really a problem.
It’s hard to directly compare the prices in this world to those in Japan, but I decided to think of 1 gold as about 10 yen.
I think a reward of only 200 yen for the quail hunt is too low, but when considering that meat sells for about 4000 yen, it feels reasonable.
Arrows sold in the weapon shop cost about 200 gold each, so losing them would wipe out my profits, but luckily, I get an extra 1000 gold from daily quests, so I manage to stay afloat.
By the way, at the village bakery, I can buy a big loaf of bread for just 1 gold.
The size of one loaf is even bigger than a standard loaf of Japanese bread.
It’s not as fluffy as Japanese bread, but when toasted over a fire, it’s actually pretty tasty.
As long as I’m in this village, I don’t have to worry about going hungry.
Bread is very cheap, but meat is pricier than buying it in Japan.
At Mr. Chaa’s shop, they only sell meat in cuts of 100 gold.
It’s an expensive way to sell, but since he’s the only butcher in the village, customers have no choice but to deal with it.
Paying 100 gold for a piece of pork that’s about one steak serving──where do they think they are, high-end black pork?
The meat of the rare brown quail bird is worth much more than pork.
A single bird’s meat can sell for over 4000 gold, it’s a real treasure.
I buy it for 400 gold and sell it for 4000 gold, so I’m making a nice profit.
But, since brown quail meat is too expensive, it barely sells in this village, so Mr. Chaa travels to the next town to sell it.
”Ah, right. Today, I’ll buy the brown quail meat for more than usual.”
Mr. Lakan reminds me, as if he just remembered.
”There’s an urgent request from the guild in the next town. It seems a noble who loves brown quail will be staying here.”
What’s this event?
”By the way, how much more are we talking?”
”Let’s say, double, no, triple the price.”
Triple… that’s 1200 gold.
Mr. Chaa’s guy knew about this event.
I lost about 800 gold, but it’s not that big of a deal.
It’s only natural for a merchant to seek profit.
I really don’t feel regretful about it.
Later on, I heard that the noble who loves brown quail bought one for 3 common coins.
The brown quail that was killed instantly was cherished among gourmet nobles and is considered a top-grade product, worth a fortune.
Three common coins… that’s 30,000 gold.
Speaking of which, the reward I got from the king for being a hero was ten common coins. I wonder if that’s a lot or a little.
