A young man called Iberigo hurriedly came close to Tifi and reached out his hand.
But──
”Eek!”
Tifi let out a small scream and hid behind the guild leader’s back.
”M-Ms. Tifi?”
Iberigo couldn’t hide his confusion.
His eyes showed he didn’t understand what had happened.
”I’m sorry, noble sir.”
The guild leader stood, shielding Tifi, and bowed deeply.
”Tifi was treated badly by bandits this time… She now fears men and is very suspicious of them.”

After saying that, she ran crying through the adventurers’ guild staff entrance.

Iberigo hung his head low, all hurt.
”Young master, let it go. It can’t be helped now.”
”If you care about her, you should leave her alone.”
The guards put hands on his shoulders and spoke gently.
”Ms. Tifi…”
The heartbroken young man was led away by the guards, like a cow being taken away.
We watched everything from a distance.
The plan seems to have worked.

”Now, he should give up on me. Even if he doesn’t, I have an excuse to refuse him, and reasons for his side to oppose this.”
Deep inside the adventurers’ guild, the guild leader’s office.
Tifi said this with a calm face.
Tifi’s plan was to make everyone think she was a woman attacked by bandits, so she could cut off the noble’s marriage proposal.
A woman ruined by bandits can’t marry a noble, that was the idea.
Tifi said she was kidnapped and assaulted by bandits, then saved by a passing magic-user adventurer.
This was the story Tifi created.
She worked with the guild leader to make this story official.
Anyone who was there would know there wasn’t enough time to do anything, but no one would come out just to say that.
Well, maybe if someone was really quick, there might have been enough time.
Anyway, only we know the truth.
The bandits stay silent, and the world has no choice but to believe the story they made up.
So if Tifi was ruined by bandits and then dumped by a noble, it doesn’t matter if I take her.

”So, Lifia, what did you think?”

According to her, Iberigo really did worry about Tifi and was truly sad.
That means he’s not the mastermind who attacked Tifi.

”But the guards were different. They seemed calm and secretly happy about what happened.”
Maybe Iberigo’s guards never liked this marriage in the first place.
Maybe because of the difference in status.
This world has a strict class system, very different from modern Japan.
Tifi is the fancy receptionist at the Adventurer’s Guild, but she’s an orphan.
She’s from the lowest class of commoners.
For noble families who care about status, it makes sense to oppose this marriage.
And if the woman was attacked by bandits, the opposition would be even stronger.
For nobles, that’s a perfect excuse to cancel the marriage.

”But, was that really okay?”
I asked, frowning.

”People will think Tifi was violently attacked. Won’t that hurt your honor?”

”Besides, I have given my purity to Mr. Taro. If he knows that, it’s enough.”
Tifi’s eyes were staring at me intensely.
”I see… thank you.”
I could only reply with a few words, but she smiled happily anyway.
”You two, if you’re going to flirt, can you do it outside?”
The guild master muttered in disbelief.

That night, Lifia and I were hiding near the Baron mansion.
With the darkness of the night and Lifia’s Silence magic, we wouldn’t be found.
We came here for one reason.
To see if Iberigo really gave up on Tifi and if he was planning any revenge against me.
Lifia closed her eyes and activated her detection magic.
As I watched her focused face, she opened her mouth slightly.
”Master…”
”What is it?”
”There are bandits inside the mansion, the same ones from that time.”
